In what may be the first time in American political history, Jeb Bush is asking donors to give him LESS money.

"Look I just want to swim in a pool of money piled this high. I'm not greedy."
Courtesy of the Washington Post:

An unusual request has gone out to wealthy donors writing large checks to support former Florida governor Jeb Bush: Please don’t give more than $1 million right away.

The requested limit, confirmed by multiple people familiar with the amount, may mark the first time that a presidential hopeful has sought to hold off supporters from contributing too much money.

The move reflects concerns among Bush advisers that accepting massive sums from a handful of uber-rich supporters could fuel a perception that the former governor is in their debt. The effort is also driven by a desire to build as broad a pool of donors as possible among wealthier contributors.

So even as Bush (R) is headlining a series of high-dollar events for a super PAC backing his bid, fundraisers have been instructed not to ask donors to give more than $1 million per person this quarter.

So Bush is concerned that taking more than a million dollars, might give people the impression that he is in these donor's debt?  But anything less than a million, means he owes them nothing?

Interesting thought process.

Look we all know who is going to be pulling Jebbie's strings, and it makes no difference if they give less than a million dollars or not.

Jeb Bush is a big business sycophant and he will jump through whatever flaming hoops they hold up for him.

Electing Jeb Bush guarantees a bad economy, ultra conservative Supreme Court appointees, and more likely than not another unnecessary war.

And in order to stop him, and his truckloads of money, we need Hillary Clinton.

Like it, or not.

  1. It's all about perception. To these guys a million dollars is chump change. And who's to say they won't make lots of "small" donations of, say $950,000 or so?

    1. All they have to do is donate to Super Pacs instead of to Jeb. Then they can give as much as they want and it is all anonymous. No need to disclose.

Thank you, Stephen Colbert, for educating the country on just how abusive Citizens United is and how corrupt our political donation system is.

I can be even more helpful, I will give him no money and I will try to convince as many people as I can to also help him out by not giving him any money.

I don't believe for a nano-second that Jeb Bush will really turn down the dollars from his very rich friends. This is pure hypocrisy on his part. What a jerk.

    1. They can give unlimited amounts through Super Pacs and their identities will be kept secret.

      All legal.

Thanks for the lesson, Stephen Colbert.

Man, I need to make me a Super Pac.

If Bush, or any other regressive is elected, there will be conscription, i. e. compulsory enlistment on short notice.

O/T, but Gryphen have you heard the latest garbage coming from some of the Colorado repubes? They have had an incredibly successful program in place for I think 4 years now and it was supported by donated monies. It provided free permanent birth control such as IUD's for those in need.

The program is credited with reducing the teen pregnancy rate hugely and cutting the abortion levels by 40%. (I think that's the number.)

The private funds are drying up and the state is trying to take up the slack. There is a bi-partisan bill providing funding that has been proposed. Unfortunately, there are certain idiots who are claiming it is an illegal bill since their constitution specifically states no monies shall be provided for abortions. Their logic?LIFE BEGINS AT CONCEPTION so any device which prevents the fertilized egg from becoming attached is an abortion!

It's another attempt at PERSONHOOD laws.

I heard it talked about on NPR today.

This is an incredibly effective program here in Colorado and one that has saved our state a lot of money (with more saving in the future). Of course, these morons have been trying to get this "personhood" bill passed for years, only to be smacked down time and time again. The birth control program is logical, rational, and effective (and reduces the number of abortions), yet it's in danger because of a group of morons who can't see beyond their sick embryo fetish.

    2. Yeah. I heard that too.

Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.

They don't want welfare and this program cut welfare.

They don't want abortions and this program cut abortions.

It also cut the teen pregnancy rate.

But no. They don't want abortions or welfare but they don't want birth control either.

No, they want to tell you you can't have SEX. That is what this is about. Control issues. No sex for you unless it meets our arbitrary biblical interpretations. They basically want to legislate who can have sex, when they can have sex and probably even how they can have sex.

If they weren't so anti-regulation I'm sure they'd put forth legislation requiring you to get a permit to have sex. Oh, wait. That would be a marriage certificate, wouldn't it. Yeah, all you single adults in your 20s, 30, 40, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s. You can't have sex unless you are married.

