"I never thought I would meet the Pope," Davis said via her legal team. "Who am I to have this rare opportunity? I am just a County Clerk who loves Jesus and desires with all my heart to serve him."
The meeting is said to have occurred last Thursday, the same day Francis addressed Congress. Davis was in Washington for another purpose: She received a Cost of Discipleship award at the Family Research Council's Values Voter Summit on Friday night.
"Just knowing the pope is on track with what we're doing, and agreeing, you know, kind of validates everything," Davis tells ABC News Wednesday morning, speaking about her meeting with Pope Francis and the stand she has taken against same-sex marriage.
She adds, "I've weighed the cost, and I'm prepared to do whatever it takes."
Asked for comment Vatican spokesmen did not deny that the meeting took place.
You know all of my warm fuzzies about this Pope just dried right up now.
Either he is dedicated to helping to oppress the LGBT community, or he simply does not understand American law. But either way this is a huge screw up on his part.
And you have to know that this is going to re-energize support for Davis and reinvigorate her desire to be seen as a martyr to the cause of "protecting traditional Biblical marriage."
As I said on another thread here....he had me for a couple of seconds when he gave our "leaders" a little bit of a talking to. However, women have been outraged as he did not address their concerns and he clearly must think god made a mistake when he made gay people.
ReplyDeleteFool me once...
He's still the head of the Catholic Church.
DeleteHe's still a misogynist and a bigot and so is the Catholic Church.
Deleteso....he's still just a man as well
DeleteHe was a brilliant public relations choice by the Vatican to smoke-and-mirror their pedophile problems.
DeleteThe UK Guardian had an op ed on it this AM --
DeleteThe world has noticed.
Last three paragraphs:
If Francis was trying to portray an image of a pope that was floating above America’s culture wars, his apparent meeting with Davis puts him right back on the battleground.
Andrew Chesnut, a professor of religious studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, said the apparent meeting with Davis, coupled with his remarks on the plane, put the pope “squarely in the camp of conservative Christians in the US, both Catholic and Protestant, who believe their faith has been persecuted during the presidency of Obama”.
He added: “One of the great ironies is that Kim Davis’s Pentecostal faith has historically viewed Catholicism as an idolatrous abomination of Christianity. In the pope’s Latin America, one of the first things many Catholic converts to Pentecostalism do is to make a bonfire to incinerate their Catholic ‘idols,’ such as the saints and Virgin Mary.”
Barbara, I just knew this was all Obama's fault. The great persecutor! When he lives a more Christian life than the whole lot of them.
DeleteNewt Gingrich must be fuming! He has been married 3 times and converted to Catholicism, yet no private meeting with the Pope!! Does Davis have some kind of spell she casts over men, I wonder? Mybe she waves that $80,0000 a year paycheck around as she trolls the bars.
DeleteOh, and one more comment (thanks for pointing this out Gryphen), thanks a lot holy father for stirring up more hatred and stupid shit in our country...

DeleteAgree! When I heard this on the news this morning my first thought was---how could he meet with this hateful, egotistical woman. She acts the opposite of what I believe Jesus teaches. I'm not Catholic and any kind thoughts I might have had regarding the Pope are now gone FOREVER.
Delete10:24 - Really? He also met with criminals. Maybe he sees them in the same category.
DeleteThat is funny, because just 4 short posts ago Gryph thought Obama was the bees knees meeting with the pope...

DeleteYeah, I'm kinda thinking that Davis heard what she wanted to hear and ignored any other sane and responsible words the Pope had to say.
DeleteBut I'm basically pissed he met with her at all.
I think she's lying again. Like the Peruvian prayer circle.
ReplyDeleteI agree. There were reporters following his every move. If he had met with her they would have known.
DeleteI agree. Until I hear it from the Pope's mouth I ain't believing it. She and her doofus husband are known liars.
DeleteIt was supposed to be for 15 min. in the afternoon at the Vatican embassy. Not sure where that fits into his schedule.
DeleteUnless the Vatican confirms both the meeting and the CONTENTS of that meeting, I'm not believing any thing Davis or her lawyer say. Not only do they have selective hearing they also just make stuff up.
He should have kept out of this one. Better he had fired all the bishops- how much more handwringing vs serious action over the sex abuse scandal do we need to endure? Oh and let women become clergy, though who would want to?

