Wal-Mart is actually forced to make an official statement that there are no tunnels underneath their Texas stores being used by President Obama to take over the state.

Courtesy of TPM:

"There’s no truth to the rumors," Wal-Mart spokesperson Lorenzo Lopez told TPM via email.

The tunnels are part of a series of conspiracy theories surrounding "Jade Helm 15," a military training operation set to take place later this year in seven Western states. The conspiracy theorists have said the operation may be part of a covert attempt to takeover Texas and other states.

In response to the theories, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) last week issued an order for the state guard to monitor the U.S. military — a decision he defended on Monday.

Theorists have suggested that five Wal-Mart retail locations were shuttered abruptly because of Jade Helm 15. They have suggested that the closed stores, one of which is located in Texas, will serve as "food distribution centers" and will be used to "house the headquarters of invading troops from China, here to disarm Americans one by one."

Another theory suggested that there was already a system of underground tunnels below the closed Wal-Marts.

Whoa Nelly Texans are stupid.

I mean if you are relying on Wal-Mart to be the voice of reason for your state, you really have a serious problem.

Last night Jon Stewart rather hilariously addressed this ridiculous conspiracy theory as well.

  1. Dunno. I'm still trying to figure out why "the US" wants to "take over Texas". Aren't they already part of the US? I'd say I'd like them to secede - and good riddance to bad trash - but I actually know quite a few Texans I like. So...

Holy Moly those people are lacking in the ability to reason. Tunnels under the Wal-Marts? What are they connected to? Other Wal-Marts? To any military installations where the troops might come from? Did anyone ever see these tunnels being built? It isn't as if such an ambitious amount of tunnels could be dug and built in the Texas countryside without causing A LOT of TALK. OMG we are in trouble here.

Uh yeah. I used to have a neighbor who swore he heard "things" under the ground - like roads with big trucks - and he and his wife would lay on the ground and listen. THey also thought the reason for climate change (when they werent denying it) was "rockets punching holes in the atmosphere." Scariest part? he and his wife got to vote.

  8. It is long past time for someone to publicly state that the emperor has no clothes. I want to see Walmart put out a press release that starts out "Are you morons fucking insane?"

I want to read that a host on one of the Sunday morning gasbag shows looked right at a guest spouting this craziness and asked them if they realized that what they were saying made no sense, was stupid, and was also wackaloon crazycakes.

I want to read that every host, debate moderator, anchor, commentator, and pundit actually listened to their guests, gave them The Look, and then told these guests that they did not have time to listen to crazy stupid nutballery and that if the next thing out of the guests' pieholes was not sane, lucid, and intelligent, then the show was over.

Remember under Bush when even suggesting that invading Iraq may not be the best idea meant that you didn't "Support the troops"? Now these people are openly accusing our troops of being complicit in a scheme for America to invade America(??). Seriously, if President Obama actually were enacting the Jade Helm 15 in the vein that these consipiracy nuts believe, not only would the Joint Chiefs be involved, but people all the way down the chain of command would be too. Certainly at least one of these individuals would be a good old 'Merican who would have actual proof and expose the plans.

Oh, and Wal*Mart would have to be complicit too. What would they have to gain? Don't they sell guns and ammo?

Yes, they do grow 'em stupid in TX, where stupid is serious business - just ask their state education board about that. Were I in the Walton's position, I couldn't have resisted the fun of adding a little fire to the stupid - you know, something subtle (or not), like sending a crew to build a twelve-foot chain link fence with razor wire around at least one of the stores, then if asked, deny knowing anything about it. These paranoid fuckheads make for such precious comedy I hate to see it fade. And I'm still hoping for a power blackout during Jade Helm - Texas has earned it.

You know the dumbest thing about the Greg Abbott, Ted Cruz, Ron Paul, Chuck Norris conspiracy theory that Obama and the U.S. Military want to "take over" Texas? The belief that they could actually do anything to stop it even if it was true. (The second dumbest is the belief that anyone would WANT to take over this confederacy of dunces.)

That's the same level of idiocy that believes the Second Amendment is a protection against the U.S. government rather than against marauding Redcoats and Indian attacks. Sorry, guys, but AR15s wielded by old fat White guys with free fishing licenses don't stand up all that well against Hellfire missiles and F35As.

  22. Why is the US military conducting these exercises outside of military bases, anyway?

Any environment they need exists on a military base somewhere in the country -- a neighborhood, power and industrial plants, schools, airports. Why is the military taking to civilian areas for their exercises?

I'm skeptical of the whole thing, and I'm glad I don't live in a state where they are taking place. I don't believe the army has tunnels under closed Wal-Mart stores, but I'm a little surprised that liberals are so quick to mock and bash the people objecting to the presence of the US military in their communities.

I'm not willing to call Gov. Abbott a whacko for wanting state officers to monitor the goings-on. If it were happening in my state, I'd want the same thing. My reasoning might be a bit different, but I'd definitely want someone other than the military watching out for the free citizens of the US when the US military is operating in our neighborhoods.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh, please. These exercises have been going on for decades and they cover a lot more area than bases because in the real world, battles, strategy, tactics, and fighting are not confined to defined, fenced-in small scale operations.

Right now, many of our military operations are in the Middle East. If we were at constant warfare with the Swedes and Norwegians, these exercises would be happening in the northern reaches of the US.

The military is not suddenly "taking to civilian areas" for these exercises. They have been doing these exercises in exactly the same way for many decades.

Why haven't the present pack of lunatics in congress been ranting about them all along?

      Delete
    2. Anonymous4:22 AM

Calm down, Jill. These are annual exercises so there is nothing to be alarmed about. President Obama is not going to do you any harm. And yes, Gov. Abbott is an idiot and so is Ted Cruz. People in power who know better should not go around fanning the flames of hysteria. Sit down, relax, watch another episode of the Kardashians and chill - that's my advice to you.

As a liberal, I know that military exercises have to be done. Would I prefer that the military budget be greatly reduced so we could have more money for health care and education? Of course. But we liberals do not run the whole show, now, do we?
