Couple faces charges after video found showing their baby putting gun in its mouth while they encourage the child to say "pow."

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Indiana couple has been charged with child neglect after cell phone video obtained by authorities recorded the pair telling a one-year-old baby to put a gun in her mouth and instructing her to make sounds like the weapon was firing, police said.

Authorities in Evansville said on Friday they found the video on the phone of Michael Barnes, 19, who was arrested Thursday after he agreed to sell a handgun to an undercover officer through a transaction made on social media, Evansville police said in a statement.

During what police called a “follow up investigation,” officers looking through Barnes’ phone discovered the video of the one-year-old baby putting a gun in her mouth. In the background, two adults, identified as Barnes and the toddler’s mother, Toni Wilson, 22, encouraged the child to play with the weapon, police said.

“Barnes can be heard telling the child to say “pow” on multiple occasions while the child plays with the gun,” police said. “The video also shows the child placing the muzzle of the gun in her mouth. At no point does Barnes try to stop the child from playing with the gun,” the statement said.

I quite literally do not know what to say here.

If you don't mind I think I will just sit here cradling my head in my hands for a little while.

Yes I do think there were horrid parents before internet usage by the average citizen. I actually have proof of that since 4 of my kiddos ( adopted) were horribly abused by their parents.

If they weren't "of color" they wouldn't be arrested...look at the pic of TriG standing on Jill, Jill could of turned and bit or mauled him horribly but not one person said "boo" Its just as bad as this video.

It could have been worse. They could have used the child as a stool.

Saw this yesterday. If the police had the phone, how did it get online? Did the idiot father put it out there before he was arrested? I will repeat: the only 'good ' thing about this is these stupid Republicans are killing their own., or teaching their young to kill themselves. Such a Christian family, huh?

Did you actually say that it is good for children and babies to be shot to death if their parents are Republicans? Or am I misunderstanding you? Because that would be more than a little fucked up.

These two morons also had one-month old twins in the house! Thankfully, all 3 of the kids were taken into emergency protective custody.

Another problem is that the parents will probably get slapped on the wrist, be given parenting classes and then they'll get the kids back.

Gryphen, my head hurts too, just thinking about it.

If we are really in favor of reproductive rights, we can't go around sterilizing people. Even though it seems like a good idea in some cases.

Just like losing your right to own weapons, we should be able to force sterilization. Sorry, we do have steps within our court system to take people's rights away.

I work in a city elementary school and a student in my class told me recently that his cousin is 25 years old and has 13 children.

      25 years old
      13 children

      It took my breath away.

Food Stamps. Anything else you want to add that wasn't mentioned? Seriously. the parents are crazy, yes, but what the hell does food stamps have to do with it? If they qualify, why not? Does the race of the parents have something to do with it? Is there any plausible explanation for "food stamps" to come up other than racial stereotypes, of course.
This sweet mixed race child should suffer hunger pains AND two crazy parents?

I KNOW, right? A CONSERVATIVE REAL AMURKIN would take the gun out and go out and slaughter all the innocent people they could manage, not just let the BABY play with it! Or at least give the baby the assault rifle with hollow points instead of some pussy democrat handgun that could probably only take half their head off!

But seriously, eat a bag of dicks, you sick fuck.

It is not the income level which is the problem. I was a teen mother, and I was a very protective, nurturing parent to my children. I've met middle class and higher economic status parents who were not half as involved as I was in raising my kids.

Sometimes people are simply not meant to be parents (regardless of how much money they have)

Good for you, you are definitely part of the minority within your income class. I wonder if you had a partner that assisted you in supporting your decision to have children as a young person or did you benefit from Governmental benefits? Not that there is anything wrong with that but hopefully you raise these children, born in less than ideal circumstances, to seek higher education and not choose the path that you did.

4:46 pm how judgmental of you to believe that I chose to be poor. I did graduate high school at age 17 with almost a 4.0 gpa. I married young and had two kids before getting a divorce. There wasn't a lot of options where I grew up, I worked as a waitress. After my divorce, I went to college, and to grad school. I graduated at the top 10% of my class. My children are adults now, and the one who went to grad school is barely making it, paying back her school loans on the salary she earns. My other daughter married young, had children and divorced - is making more than $100,000 net a year in her own business (she quit college after 1 year). By the way, she is an excellent parent as well.

I'm with your, Gryph. There's no comment.

There are no words to adequately describe everything that is wrong with this situation. Just a shake of the head, and lots of worrying about the country and what we've come to

You're right, Gryphen, there ARE no words for this video and a comment about food stamps.
I was in Evansville ages ago, it had one main road which circled city hall then went out of town with small streets and dirt roads, I met some of the best and worst people on that trip, but Evansville was mostly good, law abiding people of all races who got along and or left each other alone. My only hope is that the kids get placed in great homes filled with unconditional love and bright futures for all of them. You need a license to drive, fish, hunt, but not even a test to reproduce. I think the day has come to test people before they become parents.