Yes, all you seniors. No sex for you!

These people make me beyond sick.

    A child left unprotected
State Rep. Justin Harris and his wife adopted a young girl through the state Department of Human Services. How did she, six months later, end up in the care of a man who sexually abused her?
"On April 4, 2014, a 38-year-old resident of Bella Vista named Eric Cameron Francis was arrested by the Arkansas State Police for the rape of a 6-year-old girl in what the police said was his temporary care. Sexual crimes against children always attract a certain horrified attention, but this particular case earned additional scrutiny because Francis had recently worked as head teacher at a Christian preschool in West Fork owned by state Rep. Justin Harris (R-West Fork) and his wife, Marsha."

Hey that so called XTIAN preschool he operates? That name seems familiar. Can you say stuck on the goobermint tit? Shure u kan!

    http://religionandamericanlaw.blogspot.com/2011/11/religious-entanglement-in-preschool.html

A preschool in Little Rock, Arkansas is under investigation for inappropriate handling of state tax dollars as evident in the endorsement of Christianity interwoven with the school curriculum. The preschool, Growing God’s Kingdom, is not a state institution and is owned by a Representative Justin Harris, a state legislator. However, this preschool has received over 1 million dollars since 2006 from the Arkansas Better Chance (ABC) program. The ABC program is funded by both federal and state task dollars and distributes money across all preschools in Arkansas. Growing God’s Kingdom is heavily religious based (as evident in the name of the program) and Christianity is included in the curriculum. This is evident in the preschool staff’s handbook, which instructs employees to “share the love of Jesus with these children” and “teach them the word of God.”

Oh and from Wonkette this example of legislative asshattery from Rep Harris!

      http://wonkette.com/578427/lets-meet-justin-harris-the-arkansas-houses-godly-child-abandoner
"On the more pernicious side, our intrepid Daycare Entrepreneur introduced a bill this week that would weaken the requirements for sprinkler systems in child care facilities. Under Harris’s proposal, daycare facilities wouldn’t be required to have sprinklers or other fire suppression systems unless they have “commercial cooking equipment.” After all, everyone knows that plain old regular kitchen stoves never cause fires.

Yes, let’s repeat that: Justin Harris owns a preschool, and he wants childcare facilities to be free to operate without sprinkler systems, just as long as they aren’t using commercial-grade ovens, stoves, or fryers. Presumably, Jesus will protect the little tykes just as well as some expensive sprinkler system would. We’re looking forward to his next bill, allowing daycares to let kids play in traffic as long as there aren’t any tractor-trailer rigs in the mix."

      Because arKANSAS I guess!

Understand if you don't post this comment and why you might not be interested in blogging about this at all.

Don't know if you are following the story but it's getting much deeper and seems to be even more sickening.

      http://www.arktimes.com/ArkansasBlog/archives/2015/03/07/foster-family-disputes-key-staments-from-justin-harris

Also think the next thing to come out is the xtians and the Arkansas state agencies probably being involved with and paying for various forms of treatment quackery like "attachment therapy". This quackery possibly was being used on these children and others in the foster system. Wonder if aspects of it were used in the godly daycare the legislator runs?

WEST FORK, AR--There's lot of concern on behalf of parents with children who attended the "Growing God's Children" pre-school facility while Eric Francis, a former employee who sexually assaulted a little girl. Parents from that school weren't notified of any concerns regarding Eric Francis. According to the Department of Human Services, there is no policy in place requiring the preschool to alert parents since the crime did not happen at the facility. Despite that, those parents we spoke to say they should've been told that a staff employee assaulted a minor.

"We're not talking about somebody who got arrested for a DWI, we're talking about somebody who raped a six year old little girl," says one parent

My theory is Jeb is hedging his bets. He knows whoever is made R candidate is going to need the War Chest of All War Chests to win. If Jebbie takes all the money now and doesn't get the nomination ...

Also, if he DOES get the nomination, he will need more later. So same thing. Even the richest can only give so much, until it really does hurt.

Can I say once again how utterly sickened the Citizens United decision made me?
