Pastor and Christian researcher claims that this Sunday may see at least 400 church leaders resign due to Ashley Madison hack.

Courtesy of Christianity Today:

This week, I’ve already written a couple of posts on the Ashley Madison hack and information leak because pastors, Christian leaders, and families are facing devastating revelation and the after-effects of public sin.

Based on my conversations with leaders from several denominations in the U.S. and Canada, I estimate that at least 400 church leaders (pastors, elders, staff, deacons, etc.) will be resigning Sunday. This is a significant moment of embarrassment for the church—and it should be. To be honest, the number of pastors and church leaders on Ashley Madison is much lower than the number of those looking to have an affair. Yet, there is still much that we must consider in the midst of the embarrassment.

This Ed Stetzer guy, who wrote the article, is not some outsider reveling in the idea of the Christian church taking a huge blow due to either real or perceived adultery, he is very much an insider simply reporting on what he has been told by those caught up in this scandal.

Personally I think it would be amazing if even a quarter of this 400 were to resign due to their hypocrisy. I am not sure that will happen, but if it does it may force many in their congregations to start evaluating why they take their moral cues from such deeply immoral men.

You know I think I might just cancel my plans this Sunday and plant myself in front of the TV to watch a little Christian broadcasting.

God I love the smell of hypocrite flop sweat on a Sunday morning.

I would be surprised if any of them resigned. They simply announce, tearfully, that they have sinned but God and Jesus have forgiven them, and the congregation should too.

    1. That's what I was thinking.

They won't even admit to anything unless they are named and there is proof.

Deny, deny, deny, and when you can't deny any more, cry and ask forgiveness. Then it's business as usual.

Face it, anyone who sends money to these snake oil salesmen deserves to be fleeced. Please, PLEASE tell me Pat Robertson is NOT on the list. His adulterous son may be though. Smiling Joel Osteen might be one of them, someone is keeping that smile on his face. Wait, it is probably the CASH.

Why don't you want Pat Robertson on the list? That crazy bastard needs to go down. My hope is that all the ones on TV will be on the list! I want them all to lose their money and see how that works out for them.

I find it humorous that they're being sued,
Watch those suits be laughed out of court..

Reading through the comments on the article at CT is illuminating.

And how many pictures will there be of Sarah Palin with these other phony religious fundamentalists? Most of her cronies aren't pastors but experienced riders on the religious grift gravy train like Sarah.

And I wouldn't bet that Toad isn't on that list somewhere. All we need is someone interested enough in him or Sarah Palin to find out.... and that's the problem, nobody is interested in them. I've been reading The Rogue at bedtime and it works like a sleeping pill, Sarah is really not very interesting any more now that she's done.

'Ojala!' God's windmills or Karma, the loudest anti-lgbtq voices ranting how Marriage Equality can destroy the sanctity of traditional marriage will have ended up having their own personal lives shattered by their own behavior. Hypocrites all.

Imagine the hundreds of pastors that are banging the wives of their church members each week.

These preachers probably did not join AM.

      You are probably correct...

Church members wives, church secretaries, and sunday school teachers are a good resource for hot pastors...

But we know what happens when a Right Wing Christian Conservative when their appetite for sex is wetted...

I'm convinced that external resources out of the congregation would be needed to satisfy their needs...

      Ashley Madison!

So many church leaders have committed adultery. It happened in my congregation about ten years ago and was made very public.

The preacher left the pulpit of his church after the affair was disclosed with a lady he was counseling in divorce of all things!

He is now preaching again in another church in our city, but it took a number of years before he was forgiven and allowed back to the pulpit.

There is no way the supposed 'christians' can live up to their teachings. They need to start acting like the sinners they are - just like everyone else. And, stop their high and mighty attitudes!

  10. The grown son of the President of Baptist University video taped catching his Bible Bigot Boss dad with his mistress during their sexy time rendezvous

....Keli Sewell is also employee of Baptist college in S. Carolina. She still works there (not for long) but he resigned months ago and the university covered up the adulterous affair.....so they could still do and say obnoxious things about gay marriage. 15. The Feds raided and shut down the gay hookup site Rentboy in the last week as well, and more than one commenter has alleged the timing suggests the fear of an Ashley Madison-style hacking that might expose an equal number of closet-case Republicans.

They think 400 will resign? I bet not 10% of that actually do. I'll also bet that 10 to 50 times as many were on the site.

I kind of knew something was amiss when Rand Paul said any government workers exposed by Ashley Madison shouldn't be prosecuted. One of those things that make you go "hmmmmm", After the Clergy Sex Abuse Scandal and mishandling by the Catholic Church and others, it wouldn't surprise me one iota if ministers get caught in the net of deception. But they'll use the "Magic Eraser" of sins, confess and promise to do better, "Get out of Jail Free" card so often used by the pillars of our community. If God can forgive them, then we should, also too!!! blah blah blah.

This time there's nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Not that it's right or wrong, just hypocritical.
