After attacking Obamacare relentlessly, and threatening to repeal it if elected, Ted Cruz is now using it to get insurance for his family. Oops, my irony meter just threw up again.

Look make no mistake, I still hate the Obamacare that my family is now using. Just hate it!
Courtesy of CNN:

Ted Cruz is going on Obamacare.

The newly announced Republican presidential candidate told CNN's Dana Bash on Tuesday that he will sign up for health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act -- a law he has been on a crusade to kill.

"We'll be getting new health insurance and we'll presumably do it through my job with the Senate, and so we'll be on the federal exchange with millions of others on the federal exchange," Cruz said.

Asked whether he would accept the government contribution available to lawmakers and congressional staffers for their health care coverage through the ACA, Cruz said he will "follow the text of the law."

You know the funny thing is that the only reason that Senators have to use Obamacare is because they complained when it was first being drafted that Congress would be excused from following the mandate. Gee look how that worked out.

By the way this inspired humorist Andy Borowitz to suggest that President Obama would sign an executive order making Cruz ineligible for Obamacare.

However my favorite satirical piece about Cruz (And trust me they are hard to separate from the non-satirical pieces on him. Like this one for instance.), was from the Onion which suggested that Time magazine subscribers were bracing themselves for the inevitable close up or Ted Cruz's face.

Yeah we can laugh now, until somebody actually has to see it.

...In April 2013, he was identified as “The Most Hated Man in the Senate” by Foreign Policy magazine, which described him as “the human equivalent of one of those flower-squirters that clowns wear on their lapels.” And that was before he led the government shutdown. If you did a web search for “Senators Hate Ted Cruz” on Sunday, that Foreign Policy article wouldn’t have even come up on the first Google page. It was supplanted by titles like “Why Senate Republicans Hate Ted Cruz,” “GOP Still Despises Ted Cruz,” “Everybody Hates Ted Cruz” and the generously titled “How Unpopular Is Ted Cruz Right Now?” Answer: very.

Mr. Cruz is not an outsider, grass-roots version of President Obama in 2008. He is unacceptable to many conservative officials, operatives, interest group leaders and pundits. If they don’t take him seriously, voters won’t either. The elites would rally to defeat such a candidate if he ever seemed poised to win.

Your Handy Guide to Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has hopped aboard the GOP clown car, announcing his candidacy on Monday at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University. Let's talk about Cruz by way of a refresher on what he's all about.

And yet as absurd, as dishonest, and as destructive (Gov shutdown and billions lost) as he has been, he has a following who will vote for him enthusiastically. That is very unsettling. I see he is now claiming those who accept the scientific consensus on AGW are "flat earthers." He knows those he is addressing his remarks toward are enormously ignorant.

  11. I remember this ignorant clown going around bashing "Obamacare" because he was on his wife's insurance. Everyone knew if that weren't (on wife's insurance) the case he would be on "Obamacare" in a flash, just like all the other gop blatant hypocrites.

So we can add another strike against this animated clown.

And the gop nominate their best.

I bet his crazy father is on the "dole" too.

Rafael and family can still stay on his wife's insurance through COBRA. But I suspect if her COBRA is anything like mine, the COBRA plan will cost at least 2X more (even without subsidies) than a comparable plan on an ACA exchange. So I guess when faced with a choice between money and hypocrisy, hypocrisy wins. But he can still say he's a fiscal conservative without being a hypocrite about that. Yet.

President Obama let loose on Republicans today by explaining that the GOP will never be able to come up with their own healthcare plan because Obamacare was based on their ideas.

    The president said:

But the bottom line is this for the American people: The Affordable Care Act, this law, is saving money for families and for businesses. This law is also saving lives — lives that touch all of us. It’s working despite countless attempts to repeal, undermine, defund, and defame this law.

It’s not the “job-killer” that critics have warned about for five years. When this law was passed, our businesses began the longest streak of private-sector job growth on record: 60 straight months, five straight years, 12 million new jobs.

