Here is a taste:
Here are instances when O'Reilly touted his time as a war correspondent during the Falklands conflict:
- In his 2001 book, The No Spin Zone: Confrontations With the Powerful and Famous in America, O'Reilly stated, "You know that I am not easily shocked. I've reported on the ground in active war zones from El Salvador to the Falklands."
- Conservative journalist Tucker Carlson, in a 2003 book, described how O'Reilly answered a question during a Washington panel discussion about media coverage of the Afghanistan war: "Rather than simply answer the question, O'Reilly began by trying to establish his own bona fides as a war correspondent. 'I've covered wars, okay? I've been there. The Falklands, Northern Ireland, the Middle East. I've almost been killed three times, okay.'"
- In a 2004 column about US soldiers fighting in Iraq, O'Reilly noted, "Having survived a combat situation in Argentina during the Falklands war, I know that life-and-death decisions are made in a flash."
- In 2008, he took a shot at journalist Bill Moyers, saying, "I missed Moyers in the war zones of [the] Falkland conflict in Argentina, the Middle East, and Northern Ireland. I looked for Bill, but I didn't see him."
- In April 2013, while discussing the Boston Marathon bombing, O'Reilly shared a heroic tale of his exploits in the Falklands war:
Yeah none of that happened.
It does appear that O'Reilly was present in Buenos Aires during a protest, which O'Reilly described like this:
"A major riot ensued and many were killed. I was right in the middle of it and nearly died of a heart attack when a soldier, standing about ten feet away, pointed his automatic weapon directly at my head." A television cameraman was trampled, journalists were banged up, and O'Reilly and others were teargassed. "After a couple of hours of this pandemonium," he recalls, "I managed to make it back to the Sheraton with the best news footage I have ever seen. This was major violence up close and personal, and it was an important international story."
Only problem was that the news agencies present at the riot, including CBS News who O'Reilly was working for at the time, did not report any fatalities nor use of tear gas.
Now I know what you're thinking. "Well surely, much like Brian Williams, a trusted newsman like Bill O'Reilly will take a leave of absence and offer an apology for lying to his viewers all of these years."
Only problem with that is suggesting that Fox is a trusted news source or that Bill O'Reilly has an ounce of integrity.
And both assumptions are incorrect.
No he will continue to do his same bullshit job, at the same bullshit cable news station, catering to the same bullshit loving demographic. Nothing changes when your job is nothing more than shoveling excrement for a living.
P.S. It turns out that O'Reilly got wind of this Mother Jones piece and he is none too happy:
Bill O'Reilly says a new Mother Jones report alleging that the Fox News host made false claims about his Falklands War experience is "a piece of garbage" and that its principal author, David Corn, is "a liar."
In a telephone interview with the On Media blog, O'Reilly called Corn a "despicable guttersnipe" who has been trying to take him down "for years."
"It's a hit piece," O'Reilly said. "Everything I said about what I reported in South and Central America is true. Everything."
P.P.S. David Corn, the "despicable guttersnipe," caught wind of O'Reilly catching wind and he stands by his reporting:
"He said he was in the war zone during the Falkland Island conflicts -- the conflict was in the Falkland Islands, it was not in Buenos Aires," Corn said. "He covered a protest after the war was over in Buenos Aires. I don't think that's a reasonable definiton of a combat situation. If you look up 'combat situation' in the dictionary, it's not 'an ugly protest'."
He's got a point. However I stand by my earlier statement that this will have virtually NO impact on O'Reilly who is after all an entertainer, and NOT a journalist.
Best comment during the Falkland War
ReplyDeleteBritish Admiral ... "we have the Falklands surrounded and will be able to starve them out"
Falkland had a people population of 2000+ and a sheep population of 1,000,000+
The locals may have got sick and tired of eating mutton ..but they would have never starved.
Maybe everyone there was a vegetarian???
DeleteBeaglemom
Bill-O has better eyesight than Sarah ... he could see Falkland combat from 1200 miles away in BA.
ReplyDeleteI know for a fact he's lying. I was living there at the time of "Las Malvina's"or Falklands as Americans know it (I am from Pa. so an American). It was a protest which happens on a regular basis there. According to O'Liely I am a combat veteran. LOL!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to urge people to follow the link and read the article at Mother Jones and watch the videos. BOR contradicts his own reporting. They have him trapped by his own words. IMO, this is worse than what Brian Williams did. It's very damming.
ReplyDeleteBut...Fox Noise. IOKIYAR!!!
DeleteThe Washington Post has the story, too. Sorry, I can't do a link.
ReplyDeleteWhat can you say about someone who calls people "pinhead" and "idiot" when they disagree with him, the havoc he unleashed on his ex-wife and her boyfriend, and this from his days on "Inside Edition:"

