Look I don't want to tell anybody how to raise their kids, but I would take that cellphone away for at least a week.

So it appears that Piper, who just recently turned fourteen, is learning to drive.

However I cannot imagine why anybody would allow this child to start her driving education with a cellphone balanced precariously on her lap.

In fact if this were my child that cellphone would be left at home until she successfully returned from practicing. And if they snuck it out with them, then I would do exactly what my headline says I would do.

But hey, that's just me. I care if my child lives of dies.

Both my kids learned to drive at age 11 by driving the tractor and dirt bikes. At 14 they got their learners permit. If I had ever caught them driving with their cell phone out - let alone in their lap! I would have taken the car privilege and cell phone away from them until they proved they were responsible. I'm shocked the Palins let this photo stay up.

Yeah about that hand placement- if the airbag in the steering wheel goes off she's going to eat that left forearm.

In all 50 states. It is illegal for anyone 14 and younger, to drive a vehicle.
At 15 you can drive AFTER you obtain a learners permit and ONLY with a licensed driver sitting next to you in the drivers set.

So what you did was illegal.

Operation of motorcycles, 4 wheelers, cars, trucks and agricultural equipment is not prohibited on private property generally and PARTICULARLY when it is on a farm.

Shocked? The Palins don't follow the rules. Ever. They are better than anyone else. They are smarter. Richer. And if someone gets hurt or killed? Oh well. Anyone who cared about this girl would make sure she took driver's ed at school, had plenty of practice with a certified instructor, and then was allowed to cart her no account sister around. In MI, you cannot even take Session One until you are 14 and a half. Then you drive for at least six months with a responsible adult, no distractions, and no other people in the vehicle. THEN you pay to take session two, and finally get your license at 16. Why do I think this Palin will have as many tickets as the rest of them?

      Delete
    15. Anonymous4:17 AM

But isn't the age 14 permit only to be distributed in cases where these CHILDREN are applying for a "hardship license"? The way I understood it was that kids whose parents work long hours (I'll pause a moment for raucous laughter) can get a hardship license with the proviso that they only drive "to and from school, no passengers, or in a true emergency".

Can just any old 14 year old get behind the wheel there? My 14 year old cousin just stopped sleeping with a stuffed animal last year, for dog's sake.

Don't tell the people downstairs, but I started driving when I was eight years old. I sat on my dad's tool box, and he would let me drive all the time on county roads.

By the time I was 14, I had been driving for six years, and could drive circles around my friends, male or female. The day after I got my permit, I drove my grandmother, in her 1965 Chevy Impala V-8, to a doctor appointment in Little Rock, 150 miles away.

I still love to drive a car. Thank you, Daddy!

Who's the woman in the passenger seat who's paying attention to Piper's every move, to help her learn?
In Massachusetts, where one gets a permit at 16, a licensed adult driver must accompany the learner until he or she qualifies for a license. That doesn't mean the adult gets to pose for a selfie with her mouth open like a frog.

And teenagers are required to take driver's ed classroom courses -- my daughter learned a lot, and, among other things, has changed many a tire over the years, while male companions were looking for cell phone reception up in the mountains.
In our state, cell phone calls and texting are illegal. Is Alaska that scared of regulations, or is Piper ignoring the law?

Put a public service announcement in the newspapers if you want to know if the roads are safe in Alaska or you want to know what the authorities are doing in this situation to make the public safe. It is something that should be checked out. The Palins would lie and say it was private property. Still reports should be made.

What about the tourists? If kids and possibly drunk ones and cell addicts are on the road, they do cause a deadly threat to people who want to visit beautiful Alaska and spend money there.

Sarah and her family are progressing Alaska. Is this how they bring revenue to the state?

I doubt that Piper is the only teen attached to their cell phone that is driving. I doubt this is the first for Piper. Bristol looks lit and she just had to do a selfie.

If the authorities are lazy this may happen all the time and they do nothing. The public really should inquire and give authorities reports. All the times the Palins are spotted contributing to the delinquency of a minor or any of that. (brawl anyone?)

It would be good to have an accumulation of all the times they look up to no good and are putting other lives in danger.

When someone dies or hopefully only injured everyone will be glad there are reports. It will also show if the authorities took any action.

Where I am the police monitor social media. They welcome anonymous tips.

Piper is a Palin. I would be concerned she will be drinking or on something while driving.

