Yes that was a car ignoring the blinking lights and stop sign on the school bus and damn near killing three young children trying to board their bus.
Here is more from King 5:
Police are looking for the driver of an SUV that passed a stopped school bus on the right and nearly hit some children getting ready to board.
Lisa Razo and Brandy Wheeler say their kids were nearly run down as they headed out to catch the bus Friday morning.
"I looked up and the car passed by the kids and my heart almost dropped," said Razo.
It happened Friday at 7:25 a.m., according to bus security video, near the corner of 124th Avenue East and 224th Street East in Graham.
Witnesses say the driver of the GMC Jimmy drove through a ditch to pass the school bus on the right hand side. Several angles show the SUV passing the bus. Children seen walking toward the bus door suddenly jumped back as the SUV passed.
I don't think you have to be a parent to have your heart jump into throat while watching that video.
I don't usually yell out loud when I see a video but I certainly did in response to this.
There is a $1,000 reward for information about this lunatic, and I certainly hope somebody gets the chance to collect it.
I assume that the cops can only charge him with some traffic violations and reckless endangerment, but personally I feel the person should be charged with attempted murder.
I realize that probably wouldn't fly but I can still wish for it. Right?
Gresham is my "backyard," Gryph.
ReplyDeleteI doubt this person will turn him/herself in.
But I'll bet someone knows who it is.
DeleteI can't wait to hear they tracked him (or her) down.
I get the "feeling" it was a soccer mom late to drop off her own darling and couldn't be bothered with those "poor" kids that have to take the school bus.
3:39 It happened in Graham, Washington. Where is Gresham?
ReplyDeleteEastern suburb of Portland, Oregon.
DeleteHey Gryphen!
ReplyDeleteA former Sarah Palin panty sniffer is going after Brian Williams. He seems to be a newly hired writer for Mediaite, remember him John 'Creepy' Ziegler?

Gresham is in Oregon, right outside of Portland. Graham, WA is outside of Tacoma a ways.
ReplyDeleteSaw this on national morning news the other day. What in the hell was this driver in such a hurry thinking? No one figured out how fast that Suv was traveling. Someone needs to get their driver's license pulled. I am so sorry for the children to experience such a scarey thing.
ReplyDeleteIn my sisters neck of the woods there are plans to put cameras on buses to catch these guys. Good sturdy fine will curb behavior around
ReplyDeleteA fine, points on the license and telling the insurance company. Cost them big bucks for a long time.
DeleteI just love it when I'm stopped for a school bus and someone directly behind me is blowing their horn. People are NUTS!
ReplyDeleteEh, no harm/no foul.
ReplyDeleteI'm wishing it with you. The sign says stop, the bus has it's blinkers on, what's the hurry? Leave a little earlier and drive like a normal person. I can't count how many times I've seen this in person.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the hurry? I can almost excuse this. I live in an area with 9 schools (public, private, elementary, middle, senior high) in a 3-mile radius...and no sidewalks, so every kid gets a bus ride. The buses stop at every.single.house. along the route. Going 3 miles can take 45 minutes when the buses run...and they run from 6 - 9 am, 11 - 1 pm (for the kindergarten bus) and 2 - 5 pm every day, unless one or more of the schools has a late start or an early dismissal, in which case you could run into a bus any time. It's not like the kids are prompt to get on or off the buses, either. They mosey their way along, while the buses sit there with their lights flashing holding up cars in every direction.
DeleteGone are the days when buses made 1 or 2 stops....it's every. single. house. It's not uncommon to have buses trolling both sides of the one-lane roads, letting off students at different rates. Maybe the SUV driver was suffering a medical emergency and simply didn't have 45 minutes to wait around as children dawdled their way to the school bus and the mommies then engaged in lengthy discussions with the bus drivers.
The driver of the SUV was probably one of those people who think that rules (and laws) are made for other people. Unfortunately too many people driving vehicles think that traffic laws are merely suggestions that can be ignored at will, especially if you drive an SUV or a pickup truck. We see it all the time at stop signs and traffic lights.