It’s not the fiscal disaster critics warned about for five years. Health care prices are rising at the slowest rate in nearly 50 years, which has helped cut our deficit by two-thirds since I took office. Before the ACA, health care was the single biggest driver driving up our projected deficits. Today, health care is the single biggest factor driving those projections down.

I mean, we have been promised a lot of things these past five years that didn’t turn out to be the case: death panels, doom. A serious alternative from Republicans in Congress.

The budget they introduced last week would literally double the number of the uninsured in America. And in their defense, there are two reasons why coming up with their own alternative has proven to be difficult.

First, it’s because the Affordable Care Act pretty much was their plan before I adopted it — based on conservative, market-based principles developed by the Heritage Foundation and supported by Republicans in Congress, and deployed by a guy named Mitt Romney in Massachusetts to great effect. If they want to take credit for this law, they can. I’m happy to share it.

    Let the fun begin !!!!

Canadian-born Ted Cruz getting birther meds from left and right

Ted Cruz is getting some of his tea party's own medicine. To be clear, Ted Cruz is a US citizen. He is born of an American mother and a Cuban father. He was born in Calgary, Canada. US statute says the following: ....

....The Salon article"Ted Cruz's ironic birther predicament" is spot on:

Cruz’s official Canadian birth certificate, as posted by the Dallas Morning News, shows that Rafael Edward Cruz was born in Calgary, Alberta, on December 22, 1970. Oddly, however, the birth was not registered until December 31, leaving an unexplained gap of nine days. But where was baby Ted over Christmas, an astute birther might ask. Donald Trump could build a casino in a hole that size.

Still, the birth certificate does state that Cruz’s mother, Eleanor Elizabeth Wilson, was born in Wilmington, Delaware. As Cruz has often said, that made him a U.S. citizen at birth, and therefore eligible to be president – but only if the birth certificate is accurate. The Canadian officials would have had no reason to question Cruz’s mother about her native country, nor would they have demanded any proof. Her word alone was good enough for Canadian purposes. Why would they care about the baby’s future qualification for the U.S. presidency?

President Obama did not have to produce any documents if he did not want to. Again, he was born in the United States of America. He was born on US land, not a Canal Zone in Panama like John McCain or Canada soil like Ted Cruz. It seems Ted Cruz may be missing some papers. Will the tea party start requesting these? As the Salon article continues:

Which brings us – or rather, which ought to bring the birthers – to the documents Cruz has not produced. Where, for example, is the Consular Report of Birth Abroad, which Cruz’s parents could have obtained at the U.S. consulate in Calgary? That would at least establish their intention to register him as an American citizen while they were living in Canada. For that matter, where is Eleanor Wilson’s own birth certificate? I mean, anyone can claim to have been born in Delaware, and everyone (including this dual citizen of the United States and Canada) knows that Canadians are too polite to ask tough questions. Birthers will have no such qualms. Will they require documentary proof?

Of course, even a sheaf of birth certificates would still leave Cruz’s citizenship technically open to question. Under the law in effect in 1970, Cruz would only have acquired U.S. citizenship if his mother had been “physically present” in the United States for ten years prior to his birth, including five years after she reached the age of fourteen. Neither Cruz’s birth certificate, nor his mother’s, nor the Consular Report could irrefutably establish Eleanor Wilson’s residence for the necessary length of time. For all birthers know, she might have been living in Kenya.

When the Universe took away the instant comedy of Sarah Palin, it replaced it with the twisted lunacy that is the anti-immigrant Canadian born Texas GOP Senator (and now presumed frontrunner of 2016 Presidential hilarity) Ted Cruz. And on Twitter everybody came up with their #TedCruzCampaignSlogans. Here's one of mine, in cartoon form. Thanks Universe, you made my job so much easier, at least until this loco drops out.

  22. I wonder if he's going on the exchange to try and have a "horror story" he can use as political fodder. As someone above pointed out, he would be eligible through COBRA under his wife's plan at Goldman. Also, as a Senator (shudder) he's eligible for family coverage.
