Sometimes I think certain people treat Ronald Reagan like they do the Bible. Pick and choose the portions they like, use that to defend their personal prejudices, and ignore anything that might undermine their faith in the sources inerrancy.
Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

I remember all eight years of Reagan's term. He would be considered a RINO today. He raised taxes 18 times. He gave amnesty to those here illegally. He also tripled our national debt. He pulled our guys out of the middle east when the marine barracks were bombed in Lebanon.
ReplyDeleteIt is a different and far more dangerous Republican Party we are dealing with today.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg!
DeleteAll of which simply means that we must tolerate no establishment of any NEW religion, because the Founding Fathers made us a conservative, God-fearing right wing theocracy already, dontcha know? There, problem solved and conservative heads live to explode on another day....
ReplyDeleteYou're right about one thing, Gryphen. I literally feel the same way about Raygun as I do about the Bible.
ReplyDelete"Sometimes I think certain people treat Ronald Reagan..."

Sometimes?! Just sometimes?
Gryph, you're giving them too much credit for actually reading the Bible or knowing anything about what Reagan (or anyone else) actually said. They just pick out a few catchphrases that seem to support their personal point of view and then fill in the rest with shit they made up or heard from like-minded people who made it up. The end.
ReplyDeleteThe tea party is the party of idolatry.
ReplyDeleteI never thought there would come a day when I pined for the Reagan brand of Republicans.
ReplyDeleteReagan Repubes? No. Eisenhower Republicans, yes.
DeleteWhen it comes to screech and Christianity, that was her trying to attract the xtian voting block. She picked and chose tidbits from the Reagan years, but again, like everything else, didn't read the entire book. Like willow said, why pretend to be something you're not. This person was anything but one who practiced xtian values. She represents the very worst in humanity and now that the ugly of her dark soul has revealed itself, she's made the teaparty and her followers look foolish.
ReplyDeleteReagan was a moderate in so many ways. He could never run as a Republican in this day and age.
ReplyDeleteThat grazing pertains to Reagan's views on guns too.
ReplyDeleteIf running today, he would never be elected.
This is what makes me laugh about the GOP today. Ever notice he's hardly ever mentioned, except by Sarah Palin, who'd hate him if he was a candidate today? They have Bush/Cheyney amnesia, even with another Bush to remind them. A quote like that from a Democrat would be pounced on in a second.
