The host tonight is Cecily Strong who I think really has her work cut out for her considering some of the amazing hosts of the past. (My favorite? Stephen Colbert in 2006. Still just about the bravest performance I have ever seen.)
Here is the list of invited guests. Which includes:
ABC - GWU Alumni and Scandal star Kerry Washington
Christian Broadcasting Network - Newt and Callista Gingrich
CBS News - Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and TV’s Madam Secretary Sec. of State Téa Leoni.
CNN - Actress (and ex-wife of CNN founder Ted Turner) Jane Fonda Fox News - Donald Trump, Martha Stewart, and reality TV star Brody Jenner
Huffington Post - YouTube and Vine stars like Bethany Mota, Nash Grier, Marcus Johns, Jerome Jarre, and Tyler Oakley
USA Today - Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, Naya Rivera of Glee, and Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty
AOL - Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick
The Hill - Actresses Lucy Liu and Connie Britton
The Washington Post - Steve Case, co-founder of AOL and Chairman of Case Foundation and Revolution, and Megan Smith, United States Chief Technology Officer in the Office of Science and Technology Policy
(Yes you're correct, she wasn't invited here either.)
Lately my favorite part of the night is Obama's comedy routine.
He was great last year and I have every expectation that he will be even better this year.
I will update this post as new material becomes available.
Update: Some tweets about the WHCD.
Update 2: Here's Obama's entire monologue.

The President killed it tonight.Update 2: Here is the President's entire monologue.
I agree that Stephen Colbert was the BEST. He insulted W, Fox the tv and print media ,NSA you name it.He insulted them all with right on criticisms . The Village Idiot W was laughing it took awhile (rem this is W) for him to catch on he was being destroyed by SC. Then he didn't laugh so much.It looks like Laura Bush said fuck you when SC walked by her at the end of his comments. I urge everyone to watch it on You Tube. It is a thing of Joy.
ReplyDeleteBush was laughing until someone explained it all to him. Then he finally got it.
DeleteDumbest president ever.
History will reflect that his legacy was that of the worst president we've ever had. And I doubt we will see any future president unseat him from that title.
Just turned it on and first thing i see is fucking Trump. Blech
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me, wheres Sawah. Ho ho hee hee ha ha !?
Yeah I see that Trump is teasing the morons again about the possibility of running.
DeleteYeah, bullshit.
But he's had 'big names in the GOP' tell him that only HE can beat Hillary. Yes, Donny, we really need a President who is such an astute business man that he took his father's fortune, and bankrupted freaking casinos! How does a casino go bankrupt? If Trump can't even make the machines tilt for the house, how could he ever rig enough Diebolds to win a Primary? Even against what's currently running for the GOP? Donny, I think the blind hair dye is eating your remaining brain cells.
DeleteExpecting a Facebook post soon from Sarah claiming that Obama stole her wink.
ReplyDeleteSarah can't wink anymore, too much botox.
DeleteYou just know Trump is going to get it again. None of the other nutters are there. Cruz and the rest of the clowns are in Iowa pandering to the fundies.
ReplyDeleteThe president mentioned Trump was still there and then that was all! Perfect that the super big ego Trump was just mentioned for being there!
DeleteWhat channel? CSPAN?
ReplyDeleteAlso CNN and MSNBC.
DeleteI especially enjoyed how President Obama put down FOX as well as the others - CNN and MSNBC. They ALL have it coming to them and it's no wonder their viewership has decreased. People are sick of the constant negative reporting!
DeleteI use to watch MSNBC and do no longer. Cannot stand Chris Matthews. Ed rants and raves and chris Hayes guy leaves me cold - too cocky!
Rachel Maddow is more of a fact-based journalist and teacher. Have enjoyed her through the years above anyone else. Plus, she is well educated and has her doctorate. She IS Dr. Maddow, but doesn't use the designation, bringing attention to herself. Wish they had her on one of the Sunday shows instead of the white, male Republican assholes! She'd be so much better than any of them!
