After a day of reporting the kind of news that I reported today I think I will close out with what has now become my favorite "Moment of Zen."

Alaska Governor Bill Walker and President Obama flying to Anchorage.
High five.
It makes me very nervous to see the President sitting in a small plane in Alaska.
The children's President
How could he not want to come back?
It is not only the children of Alaska who love him.
Sorry, always going to be my favorite part of the visit.
Last one, my karma is all repaired now.
Somebody sent me a link to the White House site with these amazing pictures and all day long as I reported on Franklin Graham's plan to create a theocracy, Sarah Palin's beg-a-thon, burned Planned Parenthood clinics, and Chris Christie being a giant ass, I knew that this would be the tonic to quell my aggravation, and calm my frustrations..

And do you know what? It worked like a charm.

This is a lovely post Gryph. I so love this man and the kindness he shown throughout his presidency. I also wish he could run again - for our sake - but I'm sure he needs a rest. Are you sure that he cannot run again after being "off duty" for four years? Of course, he probably wants a life with his family. His kids are still young and he has a wonderful future ahead I am sure. I'm so glad he got to Alaska to heal the hate caused by SWWNBN!

What an amazing President you Americans have. Can you envision Trump, Cruz or the rest of those clowns being so down to earth and so loving with the children?

You know, after all the crap that sickening palin family has thrown at him, he would treat them with respect and dignity if he met them. I hate those 2 evil bitches so much.

Yes, he would treat the imbecilic Palins like any other of his constituents. He has every characteristic that $P only imagines she has. That's why she hates him with such vibrant vigor. He is and always has been a man of dignity, intelligence and class while she could only rise to being a shameless, low class shit-stirring puppet for $$$.

I would bet that children don't respond to Trump, Cruz and the rest of the idiots in the GOP circus parade the way they do to President Obama. Adults can be fooled, and adults can fake a socially appropriate reaction, but you just don't fool kids.

They know if you genuinely like being around them or if you're just putting on a show, and they don't hide their discomfort when they sense you don't like them. President Obama has always had a special way with kids and always seems the most relaxed and happy when he's surrounded by them.

Have you noticed that we don't see a lot of pictures or video of the other candidates interacting with little kids? Romney and McCain always looked like they were holding something smelly whenever they were forced into a photo op with a child. Can you imagine how scared a small child would be if they looked up to see Donald Trump or Chris Christie reaching for them?

I'm really happy for Alaskans that Bill Walker is Governor and not Sarah Palin. Thankfully, the quitter-bitch did not have the state's highest office as a platform to spew forth her racist and AIP agenda. So for once, it's an occasion to celebrate the fact that she didn't hold up her end of the election bargain that she originally made to the state's citizens. President Obama is a great man and is a great POTUS. Our next POTUS has very big shoes to fill.

PBO may not be perfect, but he's pretty damn close, and he is the best president of my lifetime hands down. Just look at how he relates to his constituents (especially those little ones!). That and the ability to deal with our country's problems, deal with other countries and strive for peace and humanity are what we need in a leader. It's going to be very hard to find those qualities again, this election anyway.

Bristol Palin is too mentally challenged to understand that specially equipped limousines are flown by cargo plane for OUR President's safety. I'm glad our President visited the dog kennel. Now if John Baker and others would do right by their dogs and stop mixing Siberian Huskies with Alaskan Malamutes it would be even better. There's a reason they are two different breeds and the breeders should know this. Different breeds were selectively bred for a reason. An American Eskimo and a Pomeranian are also spitz-type breeds but that doesn't mean they should do the work of hauling a sled. Take back the true meaning of the Iditarod, which is to use a working Dog for what it's intended to do...not think you're some sort of genetic genius and create your own "designer breed".

  30. I'm reminded of the moment, early on in "Game Change," where Ed Harris as McCain remarks, "If this guy heals a sick baby, we're dead."

"the tonic to quell my aggravation, and calm my frustrations." We don't know that Obama ever healed anyone, but he has always had that calmative effect since his national rise in 2008. It has lost none of its power despite every ugly attempt by right-wingers to demolish the loyalty of those who believe in him. If the seeming ease with which Obama coaxes our optimistic outlook is more noticeable now, perhaps it's because we know we're closer to a time when he won't be there to raise it.

Our next president may indeed be a very good one too, but she's minimally possessed of this particular talent, and indeed has an abrasive side noted even by those waiting ready to vote for her.

Four years later, the Democratic National Convention in Denver reintroduced Senator Barack Obama, but this time as the nominee who would go on to be a hugely successful two term president. Unfortunately, his message of unity didn’t stick and Republicans reacted to his presidency with divisiveness, obstruction, disrespect and downright racism.

It would be nice if everyone would just take a breath and enjoy the moment, but to do so is to capitulate, to give in, to comprise. And there can never be that. Fault must be found everywhere and in everything.

Obama genuinely seemed to have enjoyed himself. The trip was good for him and good for Alaska. I don't imagine the trip changed the minds of the pray and hate folks. But hopefully, some negative opinions about the president were softened.

I keep hoping that with age will come wisdom, but I cannot come to terms with the 24/7 ugliness of conservatism. Just yesterday a neighbor told me he really thinks the president is a Muslim. There is no middle ground, no neutral territory. You have to be all in or not at all. And no, I don't believe extremism characterizes all conservatives. but I sure wish the moderates would stand up