DeleteYou are comparing Angelina Jolie who works to help children all over the world with this shithead whose claim to fame is using her elected government position to deny the civil rights of citizens?
DeleteHe meets with a lot of people = the point. He met with her while she was promoting her Christian movie. Do you all not follow the news?
DeleteBy the way, he also met with male prisoners.
Look, I'm against Kim Davis, for separation of church and state, and not a Catholic. I'm glad KD joined the GOP. But to say this undid all of what the Pope did here is absurd. You all give Kim Davis way too much power. In a month, she will be nothing. She already is nothing.
I may be just one person but he undid everything I thought he was here doing to me.

DeleteI'm hoping Glenn Beck can debunk this one too.
DeleteI want to see pictures before I believe it happened. She says he gave her rosaries but why would he do that because she is not catholic. Her lawyers lied about a big rally in Peru to support her and I think they are lying again.

DeleteMy thoughts exactly: the pope happens to be a full-on coward.
DeleteIt has been affirmed by the vatican that the meeting happened! But such hypocrisy!
ReplyDeleteThe Catholic Church has never recognized secular marriages (like the ones KD issues licenses for in Kentucky). This woman has had several marriages and divorces and the pope agrees to meet her? How many other good Catholics did he turn down?
The first time I heard about this kerfuffle, I thought about the the bible passage, give to Caesar, that which is Caesar's and to God, that which is God's. The interpretation of this passage is to keep religion out of the political and governing circle. But the pope has stuck himself right in the middle of it with this meeting.
The marriage licenses in Kentucky should have the state or county seal on them, which makes them fully secular. KD needs to get out of the secular business, if she wants to practice religion.
I was feeling so positive about the pope's visit, but no more. Same ole, same ole. I married my ex in a county court house, just like the one where KD works. My Catholic family literally disowned me. My ex remarried for the third time, and later was able to marry in the "church" after his first wife died. Our marriage was nothing in the eyes of the church. So KD is pursuing an ultimate hypocrisy that will lead her to dance with devil. Politics and religion don't ever mix.
10 cats
I'm glad that I'm not a Catholic any more. This whole marriage license issue should never have happened. These are strictly secular licenses granting equal rights to LGBs.
I was feeling good as well about his visit and him speaking to congress with a few ideas they needed to hear.
DeleteNever again...
Was her husband at the meeting also, too? Did he wear his Hee Haw outfit? He may have told her to quit her job, bit keep the faith.
ReplyDeleteHere is the failure in Kimmie's logic, as well as that of the press, the repugh-licans and many others. OK, let's agree that she might be some transmogrification of a Conscientious Objector. If one is a CO in the military, that person realizes a career in the military is not for her/him, and they do not expect to stay in the military for 20-30 years and then draw a pension from the military. Kimmie is a county clerk CO. She does not agree with the county clerk mission much like the military person who is a CO. Thus, Kimmie you have a right to your prejudiced opinion. However, you should quit your job or be fired from your job. It is one for which you wholly lack qualification. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.
ReplyDeleteAnd Kim Davis instructed her deputy clerks to use defaced license forms and sign as notaries not as deputy clerks.
DeleteObject all you want, but don't force other people to break the law.
Fine. Let's just let "biblical marriage" be defined by the religious who believe that, but "Marriage" is not biblical, nor is the law.
ReplyDeleteThe opinions of the religious apply only to them, as they are the only ones who feel the desperate need to adhere to them, but for the rest of us, marriage is about forming a lasting union of love and a family (that should be defined as forming a life with the person you admire and trust the most). We all recognize the contractual aspect of it as well, so we should be able to have the same rules of engagement and disengagement if the relationship doesn't work out. Pope was an idiot to engage with this 3 times divorced bumpkin. He really did undo so much good.
Nicely said; and also, too, he was BS'd into the meeting by what was probably a biased story by the very conservative Papal Nuncio, whose residence Pope Francis stayed at while in Washington DC.
DeleteSeems the Papal Nuncio didn't tell the American bishops about this meeting either, and they're just a wee bit upset -- enough that they want to hustle the Nuncio out before his departure from the job in January.
The Pope met with Kim Davis. I am not impressed. So what.