Whaaat? They didn't invite the ass clown, oh that's going to leave a mark, HooHah!
ReplyDeleteObama: "I have something that rhymes with bucket list."
ReplyDeleteI laughed so hard I scared my dog!
DeletePresident Obama losing his temper, my all time favorite part so far.
ReplyDeleteHe was super funny. Loved it.
DeleteThat was so perfect on so many levels! Poor Luther!
DeleteBrother Barack is too cool for school. We're lucky we got to be around for his presidency.
DeleteWhat no Sarah from the SarahChannel? None of invitees have their own channel.
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows she is a journalist, she even told us about the what, why, when, who, whatever list of every knowledgeable journalist. I bet she wasn't invited because they are jealous haters.
Well said. ;) Think about it. What if Palin were what we were told she was in 2008? A bright (no), educated (no), college graduate (no), first woman governor of Alaska (okay), with a lovely family (eh?), a doting husband (no), five children (no), an energy expert (no), and a competent, ethical governor (no), who was fully prepared to take over as president in time of need.
DeleteIf her story were true, she would have been at the WHCD tonight. After the election, she would have gone back to Alaska and finished out a successful term as governor. She might have chosen to run again, and if re-elected, would have continued educating herself on a national level, and made use of contacts established during the campaign to keep herself visible on a national level, with a identity being established as someone who would advance on her own accomplishments.
If she had finished out her term and decided not to run again, she could have established herself as a savvy and intelligent commentator on political events, coming across as someone who took every opportunity to educate herself and advance her understanding of the country and the world.
She would have been at the dinner tonight as a competent, accomplished professional who appreciated the vast opportunities afforded to her by the campaign, and accepted that while the republican ticket didn't win, she could rightly be proud of even just being on the ticket.
Sadly, not one word of her story was true. The reality is that she was nothing but an unintelligent, uneducated, incurious person with enough superficial charm to fool people for enough time for her to take advantage of their ignorance.
In the end, her immense narcissism combined with her (let's be blunt) stupidity, led to her being ostracized by the RNC and not even welcome at the very next convention.
I was glad the president saw no reason to mention her tonight. He mentioned actual people, relevant for good or ill, but didn't bother with someone who is nothing more than a teen mean girl, bitching and whining on facebook waah, waah, waah.
Good riddance, Palin.
A big AMEN too all you said, Nefer!!!
DeletePalin too evil and nasty. That needs to be mentioned above everything else. Plus, she is so damned ignorant and reactive to anyone she thinks has slighted her. Truly not entertainment or political material!
DeletePaula Dean wasn't invited either and she has her own channel.
DeleteI'll agree with your take on the humorous part of the event so far. But what I noticed more than that was our President's lack of humor. He was not himself tonight. He delivered his lines and jokes as we've come to expect, but there was something more serious in his eyes. It may be that he feels that he doesn't need to play this game any longer, but I sense something more. I can't even imagine what this man knows and deals with on a daily basis. I love him to pieces.
ReplyDeleteRemember the year he did this and then went right to the situation room to follow the raid on Bin Laden? Trump barely had time to get tricky on Fox before we had word that Obama had finally, gotten bin Laden. The GOP has never recovered.
DeleteI agree, especially in regard to his "rhymes with bucket list" remark, and letting go with the "stupid, short-sighted, irresponsible" remark in regard to climate change deniers.
DeleteI agree that the president seemed different. He usually smiles a lot and laughs more between jokes.
DeleteTroll on trollio, that was his best stand- up show to date. Hard to top the Cheney two-fer. Except maybe for mad skills at political fund- raising when your middle name is Hussain.
DeleteIt may have been the two hostages that died by our friendly fire.
Delete"being black-ish...." fuck you chris cillizza, occasional guest on msnbc.
ReplyDeleteChris was quoting the President himself, who was referring to the sitcom "Black-ish", whose stars were in the audience. The line was well placed and well received.
