New study claims that marriages between gay Mormon men and women almost always end in divorce. Shocked! That's what I am, shocked!

Courtesy of The Salt Lake Tribune:

The LDS couples profiled on TLC’s "My Husband Is Not Gay" may find these statistics sobering: Marriages like theirs — same-sex attracted husbands and straight wives — are two to three times more likely to end in divorce than others.

That finding and others come from a newly released in-depth survey of 1,612 self-selected LGBT/same-sex attracted Mormons and former Mormons, thought by researchers to be the largest study ever conducted with this population.

Rather than tapping a random sample, John Dehlin, a doctoral student at Utah State University, and Bill Bradshaw, a retired Brigham Young University professor, with help from Renee Galliher, also of USU, solicited responses via various websites, including pro-Mormon outlets such as North Star International and those more critical such as Dehlin’s own "Mormon Stories" podcast.

The study found that:

• Between 51 percent and 69 percent of mixed-orientation Mormon marriages end in divorce, well above the roughly 25 percent of LDS couples who split up.

• More than 70 percent of LGBT/same-sex attracted Mormons leave the LDS Church.

• 80 percent of respondents reported undergoing efforts to change their sexual orientation — 85 percent of which were religious and private efforts, 31 percent were private efforts only, 40 percent therapist-led and 21 percent group efforts.

• 53 percent rejected their religious identity; 37 percent compartmentalized their sexual and religious identities; 6 percent rejected their LGBT identity; 4 percent integrated the two.

Not exactly an earth shattering study however it confirms what most of us already know as fact, if you are not attracted to women, then you really cannot fake it.

Nor should you be forced to try.

Even if they let you appear on TV for doing so.

There aren't a lot of certainties in life, but if one sex makes your parts tingle and the other doesn't, you really should listen to your tingly parts.

    #science ha!

My dearest friend was gay, as was her gay husband. Both Mormons, They divorced, remained friendly, but the kicker was that, no matter what they'd done on earth, they were eternally tied as man and wife out there on some planet. It made her very sad, and, almost, caused her to leave her Mormon religion. They are both there, up somewhere, in eternal union, when neither wanted to be tied together on earth.

It's called a Celestial Marriage, i.e. they were married in one of the many temples for "time and all eternity." According to Mormon doctrine, being sealed to each other is the only way either can reach the highest levels of heaven.

btw, this sealing can also happen after you're dead. This is the real reason behind the huge push toward collecting world genealogical records. The goal is to posthumously link all the generations together all the way back to Adam and Eve.

Hell, as a straight male I cant fake it if i find a woman unattractive.

It's not that I have anything against women I find physically unattractive. But I don't understand why anyone would want to live with someone the rest of their lives that they weren't attracted to?? And if the shoe was on the other foot, I wouldn't want to live with someone who didn't find me attractive.

For starters, if your partner is unappealing to you, you will always be looking for someone who is appealing. It puts one more strain on a relationship, when relationships are already hard enough.

There HAS to be a basic attraction or its not going to work.

OK this is off topic, but the question is will Sarah call out this cretin and his unbelievably offensive attacks on Trig? Is this the man she is singing praises for? Is this the disgusting dickwad who she panders to? What a horrific human being this man is.

As Ted Nugent-Sarah Palin Special Approaches, Nugent Mocks Those With Mental Disabilities

...An image posted to Facebook by Nugent on January 14 contained other offensive comments, including, "Look at you smiling at your phone, you crayon eating motherfucker," and suggested that a "retard" "lick[ed] windows" or "screw[ed] farm animals":

Nope not off topic at all.

Pretty sure this type of thing happens all over Utah.

Seems like Sarah's okay with people using the word "retard" as long as they are Republicans. Right after she shit a brick because Rahm Emmanual used the word, Rush used "retard" on his show and she made the comment that it was okay for Rush to use the word because he was referring to liberals who are "kooks". Oh, Rahm was referring to a certain segment of liberal as "retards" also. Double standard much, Mrs. Palin?

