Joni Ernst claims that US troops are ready and willing to fight a new war in Iraq.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

“I am not ready to put ground troops in, but I think we are coming to a juncture where we will have to make that hard decision,” Ernst argued.

“How would you tell those military families, again though, when so many have fought, so many have died, how do you say we’re going to go back again?” Karl wondered.

“We haven’t made that determination yet, we will have to make a decision at some point,” the Iowa Republican replied. “But having served in the Middle East, I see a need at some point. If we don’t get this situation under control, ISIS will continue to spread.”

“And I think most of our service members understand that, and I think many of them are ready to go back,” she continued. “If that call comes up, they are going to answer that call.”

Yes our troops will answer the call, but they are certainly not "ready to go back."

Some of our soldiers have endured four and five tours in Iraq or Afghanistan, and if they are not suffering from PTSD yet, than they are only one more tour or so from suffering that fate.

Human beings are not designed to live under constant stress and fear of death without risking the loss of their sanity or their humanity.

As for Jodi Ernst she may have received the combat veteran status since she was deployed to a combat zone, but she herself did not experience any actual combat as her job was to run supply convoys not engage in fire fights.

So for her to make a blanket statement concerning what soldiers are, or are not, ready to do is incredibly disingenuous.

If we send our troops back into Iraq to fight an enemy that once again we helped to create, we will be sending possibly dozens if not hundreds more of our people to die on the sands of a foreign land whose people do not want us there, to end a conflict that has literally been going on, in one form or another, for over a thousand years

I guess we should be really glad that Joni Ernst is not the president.

I am so sick of these warmongers. Ernst is lockstep stupid
and probably seriously in bed already with defense contractors. Her and Tehran Tom gross me out.

And what the hell is this thing with the media talking
to crazy wingnut freshman senators and elevating their asses? Cruz, Paul, Cotton and Ernst.

(Actually--I know what it is. I call it the Obama effect. No matter how crazy and unpalatable they are, they think if Barack Obama can be president, so can they).

4 or 5 deployments?! I don't know where you get your "facts" but many soldiers have been deployed well over that, many 8 or more times.

Typical Republican.... "We" need to go back into Iraq (meaning YOUR kids, spouses and friends, not mine. I gotta stay here and pull down 175K per year to not do the job I worked so hard to get).

4:13 No, it is the G.W. Bush affect. If a doofus like Georgie gets installed into our WH TWICE, then anyone can as long as they are repubs. Sending troops back into HELL is not a tough decision as long as their kids are not remotely in danger of going. Does she get those wigs at the same place George Will gets his fake "hair"?

Cons love war. They love being in war. It benefits them financially. The picture of GWB in that flight suit with the gigantic cod piece made them weepy with pride. Bombs dropping, guns firing and spilled blood gives them that patriotic WW2 feeling that they desire.

The U.S. will NEVER solve the problems in the Middle East with war. EVER.

Why do the Teabags think we should be more concerned about Isil's theoretical potential to kill Americans on our soil than we are about the Teabaggers who are actually killing Americans on our soil?

Beheadings and car bombs make for better TV than people quietly dying preventable deaths, but dead is dead, and the Teabags are a proven and active threat to the lives of Americans in their own homes. Unfortunately for Americans, until The Guardian implements a daily counter for dead Americans killed by denial of health care, no one is likely to bring it up.

Not to mention the people, including children, killed by the NRA and GOP's precious guns every damn day. In America. Land of the Free. Presumably.

    Sheesh...
    War-mongering Republicans...

In '41 our CIA installed Mohammad Reza Pahlavi as the Shah in Iran and WE armed Iran "to stabilize the region."
Then, in '79, because the Shah turned out to be a ruthless, crazy bastard, there was the Iranian revolution and the Ayatollah Khomeni was democratically elected
    - but we didn't LIKE him, so we put Saddam Hussein into power in Iraq - and gave them arms - to "stabilize the region".
In the '80's, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan - so we armed the "freedom fighters" there (who eventually became Al Qaeda).
George W. Bush invaded Iraq in the early 2000's and we armed the Iraqi Army (who became ISIS).

Also, too - in '49 (or thereabouts - I'm not looking this up as I go, I'm just going from memory) we pushed the Palestinians off of their land and created the nation-state of Israel.
    And we armed them.
Not just with guns and tanks, but with fighter jets and bombers.

    ..."to stabilize the region".

60-some years of "stabilizing the region" with arms
and look at that area of the world.

...when are we going to learn?

Who is this "we" she is talking about; her and that turd in her pocket? Only the President can send troops. The Senate cannot send troops anywhere.

This woman has a hell of a lot of nerve!

We already spent ten years over there, costing us trillions of dollars and most importantly, losing thousands of our brave troops, and all we proved is that this is an impossible war to win in the long term.

And she wants to send more troops over there? These warmongers have learned nothing!

This isn't World War II anymore. There isn't a country on the map called ISIS-Stan that you can invade, defeat, force to surrender and then come home to a ticker tape parade.

Thank God it isn't up to her at all. Thank God we have a president who knew enough to be opposed to the Iraq War when everyone else was for it. This is why it's vital that a Republican doesn't win the presidency in 2016. Or else we will be fighting wars in Iran, Iraq and God knows where else.

I'm not saying we ignore ISIS. But we have to fight them smartly. Just blindly sending in 100,000 troops isn't the answer here

  15. Where does this pig castrating drag queen get off telling us jack?
You will only be known as the camo shoe lady with the smarts of a bread bag, Joni Ernst. "Can you tell us what we have accomplished over there so far?"
    Peace, stability.....nah. I thought so.
Go make your fortune some other way. Like your horrific combat memoirs.

With no draft, the troops are a very small political force for the right wing to contend with. There will be no marches on Washington as there were during Viet Nam.

While there are many other important considerations to deal with, regarding the election of the next President--

--the one standing like Godzilla over the city, is that we will be deciding whether or not to start World War Three.

I can only hope that Democrats realize that, and get to the polls in force; as well as some non-puppet Republicans who see the distinct possibility of electing a moron with the mindset of Ernst, leading us to worldwide destruction.

Hey, Joni, I appreciate your "service", but it looks easy from the outside looking in, the job you're gunning to get. But having dealt with Veterans, I can assure you they're in no race to go back to war. When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Don't quit your day job neutering pigs, your services would be more well served home side.
Where did this everlasting blood lust come from?