DeleteWHAT? our journalistic taker was not invited? nor her leeches or cockroaches. So much for that long awaited DEGREE in that long college thingy thing camp out.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the bucket list thing....the funniest part of his speech and yes, he did seem some what subdued this time around. This man has so much on his plate it is impossible to comprehend...praising his wife was super sweet. I love the Bohner inviting butthead for his funeral speech was pretty good too. As far as Cecily....she stunk, omg..as in major thud. I don't think she is very funny on SNL either, but thats just me. She had a few good ones but the room was pretty quiet. She read off her cards more than looking up & the Aaron Schock thing was way too long. Just don't think she is a good stand up..period.
ReplyDeleteSharon I agree, the host was a dud she hit the right talking points but she didn't' make them funny. It made me think of other female hosts, out of the list I thought Ellen would've done a better job. I too notice the lack of him smiling which we come to love and expect but President Obama still killed it, I'm going to miss him when he leaves office.
DeleteI agree. I had never heard of Cecily before. Some of her lines were good, but she did not have the perfect timing and delivery needed for such a performance.
DeleteShe wasn't horrible, and I don't bear her any ill will, but I think there may have been better choices.
I also found her heavy eye makeup very distracting. It looked to me as though the eyelashes on the right (her left) were going to fall off.
Subdued? Seriously? What WHCD show exactly did you watch?
DeleteI am so glad I had my mouth empty when I watched him with 'Luther, the anger interpreter'!
ReplyDeleteLol!!!
So glad, we have a 'blackish' President!
I haven't been able to see it all as yet, but everything I heard and read just cracked me up...especially when you could tell there were those in the audience who'd had their senses of humor removed, so they could stand being a Republican.
ReplyDeleteAs well as "normal" people who just aren't hip enough for the room...laughing only when they noticed everyone else was.
You KNOW you killed, when comments sections of websites have angry sounding reich wingers stomping their feet and demanding we stop laughing.
I agree there was a level of care that hung over the President this evening. Climate, innocent lives lost, people who refuse to face reality... There is a lot on his plate.
ReplyDeleteLoved to the power of 9 his rant at the end.
Occupy America - I can thnk of amazing things to do with a billion dollars besides give it to the established party of what once was. Science education anyone?
UPDATE 3 SARAH PALIN WAS SEEN AT THE 2015 WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS DINNER
ReplyDeleteExcuse us we're sorry, that wasn't Sarah Palin, that was Sarah Palin lookalike Ivanka Trump.
Ravishing in red! Ivanka Trump strikes a memorable pose in strapless mermaid gown at the White House Correspondents' Dinner
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3055782/Ravishing-red-Ivanka-Trump-strikes-memorable-pose-strapless-mermaid-gown-White-House-Correspondents-Dinner.html
My niece shared a few classes with her at the University of Pennsylvania. Says she was nothing like her dad, but went on to say she rented the top three floors of a building for six years (Guess she had the "sarah palin" plan on graduation. Ravishing? I don't see it, she looks fake.
DeleteI just watched the video of President Obama's speech. I thought he did fine. I think he's been in a serious mood lately so that set the tenor of his words. I think he is very serious about the danger of Citizens United, i.e. the Koch brothers, about climate change and the dangerous behavior of the GOP in that regard. The rising death toll in Nepal cannot be good news either. It has to be clear to him that American journalists have never given him any credit for his accomplishments, often made despite their best efforts to thwart them.
ReplyDeleteI thought the audience was rude to him. Very sparse applause; it was as if he were speaking a foreign language. And they sure were uncomfortable with the words of angry "Luther." I bet you could smell the Republicans' hatred of him in that audience from a hundred miles away. As usual, President Obama retained his grace and intelligence throughout. He'll have one more of these to get through.
Beaglemom
They were rude, Beaglemom, but he said what needed to be said. That they didn't like it is too darn bad. They are complicit in the hatred of him, as far as I'm concerned.
DeleteThe grumpies in the audience didn't expect the President to do a Stephen Colbert on them.
