Chuck Todd admits that he does not ask tough questions because if he did he would no longer be able to book certain guests.

During a roundtable discussion with several comedians Meet The Press’s Chuck Todd made excuses for why he lets Republicans get away with saying things that aren’t true. Lewis Black asked Todd how he put up with guests who babble on with their talking points without barking at them, and Todd’s answer revealed why people don’t trust the media.

The Meet The Press host said, “We all sit there, because we all know, the first time we bark is the last time that they do the show. You say something, and sometimes it is last time they will ever come on your show. There is that balance.”

To be fair Todd does not identify Republicans as the people he is unable to "bark" at but it is quite obvious.

Especially since comedian W. Kamau Bell follows that up by saying this:

"Comedy gets to bark. But the weird thing is that Fox News also gets to bark. And I think sometimes the Left, you know the left leaning media, is afraid of barking."

That is so well put, and so absolutely true.

So in other words Fox News gets to tear into politicians (I think all of us remember how disrespectful Bill O'Reilly and Bret Baier were to President Obama when he subjected himself to Fox News interviews.), while more mainstream media types tiptoe around conservative politicians as if they are afraid that they won't like them on Facebook after the show if they dare to ask them a tough question.

And that's why once great shows like MTP are a joke these days. Because they are filled with bullshit softball questions that never challenge the conservative interviewee in any way.

Really? You'd rather have back a host about whom it was once said:

“I suggested we put (Cheney) on Meet the Press which was a tactic we often used. It’s our best format.” (Cathie Martin, Dick Cheney’s communications director; and note she didn’t say Fox News.)

I can't bring myself to watch what's become of MTP. David Gregory dug the grave, and Chuck Todd is pouring the cement. Hey, Chuck, want "balance"? Go to Fox. Want to do some great reporting on timely topics? Take a page from Rachel Maddow or Larry O Donnel.

Does it ever occur to you WHY certain guests won't accept again if you ask them hard questions about the truth?

Never thought I'd say this, but it's past time they pull the plug on this show and just do reruns of Morning Joe. They've got it all, bottled blonde check, egotistical former republican reliving the glory days check, lots and lots of crisp photos of bottled blonde and old school Republican reliving the glory days check. The only time the show's half good is when Mika's on by herself, and discussing headlines in the morning papers.

Mika is too used and abused. I can't watch her for long whether she is alone or not. It is just too f-ing sad to see her with the dummies she allows herself to be photographed with.

If a guest won't come back after being asked tough questions, it doesn't make any sense to even consider asking them to come back. If Chuck gives them valuable air time to spew their talking points and won't even challenge them, they are unworthy guests.

An actual professional would not bother with the idiots. They would just do their own honest work and let it be known why he is not going to be used by those control freaks.

That show is ruined. The sooner it is gone and no like replacement the better.

If ALL the media barked, the politicians would have no choice but to face it or not be heard. And if they don't show, well, tough. We can't bow to their lies just because they threaten to not do a show. That is NOT journalism, that is Hollywood type celebrity ass-kissing.

This is why the demise of MTP is imminent

The press in this country died a long time ago - its demise started when huge corporations in the entertainment and other industries started buying up the media in order to control the message. Its no coincidence that these media corporations are closely aligned with Wallstreet and lobbyists.

Can you imagine what would happen if Chuckie boy got the courage to ask real questions? So the usual idiots wouldn't show up but maybe he could get some real people with real brains who could get past canned talking points and possibly shake things up a bit. What could it hurt? He is just continuing digging the grave that Gregory started.

Sarah Palin could host the show. It would not be that far down from the job Toad is doing. Not her Toad, not her Chuck. There are not coincidences.

MTP sunk to her level and she would at least be able to show some leg and that hideous black cooking top they couldn't pry off her to launder. I bet there are almost 5 old drooling diaper clad dudes on life support that would watch the show.

Better ratings than the Chuck guy will be getting.

As oil prices fall, Alaska governor halts project spending. $3.5 billion budget deficit looming.

Well so much for Palin's Drill baby drill plan. A glut of oil is killing Alaska. LOL!!

Most of us are pretty happy that Gov. Walker is putting these projects on hold for now because the majority were complete boondogles that really don't need to happen. There will be a review process and then decisions will be made whether to continue them or kill them.

Parnell left us with a large budget deficit and Walker is trying to act more realistic. We will have a decrease in revenue as oil prices fall but with a more fiscally conservative Governor at the helm Alaska should be fine even with less revenue.