So, evidently, Mrs. Palin believes that the words retard and kook are synonyms. I guess if we call Trig "kooky" it's okay?.

How about her saying Ellen posted kid stands on dog pictures too and she gets woman or man or whatever of the year? That's a very homophobic statement to make. It was on LA Today show this morning.

Had a secretary that married a "closeted" gay policeman. She figured it out and divorced him after 4 months.

I asked her how she knew he was gay ... her reply was ... they never had regular sex ... only anal ..

    FYI Gryphen:

World Leaders Did Not ‘Lead’ Charlie Hebdo Marches, But Rather Posed For A Private Photo Op

...But alas, it is all about mere optics when it comes to the camera. I was curious when I first saw this image splashed across the TV screens. I thought it very odd that the leaders of many, many important countries would be marching in the middle of the street, on high alert for another attack, with very little security detail there to protect them. Why would so many world leaders be left so vulnerable?

Borzu Daragahi, a Cairo-based Middle East and North Africa correspondent for the Financial Times, posted on Twitter what really went on in regards to the march “led” by the world leaders:

Seems world leaders didn’t “lead” #CharlieHebdo marchers in Paris but conducted photo op on empty, guarded street pic.twitter.com/bhhXgAhqDR

    — Borzou Daragahi (@borzou) January 12, 2015

So, in reality, President Obama didn’t miss a “march.” He missed a photo op. Very different things. The message of unity is not taken away and the meaning is still the same. However, no leaders were marching with protestors. The families, friends, and supporters of the victims of Charlie Hebdo were leading the marches. We cannot forget that.

  8. What this program showcased was the unholy result of all religions' contempt of women, combined with closet case gay men who do not want to be rejected by the same respective religions.

This gay man, and a lot like me, love and respect women too much to repay their own love and respect by pretending to feel something we don't. I know without doubt I'm not in some early grave thanks to the cautionary care and friendship of some very strong and self-possessed women. And those women deserve men who can't resist their looks and their bodies, and when a given one happens upon that luck, this friend is there to cheer.

But because organized religions are about fixed conclusions, they don't care what and how many lives are destroyed in the preservation of implacable dogma.

    2. You are a class act, dvlaries! It makes me feel better just knowing you exist...

As a straight woman who has platonically loved and supported gay men (and vice versa), I am sure there can't be too much love in the world. It doesn't have to lead to bed or to the altar. In fact, it's far better if it doesn't in the case of loving gay/straight best buddies. We all need support, and when it isn't clouded by misplaced maybe-we-shoulda sexual acting-out, both pals benefit with far less hurt along the way.

Just sayin', from one who knows how welcome a hug, a chat, and a freshly squeezed Mimosa can be.

Being forced to live a lie is just sad when there's nothing wrong with sexuality at all. I hate "reality" shows like this one. Sex is simply the highest expression of love between two people, nothing more, nothing less. The gay community has been forced to live a lie for so long and the reality is, all that does is promote depression, self esteem problems and the feeling that there's something "wrong" with a person. Which can lead to substance abuse, eating disorders, cutting and suicide.
Having organized religion or organized crime condemning you to hell if you don't change is the worst thing a group of people can do to one of their own because they keep the lie alive.
I guess I'm lucky, I've had few encounters with mormons, but I'd treat them like I do every other religion. "What? You're saying your God made a mistake when he created homosexuals?" If I don't have time, I just point at them and laugh real hard.

Speaking of Gays, Honey Grahams has a new series of commercials featuring every type of family imaginable. "Divorce just means there's more people to love our children", it cuts away to a male couple walking through a park with a stroller, one parent picks up THE most adorable baby, gives her razzies against the cheek, and she returns the favor and says "omeone need to shabe" while she rubs her face with her hand, the camera pans to an old lady knitting on a park bench grinning from ear to ear. They're all very well done.

I'd beg to differ that sex is simply the highest expression of love between two people. Often, if not the majority of the time, it is just getting your rocks off.
