The Grand Jury's decision in the Eric Garner case was so terrible that it drained the funny right out of Jon Stewart.

You know we rely on Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert, to find the humor in situations that seem to defy laughter.

However during last night's show Stewart's reaction was really the ONLY reaction that we could have expected him, or anybody, to have in response to this incomprehensible news.

Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Victor White III, Eric Garner,  after awhile it is simply too much to take anymore.

Finally white America has discovered something about itself that minorities have known all along. And they don't like it.

John Stewart stopped being funny a long time ago. The people that stood in line for hours to elect a man who turned out to be a warmongering torture apologist and true friend of Wall Street, who let ACORN perish because some ass clown in a costume doctored a tape while, who spent billions destabilizing the ME while Detroit languished, who described the murder of Eric Garner as an "interaction" with police, who coined the now infamous phrases, "We tortured some folks," and "There is no domestic spy program" find cold comfort for their betrayal in the in ironic moues of establishment left comedians.

Oooooh, somebody's mad because s/he didn't all the toys on his/her Christmas list. Yeah, I wanted more too but I'm also a realist. You can come in with one arm sweep and clear the shit piled on the table but it's then going to be piled on the floor and it still has to be cleaned up.

      Normally I don't go here Anon 7:00. . . . .

But you are another one who can't find a way not to get a hard on about Obama when ANY fucking thing in the world happens. Focus or not on the post. Fucked up crazy tea-party people and you guys are the same people, different corners.

Dead black guy murdered by cops. Focus. THIS IS NOT ABOUT OBAMA. Damn.

This is why the Republicans took the Senate, because whiners like this guy expected the "magic negro" to solve all the problems in the world with a wave of his hand. The rest of us live in the real world and understand the obstacles President Obama has faces at every turn and the amazing things he's accomplished in spite of it.

Agree with what a lot of you wrote...

While the Republicans and Democrats ping pong the social issues back and forth (with no real change in direction, just rhetoric) for the masses to chew on, the corporate run government system keeps chugging along just the same.

@7:00 hmm, so you wanted John McCain for president. You wanted Sarah Palin to be a sick man's heartbeat away from the presidency of the US.

Whining about Pres. Obama sure is fun until you have to defend the alternatives, isn't it?

I have to agree with Anon 8:58 - It's fucktards like you that sit around doing NOTHING because you expected President Obama to magically make everything that's wrong with our world and our nation just go away with a sweep of his "magic wand" - that are responsible for the way things are going. Blame it all on him if that makes you feel better, but assholes like you always expect everyone else to fix all our problems and do all the work while you bitch from the comfort of your computer chair. The way you put every age-old problem in the world at President Obama's feet so you can spread your hopeless, fuck-it-all attitude to others really was masterful. Do you feel better? Fucking moron. Get some help why don't you, you definitely need it.

It boggles the mind. The U.S. is turning into a police state. All the evidence in the world was not going to let that Grand Jury recommend anything but a No Bill. We up here in the GWN disposed of grand juries some time ago. Preliminary hearings, before (and decided by) a judge often are used to determine whether someone should go to trial. So a person educated in the law decides, not a bunch of yahoos. I was wondering last night of all the police procedurals on TV, including and especially Blue Bloods, have had a major influence on the American public, in believing the cops can do no wrong. Just a thought.....

    1. The beliefs that cops can do no wrong or that cops can do no right are both fundamentally flawed. There is no universal black and white constant.

There are some great police officers out there. They are some very corrupt ones.

There is a reason Grand Juries are part of our judicial process.

As they say, Democracy is the worst form of government...except for everything else.

We have some serious problems and I think the most recent incidents have pointed out some of the flaws. What we need to do is assess the problem and develop a plan to fix it. Whether it takes a revision of our legal system or simply accountability and enforcement.

What we don't need is to try every high profile case in the media. I don't want the media controlling the outcome due to what information they decide to release and what they decide to suppress.

If it's a choice between trusting our judicial system or trusting the media, our justice system will win my vote every time.

Oh my Lord. What in the world. Now it looks like we are going backwards concerning human rights for people of color.
An unjustified killing on camera, and still no indictment.
I guess the President's suggestion of putting cameras on all police will not do a bit of good, they still won't get indicted if they kill a black citizen in cold blood.
Camera rolling, police maliciously kills a defenseless surrendered black man, NO INDICTMENT!

I am mad as hell right now!

