Courtesy of The New York Times:
Bob McDonnell, the former governor of Virginia who was convicted in September on corruption charges, was sentenced to 24 months in prison on Tuesday in one of the most spectacular falls of a statewide elected official in the history of the commonwealth.
Mr. McDonnell, 60, was given the sentence by Judge James R. Spencer of Federal District Court. He was found guilty of trading favors in return for $177,000 in loans, vacations and gifts from a wealthy family friend who was trying to promote his vitamin supplement business.
At one time this guy was quite literally one of the top choices to run for the GOP nomination.
And now he is just another Republican criminal serving time in prison, who tried to throw his wife under the bus to escape a conviction.
Like I said, douchebag.
Yeah, well, as I understand it, the prosecutor asked for - and should have gotten - SIX years rather than two.
ReplyDeleteBut this is another case of: if you steal a little they put you away, but if you steal enough, you get a slap on the wrist.
Don't ever kid yourself: some people are more equal than others - and you're not one of the select few.
This is SO true, Randall.
DeleteWhen I first started teaching, I had a class of first year students in a seminar that dealt with crime and the law. We did a exercise where students "sentenced" hypothetical criminals. With little exception, students gave much harsher sentences to the poor guy who burgled $500 than the rich guy who embezzled $500,000. Anecdotal and not scientific, but still eye-opening.
Mika on Morning Joe just said Transvaginal Bob will come back because he is such a good man. And she is paid millions for her opinion. Our MSM is worthless.
ReplyDeleteI used to respect Mika, and still watched even though I loathe Scarborough. I now find her equally insufferable and tuned out permanently.
DeleteWhat is with people calling these assholes "good people?"
DeleteMSN moanin joe and meeka is poopy these days. Im looking for a new spot to watch. It is just plain old and boring listening to both of them. Joe the blowhard and Meeka the princess. And both paid well for nothing. Need new gig with substance and character not part of the problem but fresh solution and debate.
DeleteAccording to the local news this morning, his lawyers are busy with his appeal. They've also asked that he remain out of prison while the appeal is going on.
ReplyDeleteNo word yet on when the wife, Mo, will be sentenced. There was a recent article in the Roanoke Times where some of the McDonnell kids squarely blamed their mom's loneliness & mental problems for their dad's downfall. Charming.
These are intelligent, educated people. Just imagine how the Palin family is going to handle things when the world inevitably comes crashing down.
So? How is this different than krispy kreme Chisty cheerleading in Texas? ahhhhhh heck? new congress new year same shit with different evil clowns RUNNING THE SHOW. The bohemian grove clown show. must end.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was all his wife's fault and he was going to address her mental issues as soon as he left office. Riiiiight......
ReplyDeleteI was surprised he only got two years. I think I heard the judge was appointed by Richard Nixon and a former governor of Virginia pleaded for lenience.
ReplyDeleteThe sentencing of his wife is next, in a week and a half, and I hope she gets the maximum penalty hat can be given and that all her jail time is spent in the hot and sweaty prison laundry.
Now he will get the pleasure of being strip and cavity searched. Sorry, not sorry! Sucks to be him.
ReplyDeleteTransvanginl screenenings" were all this convict needed to be pub behind bars for ever and a day -- especially after such ultrasounds are practiced on himself, his daugherts and wife, For him, it wouldn't be "transvaginal" screening But just as deep and invasive, without permission.
ReplyDeleteI told Bob and Mo that white color Ferrari's were bad juju ...they just ignored my warning.
ReplyDeleteThe prosecutors wanted 10 to 12 for McDonnell so he got off easy with only two. If I remember correctly, the charges against Perry could count up to 99 years, so why is that guy acting like he might make another presidential run?
ReplyDeleteThere was a time that Bob Mcdonnell was considered the best Christian white race hope for President
ReplyDeleteIn college, he wrote a paper outlining his vision for rill 'Murica, in which “working women and feminists are 'detrimental' to the family” and argued that the government “should favor married couples over 'cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/29/AR2009082902434.html
He also doesn't want you wanton couples to use contraceptives, and he wrote: that it was "illogical" for a 1972 Supreme Court to legalize the use of contraception by unmarried couples
Yes, ladies, if you are working, or on the pill you are rebelling against Dog's plan for 'Murica and you are not submitting yourself to the bibull.
Rill 'Muricans like $arah Paylin always follow the bibull when submitting to their husband, not working, staying home, never using birth control, and always being a good little wife.
Also known as Governor Ultrasound, he was the one who tried to enforce a medically useless vaginal probe , in case you uppity girls needed an abortion.
Pat Robertson, the senile, superannuated, dementia victim cretin has recently said that "
quote:
Prosecuting Bob McDonnell For Corruption Is 'Destroying This Nation'

Yes, folks, Gov Ultrasound, the stalwart and rilll Conservative Christian paragon of virtue is the guy that started willingly taking bribes and graft from a rich donor, but of course that was all Eric Holder's fault.
During his trial, Gov Ultrasound showed his real Christian grace, by blaming most of his grifting ways on his wife. Yea!

Dontcha know, that I bet them damn libtards dreamed this whole thing up to prevent 'Murica from having a Virginia bred white Christian Ayatollah for President.
The guy made me want to barf when responding to his sentence! Calling on religion and his Jesus Christ, of course! Typical criminal Republican!
ReplyDeleteI will be surprised if this guy sees the inside of this 5star resort prison and spa. He does not qualify. A few years of appeals and bingo. One week max awarded. Now mo? mo may need extra help and type treatments. Both are quite the humans.
