NASA has discovered liquid water on Mars. Just thought you should know that this morning.

Courtesy of CNN:

Potentially life-giving water still flows across the ancient surface of Mars from time to time, NASA scientists said Monday in revealing a potential breakthrough in both the search for life beyond Earth and human hopes to one day travel there.

While the discovery doesn't by itself offer evidence of life on Mars, either past or present, it does boost hopes of that the harsh landscape still offers some refuge to life.

"The existence of liquid water, even if it is super salty briny water, gives the possibility that if there's life on Mars, that we have a way to describe how it might survive," said John Grunsfeld, associate administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA.

So that is just one of the things that science has discovered this week.

But remember there is no reason to focus on teaching it to our children, or spending tax payer money on it, after all its not like it provides answers to any of the important questions about our origins or the survival of our species or anything.

In fact Rush Limbaugh does not even believe that NASA found anything.

It's kind of funny that this happens just days before "The Martian" comes out in theaters. It's about an astronaut who gets left behind on Mars after a mission to Mars is aborted.

A big part of the plot is trying to find resources, like water, to keep him alive.

I read the book and it was one of the coolest books I've read in a long time

I highly doubt Rush could find his own penis so it must not exist at all.

Great comment 3:13! Plus, imagine how chronically constipated he must be from all of the oxycontin he has taken over the years. Yuck!

Why don't we load fat ass on a rocket and send him to Mars to verify the nonexistence of said water!

I very glad you brought that up. Later news indicates that SarahPAC is indeed asking for donations so they can fund a full scientific investigation to disprove the claim of water.

Is Rush Limbaugh still around? I thought he moved to Canada along with Ted Nugent.

I don't know about Limbaugh, but our strict gun regulations and progressive way of life should stop Ted in his tracks. Can't imagine him coming to a country that is the very antithesis of all he represents.

He promised to be either in jail or deceased if President Obama were elected for a second term. Seems as if he is a liar as well.

Gee, if we find a way to sustain life on Mars, I have a whole list of people who should be the first colony there....or maybe not, considering what their type tries to do to Planet Earth.
I actually know a very bright young woman who is on full scholarship at Ohio State, has a message from John Glenn on her phone, and just won a national NASA
competition. She DOES want to be on that first voyage to Mars. Go Kelly!!

This reminded me of "The Marching Morons by C.M. Kornbluth. Googling it also brought up commentary by PZ Myers, "There are no marching morons" http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2007/05/08/there-are-no-marching-morons/ A provocative read.

Not true. Trump has announced plans to build a fence around Mars and make Martians pay for it.

  12. Conservatives, you have your marching orders once again: don't believe water has been discovered on Mars. Don't look at the science, don't think it through. Just listen to Rush. Because for reasons that have never been clear, he knows more than you and you should listen to him.

I bet Bristol's water breaks before Mars.
All joking aside, the investment we made in NASA and the Mars mission are still bearing fruit.
