Well SOMEBODY'S going to have to find a new theme song.

Courtesy of Mediaite:

On Saturday pro-union Irish punk band the Dropkick Murphys told Wisconsin Governor and organized labor bête noire Scott Walker to stop playing their songs at his rallies.

Walker reportedly took the stage at the Iowa Freedom Summit this weekend to “I’m Shipping Up to Boston,” the band’s collaboration with the Guthrie family made big by its featured inclusion in The Departed. The Bostonians were not pleased.

You know I am sure there is some local shit kicker band that would LOVE to have Scott Walker play their songs while he busts Wisconsin unions and takes a giant crap on the middle class.

Isn't it ironic that so many Republican candidates running on the religious right have no problem with stealing. How does anyone take these folks serious? We need to start teaching critical thinking skills in kindergarten to combat these so called moral people.

Back in evangelical Colorado Springs in the late 80s/early 90s, we called these songs "secular music," and many of us were officially not allowed to listen to them (which didn't stop us, of course). This makes it even more ironic to me that religious right politicos are now (mis)appropriating these songs.

A little trip down memory lane...

Nancy and Ann Wilson's statement when McCain's campaign used their song, "Barracuda," after they asked him not to:

“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.”

O/T but maybe Boston- and the rest of us New Englanders- can send some snow to you Alaskans? Not looking forward to 3 ft + with the 10" snowblower.

Of course it has to happen the week I'm going to Boston. It's 75 degrees here in Cali today and instead of hanging out on the beach I'm packing for my trip like I'm going to the tundra.

Hope your flight's not canceled Dinty. Boston is notorious for not getting streets cleaned up after snow- not that they're any bargain to navigate when it's not snowing. Happy flying!

Sort of reminds me of when the 08 campaign was using barracuda and it created security issues for Heart. Though they had no issue with Sarah personally and even wanted to honor her when they performed at dwts. Barracuda the song was written for musicians and ppl like Sarah. Positive song

Barracuda was about the slimy corporate music industry.
Well---maybe it was written for someone like Sarah.

Alicia, I know you are a failed theater person, but give up the drama already.

(Is it possible you were too dramatic even for Broadway and that's why you had to run back to your parents in Florida?)

Remember the band from Home Alone, Gus Polinski and the Waukesha Kickers? (John Candy). Now there wold be a homegrown band to showcase Scott Walker.

  22. What no one seems to remember is that back in 2011 when Walker was busting the Unions and we were occupying the capitol here in Wisconsin, the Dropkick Murphys recorded a special song just for the occasion! Sample lyrics:
When the boss comes callin' don't you sell your soul
When the boss comes callin' you got to organize
    Let 'em know
We gotta take the bastards down!