I know what I can say.....but it's NSFW.
Anyone who has traveled much in Latin America has had an automatic weapon pointed at them (I'm not talking about resorts, but real travelling around on buses and off the beaten track). It's happened to me more times than I can recall, but at least 3 or 4.
ReplyDeleteAnd I doubt the riots in BA were much worse than the 'Battle in Seattle' (the protests during the World Trade Organization meetings) about fifteen years ago, so what do you know, I've been in combat, too. *eyeroll*
So.....by Big-Bad-Bill-O'lie-ly's standards, a big part of the population of Ferguson, Missouri are now combat vets.
Deletehahahaha good observation!
DeleteIt looks like the bloviating blowhard got busted trying to put some fake spine in the No Spine Zone.
ReplyDeleteBill O'Reilly, like all the "news" people at Fox is a blowhard phony. I hate seeing his books in the non-fiction section of bookstores and, especially, in the children's non-fiction section. His version of history is largely fictive.
ReplyDeleteO/T a bit but about another far right windbag. I had a conversation with a woman recently about reading. She said she was reading the book by the Pakistani teenager who was so badly disfigured by the Taliban for going to school to her daughters. I told her that I had given the book to my teen granddaughter last year because I think American kids need to think about how difficult getting an education can be in many parts of the world. We agreed. Then she added that her ten year-old son was reading a book by Rush Limbaugh. I almost choked but I did not say anything. Our conversation had been pleasant up to that moment and I didn't want to ruin it.
Beaglemom
I hide O'Reilly's books (and Palin's, Limbaugh's, etc.) when I see them on display at WalMart or the grocery store. If someone wants them that much, they can search for them. Otherwise, no free publicity for those grinning liars staring out from the shelves.
DeleteBeaglemom, I have quietly ended friendships and even family connections over Palin, Rush, Levin, the adoration of Reagan....life is too short.
DeleteBooks by the Radical Right Wing Extremist Conservatives are quite burnable except for the noxious smoke they give off.
Delete"Jerry, just remember, it's not a lie if you believe it....
ReplyDeleteAhhh! The Costanza Defense! Perfect.
DeleteThe Falklands War was in 1982. I wonder how long it took for Billo's warped mind to morph a riot in Buenos Aires into a war zone. He probably waited a few years, then started mentioning it casually, feeling safer with each passing year that the lie would serve him well.
ReplyDeleteThe suckers that listen him will delight in his "triumph" over his accusers however false that may be. It's his stock in trade, riches for lies.
A psychiatrists POV.... Bill-O, Sarah Palin, Williams
ReplyDeletehttp://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2015/02/09/psychiatrists-view-why-would-brian-williams-make-up-stories/?intcmp=sem_outloud
Why would Brian Williams make up stories?
From the imagination of Bill O'R. "There I was in my foxhole, surrounded by caustic Argentinians and Falklanders with dirty sheep. The Brits were somewhere nearby. The Argentinians and the Falklanders were arguing, but the sheep advanced on me with steady gazes. I knew this would be the end, unless I took matters into my own hands. Then remembering my cuticle scissors in my back pocket, I pulled them out and snip, snipped them at the sheep. As they milled about and retreated, I looked for Bill Moyers, but not seeing him, I fled.
ReplyDeleteLook out, people of Anchorage!
ReplyDeleteIt's the weekend and the Palins are rolling into town!

ReplyDeleteStop judging people you don't know, Alicia.
DeleteFrom Sarah Palin’s Facebook for Bill O'Reilly :
ReplyDeleteIt’s said that a man’s word can affect the course of history. Certainly a man with a microphone can. Mainstream media lies. Without accountability their power can influence national debate, shift momentum, and destroy a person’s good name. All affecting history.
Wait a second, my bad. That Sarah Palin facebook post was for Brian Williams.
How come Sarah Palin doesn’t write something like that for Bill "Lying " O'Reilly?
It's possible she just might. There is clearly no love lost between Billy and the idiotic she devil.
DeleteHer m.o. is to wait until others have attacked and then pile on in the nastiest way possible. If this thing blows up the way it looks like it will - and should! - there's no way she'd defend him, you can bank on that.
You really should venture away from right wings "news".
ReplyDelete"Now, on the face of it, Biden just randomly perching his hands on someone’s shoulders doesn’t seem that out-of-place. After all, this is the same veep who got up close with the family members of every single senator last month and made some of them feel awkward.
But there was actually a reason for Biden to hold her shoulders. According to reports, Carter slipped and fell on the ice outside the Pentagon and Biden was probably making sure she was okay."
So.....by Big-Bad-Bill-O'lie-ly's standards, a big part of the population of Ferguson, Missouri are now combat vets.
ReplyDeleteI believe Bill O'Reilly doesn't lie. He's just like Sarah Palin. They both tell the truth.
ReplyDelete" who is after all an entertainer, and NOT a journalist. "- so you recognize the difference, you realize this includes all those people you mentioned from msnbc and their talking head shows, and also including your favorite Maddow... It is all about getting you to tune in buddy.
ReplyDeleteThe funniest thing about all of this- AL Franken called him out on his shit years ago, The Lying Liars- I can tell you one thing, last week I reached into a cabinet to grab a hand saw, as I was pulling my hand out, I was hit by shrapnel, also known as a sliver. I paused for one second, do I leave my butchered hand in there, or withdraw it? I retreated, made sure my wife was safe, and we made our way back to the safehouse, also known as our fucking home. The next day we used the sunlight to remove the shrapnel AKA sliver, applied Blisterine, and I'm glad to report, I'm ok, and so is the guy I so heroically rescued. This is bill o if the truth be told
ReplyDeleteTap
O'Reilly just tweeted his talking points for his show tonight. He says he has proof Corn lied.
ReplyDeleteCorn didn't lie about anything. He dug up quotes from Billy's books and caught him contradicting what he himself reported at the time. He also has quotes from some cbs coworkers and Tucker Carlson.
DeleteI know it's Fox and what do they care about truth or integrity, but I am so hoping to see BOR go down the toilet over this.
Keith Olbermann Calls Out ‘Moron’ O’Reilly for Mother Jones Response

I'd like to hear about Bill O'Really's service in Vietnam with the 203rd Chairborne Rangers...
ReplyDeleteCorn is nothing but an extremist radical mouthpiece for whichever socialist leftist regime is in power. he wouldn't know the truth if it bit him on the ass. Horrible author, he's so bad that even his non-fiction is fiction.