You forgot john Crawford, Trayvon Martin, and the two kids that committed suicide who were searched, handcuffed behind their backs, yet somehow were able to shoot themselves in the head while the surveillance cameras were unable to capture the event. Let's not forget baby bou bou and the cop who beat the crap out of the old lady on the highway to prevent her from getting injured, and countless others that have outraged us by their outrageous victimization of over the top violence, killing, raping and abuse by cops over the last year. But you'll never hear "Praise Jesus" from the rabid self righteous racist christian right for the godsend of the video phone that makes this all too obvious.

How many times have police killed unjustified, and gotten away with it? Perhaps too many to count. With no camera on them, the cop would say the citizen was resisting arrest, or he tried to take my gun, and the cop is automatically believed. But in actuality the murdered person was not resisting, and was not trying to take the cops gun. This has happened countless times, and countless times the cops have literally gotten away with murder.
Take for instance the Rodney King beat-down. If that citizen had not been filming it from his window, the cops would have said Rodney was resisting arrest and tried to take one of their guns.

I think a big part of the problem is the way they're trained. What we see in all these situations is that the officers immediately escalate the situation. Maintaining authority has become the goal, not reasonable enforcement of law.

Without getting into the debate as to whether the force used on Garner was reasonable or unreasonable, he was resisting arrest.

    3. I think another part is fear.

Police are targets a lot more than they used to be.

It's like teaching. Now teachers are raped, beaten and even shot. Didn't used to be like that when I started teaching.

Police have no idea when or where an attack will occur so they are super cautious and don't take chances. Especially when guns or weapons are involved. I believe that is part of the problem with all of the deaths related to guns that are toys.

People also need to realize that police are not trained to wound. When they use their weapons they shoot to kill. This combined with a number of other conditions is resulting in this perfect storm of deaths.

If you want to pin it down further, blame the gun culture in the U.S. Other countries where police are not armed don't have these problems. Of course, their populations aren't hoarding guns and ammo in their basements with right wing radio egging them on to take down their governments.

A pschologyst friend of mine once told me that, in general, cops have the same profile as serial killers. That could be part of the problem...

Even a child could see that Garner was on the low-end of that scale.

White People Tell Of Crimes They Got Away With

#CrimingWhileWhite caught fire across Twitter on Wednesday night, as white Americans shared stories of crimes they committed without punishment from the law.

The hashtag was a response to a grand jury's decision not to indict New York police officer Daniel Pantaleo for the death of Eric Garner. The white cop placed the black civilian in a choke hold after Garner was allegedly spotted selling loose cigarettes.

Twitter users submitted anecdotes to shed light on the racial double standard in U.S. law enforcement and the advantages that come with being white:

So an unarmed man selling cigarettes constantly harassed by the cops gets grabbed by the cops and put in a chokehold . . . .What human being wouldn't resist. And I'm SICK OF THIS RESISTING SHIT. It is the cop's go to. You know like when they beat people and the momentum of the beating moves the person's body around so they say they were resisting.

The truth is Garner was a big man and the cops were a bunch of fucking scared wooses who decided that they had to physically take down a man------ SELLING CIGARETTES.

Or is this the price of a black man's life---a few cigarettes. Maybe the twelve year old kid deserved to die 'cause he had a toy gun in an open carry state. Maybe the guy walking up the stairs to his girlfriend's apartment deserved to die 'cause he was resisting gravity. Its all bullshit. Even the kid shot in the back seven times in Utah---the cops claimed he was resisting. Yeah--resisting what?

Yet I remember the clip of the white man armed on a city street waving an automatic weapon around threatening people while the cops talked to him and told them they'd give his weapon back to him the next day---which they did. He got to walk away. Armed white man threatening everyone on a city street. . . . .. alive.
Unarmed black man selling cigarettes on a city street---dead. So tell me more about resisting,

It's hard to do comedy to begin with, but the events these past few weeks have made it almost impossible to laugh. The mayor of New York gave an amazing speech that one would hope the most racist among us can understand. I have to admit that I'm tired of reading and hearing about these events, and it's not that I don't care, it just hurts my heart knowing I have my kids and family and all these people are suffering immeasurable grief for no justifiable reason at all. Times like this bring out the best, and unfortunately, the worst in humanity.
My daughter called from school today and she put it in perspective in her own little way.

You know when you're reading "The Diary of Ann Frank" and you come to the page before you know what comes next. That knot in your stomach knowing, and yet you have to turn that page and face reality".