Huff Post: Pope Meets With Dope!
DeletePope Francis did not focus on the divisive debate over same-sex marriage during his visit last week. As he left the country, he told reporters who inquired that he did not know Davis' case in detail, but he defended conscientious objection as a human right.
"It is a right. And if a person does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right," Francis said.
He doesn't know the details of the case. Some congressperson pulled some strings and told the Pope she is a conscientious objector and not a government employee using her position to deny other people their rights.
DeleteShe is not a conscientious objector.
Would the Pope say the same thing about a principal who keeps Black children out of school because he believes God doesn't want the races mixing? Is the principal a conscientious objector?
This Pope has done some great things, but he's still the head of a patriarchal religion that would deny rights to homosexuals and women.
DeleteStill, if the Pope knowingly dipped his pointy white shoes into this mess, he's a fool.
Pope Francis Palin the First!
DeleteI really don't think it was a meeting - more of a photo op. It is customary to have a short session where the visiting dignitary meets briefly with high ranking officials or members of Congress, etc. In all likelihood, she was brought along by some wingnut congressman or senator who introduced her and the Pope politely greeted her. He probably had no idea who she even was. This happens to the Dali Lama all the time, too. Then people go around saying they met with the Dali Lama. Technically they did, but it doesn't mean anything. I don't doubt the Pope gave her a couple of rosaries - he gave out a bunch of them while he was here. The reason his people say they "don't deny the meeting took place" is because he met a ton of inconsequential people during that session and she could have been any of them.
ReplyDeleteIf she had a "meeting" with the Pope," she could tell us what they "talked" about. What's that Kim? Nothing to tell us?
This is right. She got introduced by some wingnut as a "conscientious objector" and that's all the Pope was told.
DeleteHer lawyers are lying, sneaky, bastards and so is she.
I completely agree! It's easy to see that he is a polite and kind man.
DeleteI kinda think the Family Research Council "punked" the Pope on this one.
ReplyDeleteNo excuse but, yeah, Family Council pulled this one off.
DeleteIt was a tiny few minutes that they got past and I honestly don't think the Pope realized the whole story.
Meet and greet. Wonder how much $$ Family Council shelled out for this...
He's a world leader and a head of state. Surely his people are more sophisticated than....oh, maybe not.
DeletePope: Kim, I wanted to meet with you, dear, because I think that your stand is creating too much hostility and you're being a little intolerant in this situation. Plus it's the law of your land now.
ReplyDeleteDavis: What?!
Pope: Yes, Kim, I think it would be better if you resigned. Would you consider that for me?
Davis: What?!
Pope: Here's two rosaries, dear. Pray on it.
If the Pope did meet Davis, maybe it was because he wanted to have some version of this conversation with her. I'm not the least bit religious, but it's hard for me to imagine this particular pope wanting to meet with this hostile, intolerant woman to offer his support for her self-righteous stand.
Everything he did, every baby he kissed, and every speech he gave was to make a statement.
DeleteGiving five minutes to her with all the good catholics in this country that would have loved to have met him speaks VOLUMES!
I suspect (hope!) that the non-commital, "we do not deny that the meeting took place" tone the Vatican spokesperson has taken could be read as: "someone managed to pull strings in order to get this asshat past our security people, and the Holy Father doesn't act rudely to anyone." The detailed, flowery accounts of the meeting are all coming from her lawyer, not the Pope's people.
ReplyDeleteI'm still hoping by "private meeting" they mean "she was one of hundreds or thousands at X location".
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be the first time she and her "team" exaggerated something. That photo of her "support rally" which was actually just a crowd photo they stole from some event last year.
Please, please don't let this be true. I WANT my pope warm fuzzies. I want to keep them. But this will make ALL of mine dry up quicker than Sarah Palin's uterus.
Re your title... refusing to marry gay people is not the same thing as 'homophobic'.
ReplyDeleteAmen.
DeleteAnd I STILL don't believe it.
You can keep telling yourself that.

DeleteSweep your own doorstep, first, bitch, you are hardly a poster child for purity. Log/speck, KIM.
DeleteIt is a disingenuous statement. Gryph may get kicks by shaming and labeling her that way in a headline, but he loses credibility by doing so.

