An Iowa mall cop — with a Facebook account loaded with open-carry and right-wing memes and photos of multiple weapons — is under arrest for shooting and killing a fellow mall worker because she filed sexual harassment complaints against him.
Police say that the 22-year-old Kozak left the mall and went to his home and retrieved a 9mm Glock handgun before retuning (sic) and shooting Farrington late Friday night..
KCJJ reports that a cousin of Farrington’s said that Kozak had been harassing the victim for at least six weeks and that she had complained to his superiors about unwanted advances he had made toward her.
“They both worked at the Coral Ridge Mall and knew each other through the Coral Ridge Mall,” Johnson County Attorney Janet Lyness said. Kozak had worked at the mall since 2014.
He may have been born free, but now that he has decided to use a 2nd Amendment solution to solve his problems, that freedom is going to be a distant memory.
That is the problem with guns, They put the power over life and death into the hands of people who are simply unable to handle the responsibility.
This was an insignificant little man, who felt so empowered by the weapons that he owned he was convinced that his sexual advances would be irresistible.
When he learned that was not the case, he simply used his gun to do what it was designed to do.
Take a human life.
When these idiots do this (it's beginning to be so commonplace!), they should be brought out before the nation and shot at sunrise. This bullshit has to stop! Our gentle justice system is NOT working!
ReplyDeleteExplain that theory to African-Americans.
Deletethis is what makes workplace sexual harrassment have a frightening element to it -- can't stay safe in the presence of your harasser.
ReplyDeleteThis is what makes being a woman frightening. We are supposed to be nice and accepting to "romantic" advances, smile, and keep quiet. Let the guy down easy so his feelings won't be hurt. And so he won't throw acid or gun us down later. Of course, the vast majority of rejected men won't retaliate, but most women have been yelled at, cursed at, and insulted after refusing an unwanted advance at one or more time in their lives.
DeleteAll men should be castrated that do these type things! It should be made the law of the land and then I'll bet they stop these type actions. America needs to get tough!
Delete"An armed society is a polite society," right NRA? When are they going to get that arming everyone gets innocent people KILLED, not invited for tea? Do they really not care that Americans are dying, many of them under five years of age?
ReplyDeleteAre they so greedy that mentally ill people being armed to the teeth is not a concern? Does it take a death in one of their own ignorant families for them to get the point?
That's just it -- THEY DON'T CARE. No, not even if it took out one of their own family members. They just shrug and accept that as unavoidable collateral damage.
DeleteYou just know that some blow back is going to be the same old stupid (insane) bullshit that it's the woman's fault for not carrying concealed so that she could have gunned him down before he gunned her down.....because, freedom dontchaknow
ReplyDeleteIt's her fault for filing the sexual harassment case, obviously. She should have been flattered and maybe even given the guy a chance.
Delete/sarcasm
I don't say this often enough - THANK YOU for continuing to post these kinds of stories! Your commentary is always spot on!
ReplyDeleteI don't say this often... AMEN!
DeleteMe, too.
DeleteThese stories just make me sick....it's like the Wild West, between these gun nuts and the police...WTF? I swear, electing a black man has brought this country to it's knees. The NRA went nutz when he was elected and the sale of weapons went up to never before levels. They spewed their bullshit non stop thru Fox about Obama taking away your guns. After Sandy Hook....that was the key, nothing passed when the entire country wanted new laws, it proved that our politicians are bought & paid for. This country has become the scariest place to live. You never read about someone protecting themselves from criminals...its always this or some child killing themselves or a sibling. I am still wanting a mandatory insurance policy for every gun. The federal government collects the money to give to grieving families or any innocent victim medical bills. Make bullets $1,000 a piece and pay high insurance...fuck the gun makers. Between the immoral wars and private buyers...the billionaires of today make nothing but death.
ReplyDeleteright on Sharon. Like this idea.
DeleteWow! Let's DO it!
