Stephen Fry weighs in on the terrorist attack in France.

Courtesy of Stephen Fry's blog:

We strive to find words strong enough to convey our outrage at the obscene atrocity committed in Paris last Wednesday morning. But it is easy to overlook the most apt word: stupid. Incredibly, imponderably, staggeringly, bowel-shatteringly dumb. ‘Clear flaws in intelligence’ indeed.

I cannot be sure exactly how many people since the murders have seen one or more of the Charlie Hebdo cartoons that ‘insult’ Islam or mock its prophet but I should imagine the number is now in the tens of millions. Had the brothers stayed their bloody hands it would have been 60,000 at the very most. Mohammed must be very cross indeed that his two cretinous representatives have spread the ‘insults’ so unimaginably far and wide. If Said and Cherif Kouachi had had a grain of sense in their terminally moronic heads they could have foreseen that their actions would create secular martyrs, propagate those images they so disliked and increase yet again reasonable people’s dislike of the faith they claimed (rightly or wrongly) to represent.

 Brilliant, yet obvious, point.

Fry has much more to say on the subject so I suggest you click the link to read it.

So the Cambridge Union Society chose Sarah Palin the same year they chose this guy? Damn talk about overdoing the whole diversity thing.

Why would Fry expect the two brothers to be logical? They were insane and were using a religion to try to justify their insanity.

Buzz Aldrin has already dropped out of the Cambridge Union Society 2015 lineup of speakers after previewing the list for this year. Palin curse in action again?

      http://cambridge.tab.co.uk/2015/01/11/union-scrambles-reclaim-one-star-speakers-awkward-lent-term-release/

In an embarrassing retraction, the Cambridge Union is cancelling one of its biggest names – leaving the Lent Term calendar looking meagre.

Buzz Aldrin - the second person ever to walk on the moon – decided he did not want to come the The Union after a preview of the termcard was shared with the press.

Hype levels are likely to be off the chain around March 2nd as Sarah Palin, the world’s favourite ‘Murrrican politician, jets in from the States. Palin is famed for:

--Having the “lowest vote of confidence in a running mate since 1988″ when she ran for vice-presidency in 2008 (despite not knowing what the job entailed)
--Claiming that the difference between a “soccer mom” and a pitbull is “lipstick”
--Believing that mankind co-existed with dinosaurs 6000 years ago when the Earth was made.

It’s hard to imagine she’ll enjoy Cambridge.

The door has just been opened for Sarah to back out. She can now put herself on the same level as Buzz Aldrin and back out because of a "preview of the termcard". Of course Sarah doesn't know what termcard is and has completely missed the fact that Buzz is probably backing out because of being on the same billing as her ignorant ass, but hey, any excuse will do!

Buzz Aldrin, a republican, is best friends with Gabby Giffords husband Mark and Gabby, and knows first-hand what Sarah's insightful comments did to endanger, permanently harm, and almost terminate, Gabby's life. Astronauts stick together; Aldrin chose friendship over party (republican) alliance on this one. Count him as just one more republican who has nothing good to say about Sarah Palin, one more republican whose own personal life has been affected in a deeply hurtful personal way by her vicious hatred.

From the comments at Raw Story:

      CheeseFlap • 15 minutes ago

Come and listen to my story 'bout a tundra girl,
She ate moose meat and occasionally a squirrel,
And then one day she was grasping for a word,
And out from her lips came a salad made of turds...

Well the next thing you know she's got a new career,
Yappin' 'bout others but never looking in the mirror,
Some folks in Cambridge said 'how about a speech?'
So they could all share a laugh at the pterodactyl's screech.

If she doesn't drop out, and tries to answer questions off the cuff, the British press will be her worst nightmare. They won't coddle her like in the U.S. They are ruthless. No mercy.

    2. In a way, I think that fact that cartoons aren't particularly funny or imaginative is one of the points Stephen Fry is trying to make. The Charlie Hebdo magazine was not doing well financially, partly because the humor was no longer selling well.

Offensive stuff can sometimes be most successfully squashed by ridiculing it's audience into non-existence.

But I also think that Stephen Fry has missed the mark in one aspect. Murderous young men desperate to see themselves dying in a hail of gunfire after garnering world wide attention are not really very picky about their purported "reason" for killing. They, in fact, just like to kill. The Newton school shooter killed 20 children and 6 adults. But because the agenda wasn't "political", we have had zero government action on addressing the problem.

You know, I'm not actually all that surprised the Union would be interested in Sarah Palin.

She is a world-class bullshit artist. If she wasn't, she never would have gotten as far as she has (well, that along with her pushup bra, lip licking, and the fact that she lives all the way up Alaska).

Such epic bullshit artistry has to count for something among the debate-set. However, they must recognize that her bullshit is only an inch wide AND only an inch deep. Sarah Palin continues to use the same exact phrases and techniques after all these years and she's just not very bright.

I still think the whole thing is the Union being a little wicked and goofing on Mrs. Palin. And I really hope if she shows up at all, the students don't pull any punches.

...However, this was not the sentiment expressed by some in Jewish-Israeli society this week when the nation’s oldest daily newspaper Haaretz printed cartoons drawing parallels between Gaza and Charlie Hebdo. While the nation expressed profound sympathy with the satirists challenging Islamic fundamentalism, there was zero tolerance for internal satirists willing to challenge Jewish fundamentalism.

In a series of cartoons commemorating Charlie Hebdo was this image, with a simple message: 10 journalists killed at Charlie Hebdo, 13 journalists killed in Gaza #JeSuisCharlie #JeSuisGaza.

The comparison was not appreciated – and suddenly the same people crying in defense of freedom of speech against terror were themselves threatening terror to those exercising freedom of speech.

Haaretz reported several of the threats:

Yes, the Jews are off their rockers too, it doesn't make it right. Religions, all of them, are at the heart of this divisiveness of human society. Just close your eyes and pick one and you can rest assured a lot of blood has been spilled in its name.

  10. I expect they were looking for the most contrast.

Put Sarah on first and Fry after her and you've got yourself a massive gigglefest.

If she goes on after Fry, you've got an example of the lowest range of functioning homo sapien on display.

Either way she'll look bloody stupid.

Which is why she will never do this.

Twitter is exploding with wicked insults aimed at Fox after a terrorism 'expert' claimed that Birmingham, England is populated entirely by Muslims. He kept adding to the lies, making the entire fabricated story sound simply absurd.

Twitter has been merciless and the hashtag #FoxNewsFacts has some hilarious and creative 'facts' from Fox.

My favorite so far is "Norwich is now under @Shakira law. The mandatory salsa lessons are brutal, but we get better outfits. #foxnewsfacts "

My other favorite is an array of pictures of Fox personalities which includes 51 blonde white women and 3 blonde white men. The text reads "A quick reminder about on-screen diversity at Fox News"