"Secret meeting" makes it sound as if they met behind closed doors when what it really means is that nobody knew it happened until they told everyone.
ReplyDeleteThe Vatican is not going to stick it's neck out for some dumbass fame whore in Kentucky who was just jailed for contempt for (ultimately) denying people their civil rights.
ReplyDeleteThe Pope may have been introduced to Kim Davis. He may even agree with her. But, in what universe would he have a "secret meeting" where he bestows special rosaries on her because of all the great things she's been doing?
Thank you. It's ridiculous how much hysteria is being spewed over this. The Pope can meet with whoever the fuck he wants to, doesn't mean he is somehow declaring gay people to be second class citizens. People really need to calm the fuck down. It's like reading a right-wing blog on this thread.

ReplyDeleteIF he actually spoke with her on purpose (unless to chastise her), it will douse his popularity and the good will he spread during his visit to the US.
She did it for publicity. Pentecostals wouldn't piss on a Catholic if they were on fire.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe it. Saying. "We do not deny it" isn't saying that the vatican confirms it. She could have been standng in the crowd when he drove by. The pope gave her rosaries, as in plural...more than one rosary? Yeah okay...

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/09/pope-francis-allegedly-met-with-kim-davis-what-does-it-mean/408166/
"Staver (Davis' attorney) said Vatican officials reached out to his offices before the pope landed in the United States and confirmed the meeting on Wednesday evening. He would not say which officials reached out to him. But he echoed a Vatican-like logic on how the meeting came about, and why it stayed private until now. “We collectively thought that it was best not to detract from the other broader messages that he had,” Staver said. “Had it been revealed even why he was here, he would have gotten a lot of questions about Kim Davis.”"
And, of course, the pope is beyond questioning! What a bag of puke the pope left in his wake.
DeleteSomeone please remind me again just HOW this woman and her marriage history/kids background aligns with what God/Jesus says? She's the new Sarah and Bristol Palin.

