Voters in Parma, Missouri voted in their first African-American female mayor.
Tyrus Byrd will be sworn in as mayor on Tuesday evening, April 14 at the Parma Community Building.
According to Mayor Randall Ramsey, five out of six police officers resigned this week, effectively immediately.
Mayor Ramsey said the city's attorney, the clerk and the waste water treatment plant supervisor also turned in resignation letters citing "safety concerns."
The previous mayor, a white guy of course, had been in office for 37 years.
Parma only has 740 residents so some wondered why they needed six police officers in the first place.
By the way Missouri is also where Ferguson is located, so as you see the state continues to struggle with their racism problem.
I'm thinking there was a whole lot of graft going on with city officials and the cops since they wiped the computers. I'd say--- stay tuned.
ReplyDeleteAlso didn't want to share any information the could help the new mayor be successful.
DeleteDespicable human behavior at its finest?
They quit before they could be fired.
ReplyDeleteSeems that the racism that had previously been percolating below the surface is coming to full boil.
ReplyDeleteMy brain stutters...
Lucky, lucky Mo. town! The got the bigots out of office and authority with no hoopla at all, and now can make a town that is fair and good for all of its citizens. They should be celebrating big time. Very cool opportunity to remake a Missouri town into something special. If they can do it and do it well, other non-bigots in Missouri will be relocating there, or visiting there in droves. Parma, Missouri, kudos!
ReplyDeletewe will overcome...stay strong out there folks. its a new day. at least they Quit. unemployed now. no uninjoyment no nothin'
DeleteThis is very much a positive situation for the mayor, the city government and the residents. I am sure the vacated jobs can soon be filled with well-qualified individuals who will perform in an exemplary manner.
DeleteI totally agree with Anonymous 8:13 below who suggests that a forensic business audit be done at once. There needs to be an accurate accounting done immediately so that the new Mayor will never be blamed for any graft or corruption that may have occurred during the previous administration.
37 years in office is too long. Times have changed, but not in THAT burg.
ReplyDeleteRacism or not, the town did elect an African-American who also happens to be a woman. Good on them for that.
ReplyDeleteUnless they dropped the hard drives in the toilet on their way out the door, a good IT person should be able to retrieve any info left.
ReplyDeletedrives dropped in water would have recoverable data, because presumably, the platters would not have been spinning.
DeleteUsing latest laser tech, even data from broken platters is sometimes recoverable
Wonder when they will find a burning cross on her lawn? Planted no doubt by a God-fearing Christian...
ReplyDelete...former Parma, MO mayor and posse police officers. To be continued, for sure.

My town tops out at just under 20,000 (with twice as many visitors during the summer months) and we have 2 -- count 'em TWO -- regional police officers. Of course, we're in Canada.....
ReplyDeleteGood! Let them resign. Who needs racist cops. Now they don't have to go to the trouble of firing them. HA!
ReplyDeleteI have to get her a message to the new Mayor: "Do a forensic business audit at once. Those people probably have been putting more in their pockets than in the town coffers."
ReplyDeleteThey've just handed her her first act as mayor: downsize local government. And it didn't cost them anything. No severance packages needed when the target quits.
ReplyDeleteI doubt any of the will be missed.
And now she is free to replace them if they even need replacing.
Hope they also put their homes up for sale and left, providing they even lived in the town, which I kinda doubt.
Yay lots of good jobs available for people wanting to improve the lives of these residents. Hope the quitters find job hunting to be a challenge when explaining why they left their previous employment
ReplyDeleteDoesn't that make you wonder what was going on for the last 37 years? Get that forensic audit done immediately. Use the money that would have paid the racists to pay for the audit. Downsized government and add no extra costs.
ReplyDeleteYes! First order of business.

There was definitely something fishy going on there. It's probably less about color than corruption.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful opportunity for people of color to take their lives back.
Yup, now they can turn it into mini Detroit.
DeleteThat must have been a hell of a blow to the doughnut shops, though!

Privileged white men don't take to kindly to working for any woman, let alone a woman of color. They did her a huge favor. Time to hire police that reflect those they're sworn to protect and serve.