DeleteElliott Rodgers felt the same way, and a year-plus ago "solved" his social problems the same way. Only Rodgers then took the coward's way out.

I am so fortunate. The church-going family man who supervised me temporarily lost his job when I complained about the molestation and continual harassment... both he and his son threatened to kill me, he drove a pickup with a gun in the rack, and he knew where I lived (very isolated). The County Board of Supervisors reinstalled him, and I survived his continual harassment (and the tripled workload for complaining) until my doctor pulled me out.
ReplyDeleteI survived.
So my heart goes out to these women who are afraid to complain, and those who do and continue to live in fear. But especially to the victims who are abducted or killed simply for exercising their right to say NO.
For too many decades, our bodies have been regarded as a perk of the office for the men. Wrong. Our bodies, our minds, and our free will are ours alone.
WHEN will we pass the Equal Rights Amendment?
So sorry you had to endure such abuse!
DeleteI can only imagine what you endured. I try to put myself in other's shoes and words fail sometimes. "One Nation With Liberty and Justice for All". What part of that do they not get?
DeleteLocal paper reports on the open carry gun nut:
ReplyDelete"A post on Kellie Kozak’s Facebook page detailing a visit to Costco in which her husband was apparently carrying a sidearm indicates the pair are strong supporters of the Second Amendment. Ken Kozak said his son-in-law was responsible with weapons.
“If circumstances were that it’d be best not to have a weapon present, he didn’t have a problem with that,” he said. “He didn’t brandish one around or anything.”
Facebook posts from Alex Kozak make references to the Armed Services and weapons. On May 28, he shared a photo containing the text, “I am a born free, gun toting, Constitution loving American.”
A photo album on his Facebook page titled, “My Toys” contains more than a dozen images of knives, swords, a gas mask, a copy of the book, “The Anarchist Cookbook,” and other weapons. One blade is stamped with the text, “One Shot One Kill.”
A woman who answered the door at the couple’s North Liberty apartment Saturday said “there’s a lot of misinformation out there” but declined further comment."
Which is much more useful info than the papers usually provide. Unless the person is a minority.
Google says the Iowa Governor issued a statement:
"DES MOINES — Gov. Terry Branstad said Monday he was saddened by a fatal shooting incident last Friday at the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville and offered his sympathies to the family of Andrea Farrington, who was shot and killed by a mall security employee Friday night.
“The lieutenant governor and I wish to offer our deepest condolences” to Farrington’s family and friends, the governor said at his weekly news conference."
also
" The governor noted that he recommended legislation last session to toughen Iowa laws dealing with stalking offense and said he continues “to believe that we need to do all that we can to try to protect people against stalking and domestic abuse and these kinds of activities.” He said he did not want to prejudge the situation and would see whether details arise from the investigation “that may shed light on legislative action that can be taken in the future.”"
GUNS don't kill people, PEOPLE kill people
ReplyDelete...and guns make it really REALLY easy for people to kill people.
Thanks for sharing these with us. I was a child of the late fifties, and when I grew up, men were men and used words first, then, at the most, fists to settle their testosterone macho man displays. Yeah, there were a few "accidental" deaths from falling and hitting a noggin on a brick wall, or a utility pole, but people cooled their heels, and a few weeks later they were back to being somewhat "civil".
ReplyDeleteWhen a gun is available, all bets are off and the fight is anything but fair. Now we're seeing people stalking women because they don't understand "No means No" and killing them because the second amendment gives them the right to take another's life. The gun worshipers are so desensitized and brainwashed toward violence as the answer to everything, and it's not.
I fear it'll get a lot worse and my heart aches for the next generation. If you're going to own a gun, be a responsible and sensible gun owner. Do whatever it takes to make a gun the weapon of last resort.
And now, like it or not, Kozak is likely to be somebody's 'property' in prison and will have no firearms to combat his own sexual harassment. Even a mall cop's cherry has to be some prestige real estate behind bars. Sometimes, justice is poetic.