ReplyDeletehttps://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2015/09/30/how-did-8000-journalists-miss-meeting-between-pope-francis-and-kim-davis-easily
A week after his arrival, perhaps the biggest news of the visit emerged: Inside the Vatican — “News and analysis on the Church and the world” — published an account of the meeting on Sept. 24 between Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who’d been jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, and the pope. “It was, arguably, the most significant meeting, symbolically, of the entire trip,” writes Inside the Vatican’s Robert Moynihan, the magazine’s founder and editor-in-chief.
DeleteFranklin Graham on the 'TODAY SHOW' pushing his book about his FUCKING DADDY.
DeleteThe media dropped the ball on this one! But, perhaps it was done intentionally so as not to put a damper on the Pope's visit?
DeleteOff subject just a tad (although relatable) - did anyone watch the Anchorage Assembly meeting last night? I viewed the entire thing.
ReplyDeleteThe two members of the Assembly - on the extreme right - are Bill Starr and Amy Dumboski. Their sides of the issue LOST last night which was a true joy to witness.
Pushing their religious crap on the Anchorage population didn't go well.
Bill Starr reminds me of a guy I worked with year ago - he's truly impressed with himself as to his supposed (biased) knowledge, religion and most assuredly enjoys verbally demeaning his Assembly mates! He has no respect for others (or their thoughts, beliefs or experiences) and acts like nothing more than a spoiled brat! I truly don't understand how he ever got elected!
He obviously has zero tolerance for anyone that doesn't agree with him. And Amy, rants and raves about her religious beliefs, cries and gets emotional. Neither of them is mixing government and religion well and appear to not have the capabilities of doing so. They have picked their main topic to be religion and should not be serving on the Assembly!
It's amazing that either of them was elected to the Assembly. And, thankfully, Amy lost her bid in the run for Mayor of Anchorage. Mayor Ethan Berkowitz (Democrat) beat her handily! Thank the Lord!!
Alaska is slowly turning back to being blue and it's such a welcome. Next voting changes will come to the Alaska Legislature membership which has been majority Republican for way too long!
Is her name really Dumboski?
DeleteHer name is w/o the 'b', but I couldn't help myself!
DeleteI grew up Catholic and attended Catholic schools all through high school and my family members still practice the faith. It's all so typical. People greet a pope as though he is so wonderful and kind and good, but when it comes down to certain issues, it's the same old same old. And it always will be. Just because a pope or priest or nun exhibits a great deal of humanity in some regards doesn't mean that person is humane in all regards—so many of them would still, for example, allow a young girl to die in childbirth and call her special and so all sort of warm and fuzzy things about her sacrifice rather than do what would have saved her life. Many of those in the church, and certainly not those in power, will never really evolve beyond a certain point and the church will never really open up. There are just certain things that the church will always strictly adhere to no matter what. The pope made a comment while here about families not propagating like rabbits, but do we really think he meant that people should use whatever birth control works to keep that from happening? No, of course not. This pope is praising nuns in the US right now because the priests have so royally screwed up when it comes to sexual abuse and because American males no longer want be priests. The pope is facing the fact that females are what can possibly save the Catholic religion here in the States. That’s the only reason he’s being somewhat open-minded when it comes to females, nuns. The pope is no Einstein and I have to roll my eyes at the praise of this man that makes him out to be more than what he is. No matter his good qualities and his usefulness in making people generally be more humane toward one another, he is also very limited and no already-decent person has anything new to learn from him.
ReplyDeleteYes, all you said. Until he tells Catholics to feel free to control conception, and acknowledges that there are too many fucking people on the planet, I don't care a whit for him.
DeleteIf you want people to read what you write, break it down into paragraphs!!!!
Delete12:51, do you have a favorite font?
DeleteExcellent post...I read every word. You are correct about the shortage of priests in the U.S. I have heard the same from Catholic acquaintances.
DeleteThis Pope was my only reason for staying in the Catholic Church. I'm done now.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll take a second look at the Episcopal Church.
ReplyDeleteSomething the pope said in Phil. when addressing seminarians:
In the the seminary’s chapel, the pope spoke of the “unprecedented changes” that are having “social, cultural and, unfortunately, now juridical effects on family bonds.”
Wow.... I am seeing a whole lot of hate and pre-judgement on an issue about which NONE OF US know details. Lighten up, you guys. The pope’s handlers are probably the ones responsible for this meeting, if indeed it did happen, and it is very likely he knew little about her except what he was told by his handlers. And they, in turn, probably only knew what THEY were told by her lawyer or whoever arranged the meeting. The pope is a kind man, so I can see how he would have agreed to give KD a few minutes if he thought she was being persecuted, which is exactly how her lawyer &supporters are trying to spin her deplorable behavior.
ReplyDeleteThis pope is all about the dignity and rights of the individual person, and especially of the underdog. If KD was presented to him as a person who was being persecuted & publically slandered, his sense of justice would have been offended, so it’s not surprising he’d give her a few minutes and offer moral support.
The Catholic Church is an old monolithic institution, steeped in tradition. Don’t expect it, or its leaders, to suddenly change course on a dime. This pope is the most liberal pope I’ve ever heard of and the best thing that’s happened to the church in my rather lengthy life time. Change takes time, and he knows he can’t do everything at once.
Thank you! You said it way better than I could! The histrionics are ridiculous.
DeleteCorrect. From what I've read, apparently Pope Francis was convinced/conned into meeting with Davis and her husband at the behest of his very conservative host at the Papal Nuncio residence in Washington DC. And Davis/hubby were already in Wash DC for the Values Voter Summit, so no doubt it was cooked up between Davis' lawyers and the Nuncio.
DeleteUnless Francis does a lot of Googling on his own, his understanding of the situation was probably an abridged, altered, biased version of the Davis story.
KaJo, thank you for confirming my hunch!
DeleteObviously, someone wanted to get the pope "on record" as supporting KD's position. Or at least make it look like he did.

