The Dish Network drops Fox programs after price negotiations fall through. Oh please let this be a trend!

Courtesy of CNET:

Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network were pulled from Dish Network's channel lineup late Saturday after negotiations for a new distribution deal broke down.

Dish, which has for weeks been negotiating a new carriage contract for the 21st Century Fox channels, said the channels were blocked after Fox introduced fee increases for other sports and information channels not part of the original contract. The channels' removal marks the third major blackout to hit Dish subscribers in recent months.

"It's like we're about to close on a house and the realtor is trying to make us buy a new car as well," Warren Schlichting, Dish's senior vice president of programming, said in a statement. "Fox blacked out two of its news channels, using them as leverage to triple rates on sports and entertainment channels that are not in this contract."

Dish said it offered a short-term contract extension to keep the channels in its lineup, but Fox countered that Dish disconnected the channels "in an attempt to intimidate and sway our negotiations."

"It is unfortunate that the millions of Fox News viewers on Dish were used as pawns by their provider," Tim Carry, executive vice president of distribution at Fox News Channel, said in a statement. "Hopefully they will vote with their hard earned money and seek another one of our other valued distributors immediately."

Gee look it's not only the Fox News hosts who are dicks.

I actually believe that this will be worked out and that Dish will put the channels back up.

Which is too bad really, because in my opinion the very epitome of patriotism in this country would be to stop broadcasting a fake news network that has done more to damage this country than the terrorists could ever have even imagined.

  1. Yes, sadly, it probably will be worked out. It's just like every year getting a letter from Blue Cross/Blue Shield saying that our hospital will no longer be a part of their network. Just alot of BS.

I'd rather they drop FOX because they realize how utterly Nazi-esque their programming is.

There are other outlets that provide sports! Keep FOX off of Dish and for that matter ALL TV channels. They are the evil and not factual about anything!

If I thought that Dish was going to leave them out for good, I'd sign up for Dish tomorrow. Fox would die out in a week if their providers went to an a la carte option and you had to purposely pay for Fox.

I would think they'd secure a LOT more subscribers! I would do it too!

I just signed up for Dish. The only Fox programming I watch is the NFL's NFC games, and those are available on Fox's regular channel which is available free over the airwaves without cable or satellite anyway. I get all the other comedy channels so I don't need FNC. Screw a bunch of Fox BS. I don't care to pay more just to laugh at them on their "news" or "business news" channels.

Mine too. My opinion and yours, although it is also a COLD, HARD, FACT that Fox is a network of lies, propaganda, fear mongering and misinformation. So there's that.

Years ago I asked Dish to drop Fox News and give me MSNBC on my basic package. So I don't give a rat's ass about them dropping Fox channels. Oh, and Dish gave me MSNBC last year - Go Rachel Maddow!

The U.S. government isn’t commenting, but it is probably more than a coincidence that after President Obama promised a proportional response to the Sony hacking, North Korea’s internet has been knocked down by an attack.

      From the above article:

Scary, but I agree completely with China:

...The editorial reads, in part, that "any civilized world will oppose hacker attacks or terror threats. But a movie like The Interview, which makes fun of the leader of an enemy of the US, is nothing to be proud of for Hollywood and US society." It continues, "No matter how the US society looks at North Korea and Kim Jong-un, Kim is still the leader of the country. The vicious mocking of Kim is only a result of senseless cultural arrogance."

"The US society stands on the upper stream of global competition of culture. It needs to show some good manners instead of being too aggressive. The American elites should not just speak like gentlemen, but behave like them."

@1:57 That wasn't her sense of humor. She asked Willow for her favorite food, and that was the long, tortured answer. Sarah must add some red and green candy to make it Christmasy.

Her moose chili was wrapped in a printed plastic package, along with a half a dozen others in Sarah's freezer. And about Faye's pie crust-- no vegetable oil, please! It's insulting to Julia Child.

I wish that it was, but it's more of a $$$$ thing, and they will work it out at the last minute. In our area, they pulled the same thing with local CBS, and programs carried on some cable stations plus CBS network programing. They ran terrifying ads that we wouldn't be able to see The Good Wife or David Letterman, but at the zero hour, it got settled. It has to do with sports coverage and paying the necessary fees.

Sony Hack: ‘The Interview’ Facebook, Twitter Accounts Are Deleted

The Facebook and Twitter pages for Sony Pictures Entertainment’s “The Interview” — the satirical film at the center of North Korea’s alleged cyber-attack on the studio — were not accessible as of Saturday morning.

Via email, a Sony rep said that after the studio concluded it was not moving forward with the Christmas Day release date for the movie, “It was also then decided to work towards taking down respective promos and materials promoting the movie and the date in theaters.”

At last count, “The Interview” on Facebook had more than 366,000 followers, while the film’s Twitter account (@TheInterview) had 35,000 followers. The Twitter page for the Sony picture as of 9 a.m. Pacific time Saturday said “@TheInterview hasn’t tweeted yet,” indicating the account is inactive.

Dish pulls this stuff constantly to get free advertisement. When we first moved, they didn't offer msnbc in the basic package, so we chose not to pick them as our provider. Three days later, the phone rings, "We're currently in negotiation with MSNBC blah blah blah". I asked if they had any time frame for the resolution, they said "No" I hung up the phone.
A few days pass, and a Dish truck pulls up with msnbc on the standard line up AND a coupon for six months FREE service PLUS 3 premium channels"
I thanked them and told them we got cable and a much much much better deal after mentioning how we were treated by Dish, now can you please get your truck off my driveway? About a month later, a man shows up at our door and asks for a copy of our contract with Comcast, he's with DISH and can't just "take my word" on it. I made a copy, handed it to him and asked him never to come back, take my name off your list.
A few months later, our neighbor got Dish, and she paid waaaay more than we were last offered. I didn't have the heart to tell her. We're talking about 1200 bucks a year difference.

Regardless of your political ideology..some like MSNBC and some FOX. Vote with your wallet.
    .
A la carte programming is what needs to be on DISH. Then you could pay for what you wanted to watch and not subsidize the other channels whichyou never watch.
    .
I don't have time to watch sports, so why shouldI pay for ESPN? An injured vet may choose not to have Al-Jazeerra. And, so on.
    .
Then the consumer wins...We get to watch what we want and the stations are forced to put on quaity programming (i.e., they take a hint from netflix)

  23. The only Fox entertainment show I watch is Bones.

I don't have Dish. Soon I won't have cable as I'll be switching to internet only with Hulu Plus. (Right after the New Year.)

I'm wondering at what point Fox will use their entertainment shows to bolster up their news network no one wants to watch? Of have they figured that out yet?

I doubt many Dish viewers are kicking up a fuss that they can't get their daily fix of O'Reilly any more.

Now, Bones viewers might be upset, but Hannity? Don't think so.