DeleteI loved watching the reaction of some of the white folks in the audience last night. Truly think some of them didn't understand what President Obama said or his humor.
DeleteThought the crowd, as a whole, as rude to President Obama. Loved him doing the 'fuck it' portion! The media and Republicans need to be told by him to 'fuck off'!
So glad I cast my ballot for President Obama both times. And, I'm white, a senior and female citizen that pays attention to ALL politics.
I'll wager President Obama's last Correspondence Dinner will be a dandy. I know if I were him, I'd leave the media and Republican politicians some parting words as to their lies, hiding his accomplishments and behavior!
DeleteI loved seeing his video where he was placed on Mt. Rushmore. Cracked me up! Many in the crowd were very uncomfortable and they deserved being so. He gave them a taste of their own medicine and it was way, way past time.
I refuse to ever listen to the Kenyan Muslim
ReplyDeleteToo bad. He addressed your opinion in his speech.
DeleteLOL
Whoopdidoo. You stuck your fingers in your ears throughout your schooling, so no surprise, idiot.
DeleteHey, 5:46 AM - President Obama addressed you guys last night and basically told you to fuck off. Plus, didn't you get the comment/humor that he 'prayed four times a day if he could find time due to his busy schedule?
DeleteYou confirmed the fact you guys truly are fucking idiots!!!
anonymous 5:46 You are militantly stupid....when your ilk has died off from this planet, it will be a time of growth and opportunity for everyone, the world will be definitely better without you. and you are so stupid you don't even get that simple statement. You should educate yourself and your children so they don't grow up like you.
Delete9:44 AM Think Hell truly awaits your ugly soul!
DeleteMay I say that our First Lady looked drop dead gorgeous?
ReplyDeleteNot bad for a tranny
DeleteLovely lady and so well liked throughout our country and world! Same goes for her wonderful, hard-working husband! So happy they have each other!
DeleteSome of the dolts over at C4P apparently don't understand that the Correspondents dinner is where the President does comedy. They're tickled pink that he finally admitted that he prays 5 times a day, and apparently didn't know that Dick Cheney was never President.
ReplyDeleteAnd if anyone doesn't realize than Dick Cheney made all the decisions for that dolt Bush than they are most likely of very low intelligence.
DeleteObama is just terrific. He outclassed the right wing haters with apropos humor. Sucks to be them!
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin always wanted to look like a Chump
ReplyDeleteI meant Trump
LOVED when Oscar said, "you're lily white asses" at the outset of angry interpreter. About time that it was handed back to them. Uncomfortable, were they? Well, he's the Black man in the White House elected to two terms and they had it coming.
ReplyDeleteI loved the 'your lily white asses' comment! Republicans (white folks) and the media (majority white) had it coming to them at the dinner last night.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing our President Obama basically finally tell them to 'fuck off'! They deserved it 100 fold! And, I'm white!! He is allowed to show them the disrespect they've shown him all these years. Was even more fun watching the crowd not quite understand him or his humor.
Love the guy to pieces and think he has done an outstanding job in spite of the assholes!
Obama pledges allegiance to Abu Bakr al Baghdadi
ReplyDeleteand the Islamic state
Not the United States of America
Impeach him and try him for treason
Wheeeeeee....happy times....you must be blissful in your ignorance!!
DeleteYou just never get tired of strutting your stupidity, do you, you pathetic traitorous moron?
DeleteWhat caused you to crawl back out from under your rock?
Oh, I see a few drool rag users got through the comments. Hey, frontal lobotomies and EST are free under Obamacare. Free is Good.
ReplyDeleteLoved the POTUS'S comments, he and FLOTUS are pure class. The Trumps? Not so much. Bankrupt and always look like they need their binkies and blankies. They get dissed, and keep showing up, as if that'll change anything.
I love the lounge, with the dogs sharing a big bed and basketballs being pumped up. That is a relaxed, lived in room where everyone is comfortable. Even the dogs.
ReplyDelete