ReplyDeleteWho knows? Maybe the Francis Effect will strike again? It got Boehner to toss in the towel.
ReplyDeletePalin/Davis 2016!
ReplyDeleteSnort.
Confirmation of meeting:
ReplyDeletehttp://insidethevatican.com/news/letter-38-2015-kim-and-francis
The Pope performed an exorcism on Kimmie, trying to get the internal and external ugly out.
ReplyDeleteKimbo, you are such a fuck-up, you are almost as much of a fuck-up as the detestable Sarah Palin. Thank the lordy lord you never have and never will cause starbursts for the fellas, which was Sarah's only, very dangerous advantage.
ReplyDeleteThe reaction to this by non-Catholics and ex-Catholics was predictable.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Pope said people should be less materialistic and take care of the poor: "Oh, this Pope is so awesome."
When the Pope said we must do something about climate change. "Oh, this Pope, isn't he the greatest man!"
When the Pope rode in his Popemobile in DC, NY and Philly kissing babies all the way. "Oh, look at how this Pope is a Pope of the people!"
When he visited prisoners. "He has such compassion."
Those are all actions/positions that are completely consistent with Catholic doctrine
Then he visits with someone with a position that's completely consistent with the Catholic Church's position on gay marriage. And it's "Oh, this is it for me with this Pope. I'm done with him. What a loser. Fuck him."
Anyone who knows anything about Catholic doctrine knows the Catholic Church's doctrine on gay marriage and women priests, along with abortion and the death penalty etc will never change. Pope Francis, any Pope, can't change Catholic doctrine. Anyone who expected anything different had unrealistic, uninformed expectations to start with. He foreshadowed this in several of his US speeches when he talked about keeping a dialog going in spite of unreconcileable differences. I think the meeting with Davis was a reminder to Pres. Obama and others that the Catholic gay marriage position isn't going to "catch up to the rest of society" and Catholic doctrine isn't going to change.
In my opinion, it's unrealistic and immature to make a single issue of difference into a complete deal breaker.
I just heard her lawyer on NPR. He was very cagey: wouldn't say how the meeting was set up, how long it was ("I didn't have a timer"), or what was said. Very suspicious. And, as someone said above, Davis' religion is extremely anti-papist, so was a weird opportunist thing to do.
ReplyDeleteAre these the same "lawyers" that claimed 100,000 people in Peru camped out in support of Kim Davis, a claim which was rather quickly debunked?
DeleteI believe they had posted a picture of some other event, and claimed the event was to support her.
And now someone is claiming that she had a secret meeting with the pope?
Something smells.
Inside the Vatican magazine is a Fox News affiliate. Enough said.
DeleteTake one loooong look at her and her history.
ReplyDeleteWhat is she, the new Joe The Plumber?
Regardless of what was talked about in their meeting, secret meetings never have good endings. As we see now, because this was held in secret and initially denied by the Pope, we now have people thinking all sorts of things.
ReplyDeleteIf he was going to meet with such a divisive person he should have been open about it. But no, he did it in secret and nothing was said until he was out of the country. Big mistake by a Pope who had made such strides to bring people together.
Should have know he and his agenda were too good to be true.
"secret meeting" lol.
DeleteOh no doubt very heavy decisions and much forward planning was discussed in this top secret big players only meeting regarding theocratic takeover!
You IMers make too much of EVERYTHING.
Idiots. Nothing good or bad comes from the pope crossing paths with this lady and probably giving her a blessing. That is what the pope does. Idiots.
NOOOOOOO We tell the FUCKING TRUTH..
DeleteFUCK YOU..The Pope runs the SHOW..
You are the FOOL Idiot...
4:28 check all your seals, think you blew an O-ring.
DeleteHappens to limp wristed liberals when they get angry but are too dumb to even realize why. Go chill out with with a Mother Jones or Salon article, that will gently brainwash you back to your comfort zone.
remember when you went to the mall to see Santa? you would wait in line, and a elf would bring you over to the big chair for your "private" meeting, that lasted all off 30 seconds?
ReplyDeletethe elf would lean in, whisper your name to him..he would mumble some shit about whatever you had said to the elf, pat you on the head and hand you a candycane or a trinket. and send you on your way?
same shit, just change the names
drlager
Quite the comparison which makes one think!
DeleteSo Kim Davis met with a man who dresses like a participant in a 90's gay pride parade and is against gay marriage.. oooookay,,