I know people would make a stink in some places if they thought a public nuisance with potential danger was ignored by the powers that be.

It is no big deal to make a report or call agencies that should deal with this. Some you can do anonymous. It just depends on how strong people feel about the threat.

Think the well has run dry for this grifting family. Soon they will have to face the fact that JOBS are necessary. Bristles seems to have decided on a career in soft porn. Since most of the guys in Alaska have seen all there is to see with her, Marina will have to export any videos of Bristles. She will find out there is lots of competition out there, better looking, and more talented.

Uhm what is it with the weather up there, or could it be AZ, but it seems that there are strange microclimates that are only a few feet wide. Bristol is in a heavy, long sleeve sweat shirt, while Piper is dressed practically for the beach. Or is someone having trouble regulating body temp?

All I know is that the newspaper weather predictions for Anchorage and Fairbanks today (6/15) were far higher than here in northern Michigan - where it hit at least 70 degrees. (As a retiree, I have the time to check high and low temperatures in the paper every morning while I eat breakfast. I usually limit myself to places around the world and here in the US where we have been or know people. Alaska get added in because of the blogs like this one!)

I grew up in NY state, where we had to be 16 before we could get a learner's permit. When I did get it, my parents were extremely strict about the rules. We didn't have cell phones back then, but we weren't allowed to listen to the radio or chat. After a while, when I got better (months after I started driving), I was allowed to drive with my siblings in the back seat. There was no goofing around. My parents took it seriously because when you're driving a car, you are driving was could easily be a killing machine. And when you're 16, you don't always concentrate as well as you should and you don't always make the best decisions.

Once again, Sarah shows herself to be a complete failure as a mother, think she's being cute and funny by allowing Piper to joke around behind the wheel (and for not insisting Piper separate herself from her phone while she's driving).

We had a healthy respect for a vehicle that weighed however much a Chevy Imapala weighed back then. We didn't have cell phones, but we weren't allowed to smoke, eat or converse while driving. Any distraction, even a pre set radio w/buttons was off limits.
Here we have a teen behind the wheel, and an "adult" in the passenger's seat with a selfie stick making faces. Why do people post this crap in public? How's a teen to learn the skillset to drive safely with a cellphone in her lap and a thwunk looking the other way??

Having to save for the insurance is a good idea because it reminds kids that driving a car is a serious matter and can be costly - insurance bills, accident repairs and injury. Plus saving for the insurance means that the kids understand that it's an expensive undertaking -- all that freedom.

      Dear Bottom,

Where are all the statements about a cell phone on the lap being illegal? How do you know who would post saying cell phones are illegal when on a lap? If that is what has been said, it could be from a palinbot that is making false claims to distract from the fact that Bristol is sending a message with her above photo.

IMO, I don't think this is about illegal or not as far as one Instagram message photo statement is concerned. No one knows unless it is investigated by the Alaskan authorities and they can determine if something is illegal or not. That won't happen.

If Sarah has quit on Bristol becoming a political force (like when she was part of the power couple). At that time things were headed toward Bristol being politically savvy and a new PAC would be formed.

If Sarah has quit on Bristol having or being part of a PAC, this is just letting the public know that fantasy is over.

Bristol may have taken this selfie and posted it in her social media to let Sarah know she is not going to play Sarah's game of being a political contender.

Not even the parents of someone sending this message will look like they can control anything, the parents have obviously done a terrible job of raising kids and would be idiots to run on a family values ticket. None of the Palins have the brains to as much as explain wtf with Bristol's message of an irresponsible and vain baby sitter.

This honestly makes me so sad. While i was at the Augustus Brown Swimming pool in Juneau 2008, Piper was there who was a friend of my friend's child (same school /class). Well piper had wanted to get a ride home (to the mansion) from the pool. It was raining that day. After Piper borrowed my friends phone (coastguard wife who was offering the ride) Piper kept dialing number after number to almost no avail. She continued dialing numbers and i remember specifically the little girl saying, "tell mom to answer the red phone!". Finnnnalllly Sarah answers her youngest daughter's calls and said someone offered to give her and her friend a ride home. Sarah says, well why? They were psyched to walk! My friend said it was raining now and the girls didn't want to make the trek.

Sorry, long story. But the biggest thing that stuck out to me from that was Piper's inaccessibility to her mom via phone. And of course Sarah's lack of parenting skills.