What I'm trying to understand is just how the lying politicians managed to convince the media that THE POLITICIANS are the ones doing THE MEDIA a favor by doing their self-promotion on their shows?

That's seriously stupid and incompetent. If the MSM would just lock arms and call all the politicians out on their lies, they'd ultimately be left with no choice but to choose between being truthful or promoting their bullshit exclusively on Fox.

This is just another example of why, in some cases, a capitalist market-based approach is ultimately NOT the right way to handle some things and in this case, irreparably damages the people's ability to make reasonable judgements based on facts.

Which, apparently is just the way conservatives like it.

  15. Anonymous11:46 PM

But conservatives ARE treated like that.

Why don't you support the grilling of a president who is sly and deceptive (oreiily, obama)

Isn't that what YOU do daily?

I almost missed your comment and questions 11:46.

Where on the interwebs or airwaves are conservatives called out for the lies they speak? I mean directly, to their faces on a radio, tv show, or podcast?

It doesn't happen and here is my example to prove it - the MSM regularly invites Tony Perkins and his cabal to speak against the Gay Lifestyle (TM pending), equating it with pedophilia or beastiality. They accuse LGBT folks of recruiting to keep their ranks up. Really? Those thoughts are so 1950. And no one who invited Mr Perkins onto their show has called him on his 'facts'.

Where is the justice 11:46? Where is the fair? Where is the balance?

As for what The Gryphen does daily? He isn't interviewing conservatives. He's blogging and giving us his opinion mixed in with a healthy dose of facts. It is why IM is one of my go-to places to find out what is happening.

As for your question - Why don't you support the grilling of a president who is sly and deceptive (oreiily, obama)...

You are really nasty. I watched that interview. O'Reilly was disrespectful to a sitting president and lost whatever respect I had for him that day. He didn't ask pertinent questions but instead hammered over and over points about scandals Faux Newz created on their ownsome. If you can't see the difference then I hope the plank in your eyes falls out soon.

A little disjointed but then I've not had coffee yet. Hope your last Monday of the year is an awesome one Gryphen. See you on the other side.

Maybe Chuck Todd needs to confer with the expert:

"I want to help clean up the state that is so sorry today of journalism. And I have a communications degree." --Sarah Palin, Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, Nov. 22, 2010

Because I'm dealing with a POS stepmom, here is something everyone needs to learn.
from an article "10 rules for dating my ex"

    4. Don’t use social media as your sounding board. If you have a problem with me or with him, please don’t take to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to air your dirty laundry. Doing this tells more about you, then it does me or him. If you have anything to say to me, anything in the world, pick up the phone and call me. I probably won’t answer unless I know your number, so maybe you should text me instead."

Actually People like Sunny have learned this lesson hard, since she's lost friends from constant trashing in the past. Trash talking everyone. And it doesn't help that she lets a few liberal nasties lie

    3. I don’t want him back I promise, so don’t even go there. Don’t give me stink eye when I meet you and don’t ever think for a second that you have something to worry about. Been there, done that and got the door prize. I’ve moved on, so has he. You are the new woman in his life and I will respect that…if you respect me.

    10. If you have read all of these rules and still want to date my ex, Good luck….he’s your problem now! ;)

  22. So what if they won’t come on the show again, Chuckster?

Now someone needs to ask why on earth he would want someone on the show who is going to lie, lie, and lie some more, and spout talking points only, as opposed to engaging in actual discussion?

You might just as well invite a toddler on the show to recite Mary Had a Little Lamb.

What Todd is saying is that the only way people will come on his show is if they are allowed to use it as a news conference with no questions permitted.

    Why would anyone bother watching?

What a lazy, useless waste of a microphone he is.

How about just announcing each week that he invited Senator Bloviator on the show to defend his vote for/against whatever, but the Senator refused, so while we are disappointed that the senator is unable/unwilling to discuss his vote, we will proceed as planned and will discuss his motives and reasoning without him (with panelists from the other side of the aisle). Let’s see how long they refuse to appear on the show.

Chuck Todd, et. al., have it exactly backwards.
Rather than the way they admittedly are, they SHOULD have the attitude: "I will ask you the hard questions and if you don't answer then YOU DON'T GET TO COME BACK ON MY SHOW."

    ReplyDelete
  24. Chuck Todd is a tool. He has no journalist integrity and every once in awhile he slips up and tells the real truth. The public would be best served if he was taken off the air along with Morning Joe. I have a problem with Al Sharpton too but when he comes on, I just change the channel. I don't care for his self serving attitude even though he certainly has a place on the air.