ReplyDeletePope Francis wears the cross that belonged to an Iraqi priest who was wearing it when he was murdered by ISIS because of his faith. It's not a surprise this Pope would support someone who refused to go against their faith.
ReplyDeleteNo one is asking her to "go against her faith", people are asking her to do the JOB she gets paid to do and not to interfere with others doing their jobs. She does have the choice of not working at that job. No American citizen has to put up with discrimination from a government employee.
DeletePope "Who am I to Judge?" met with a homophobic bitch privately? Sounds kind of what I expected, yet he met with inmates who built him a chair, less one pedophile priest whom was moved to pittsburgh - wouldn't want to make Francis uncomfortable cavorting with a child molesting priest, but then "who am I to judge?"
ReplyDeleteDoes God like hypocrites?
Agree!
DeleteSEE THE TRUTH.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/pope-kim-davis-lgbt-catholics_560c3fcee4b0dd85030a720a
So let me get this straight: Her first marriage ended in divorce; she has two daughters by Dwain Wallace - but then conceived twins with lover Thomas McIntyre. Their relationship turned stormy - he called her a whore - and she obtained a restraining order because of 'violence' then married Joe Davis. But that ended in divorce and she returned to her 'violent' lover and married him - before divorcing him after a year and going back to Joe. Two of her weddings have been godless, with number three conducted by 'universal life church' minister and number four by a judge.
ReplyDeleteBlessed by Pope Francis? Gotta love those Catholics.
Sounds like a page out of Palin.
nah, I'm still not buying this. Those wingnuts would say anything.
ReplyDeleteAFAIK the Vatican said it will confirm or deny nothing and has no comment to make. How is that a yes?
4:51PM
ReplyDeletePay attention please. Here is the Vatican response.
http://insidethevatican.com/news/letter-38-2015-kim-and-francis
Is that blog really an arm of the Vatican? The owner/writer of the blog 'speaks' for the Vatican?
Deletedowl
This is NOT the Vatican's reponse. This is a private individual who writes about the Vatican and what might be going on there. And he writes from his own perspective, of course.
DeleteCorrect 9:46. Inside the Vatican magazine has no official affiliation with the actual Vatican. This story is total BS. There ar no photos or video of the meeting because it never took place.
DeleteI for one could not care less about anything the pope did or whom he met with. He's the pope, I'm an Atheist. I wouldn't expect to agree with anything he says or does but wow, there are some Atheists and Agnostics that seem very butthurt over the pope meeting with this cretin. I still don't understand why we non-religious people might care what he does. He's just the head of a fake sky fairy sect...has no special powers or even any special insight, just a dude that happens to be in charge of a cult. Wow, big deal? Not.
ReplyDeleteBINGO!
DeleteI woke up with a total epiphany this morning! In my sleep, the God I worship came to me and explained that my paying taxes to any form of government, is an unpardonable sin.
ReplyDeleteAnd now, the POPE has provided me with a terrific defense, when I'm brought up on charges of tax evasion!
I hope specifics on this story will be disclosed by reliable sources. If a "meeting" actually took place, then Pope Francis would probably feel bound to respect the exchange as priviledged and confidential. Although Davis is not Catholic, the Holy Father would still fulfill his duty to minister to a needy child of God.
ReplyDeleteThat gives Davis control over the narrative. She can bask in the reflected goodness of the Pope and paint him as an admirer of her politics and her actions, and the public will have no way to know the truth. I don't trust Davis as far as I could throw her.
Still, it seems fickle for people to suddenly turn on the Pope here. After all, if he did meet Kim Davis to provide pastoral care, he's doing exactly the kinds of things Jesus (and St. Francis of Assisi) preached and practiced. He's devoting care to the outcasts of society. Kim Davis, in the minds of many people, is as despised as the tax collectors and lepers Jesus cared for so attentively.
Had he refused to meet with her after the request was made, she would have used that to her advantage too. Poor martyred Kim Davis! The Pope washed the feet of prisoners, but refused her heartfelt plea for an audience. Her supporters would have bristled with self-righteous indignation.
The Pope seems to have been ambushed, put in a difficult position not of his own making, but he has the grace and aplomb to acquit himself honorably.
It's now confirmed by the Vatican.

Okay, so now I want her fined, locked up and removed from office. You know this meeting has now given her the idea she can defy the judge and do whatever she damned well pleases.
She needs to lose her job as quickly as possible.
