Stephen Colbert asks Senator Elizabeth Warren why she would be such "a terrible choice to be the President of the United States." Her answer proves why she would be a great choice.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

“I’m out there every single day in the middle of a huge fight, and it’s a fight about what this county is going to look like going forward,” Warren said. “The game is rigged.”

Colbert pressed her for details about the game.

“I’m talking about our country and how it’s run,” Warren said. “Here we are, the richest country on earth — we have so much going for us, and yet we have a federal government that works great for millionaires, it works great for billionaires, it works great for giant corporations. It works great for anybody who can hire an army of lobbyists, an army of lawyers, give lots of campaign money. For the rest of America, it’s just not working — and it’s time for us to take that government back and make it work for us.”

You know a lot of politicians say things like this, but when Warren says it I BELIEVE it.

Look I know the argument, about how Warren is much more effective working in the Senate than she would be if she were the POTUS or the Vice POTUS.

But before you dismiss this idea altogether just imagine this:

SANDERS/WARREN 2016

Come on. Tell me that THAT did not send a Chris Matthews style shiver up your leg.

Great minds think alike. My dream team for sure. I'm having real reservations about Hillary. I don't doubt her patriotism but I do doubt her electability. Which is scary. I love Bernie but he doesn't have the dough. What a dilemma. Joe Biden is Joe Biden. I'm a little worried.

  3. Warren either at the top of the ticket or stay in the Senate there is no other option.

Agree. Warren's talent would be wasted in the VP spot. She is needed right where she is, or leading. Same for Sanders.

    2. VP spot sets her up to run for POTUS when Bernie steps down.

But she doesn't want it and no one can make her want it.

    3. Could you imagine her as Senate Majority Leader? Pure "gold," you should forgive the expression.

Good luck with that, Senator Warren, my respect for you is immense. That being said, when you figure out how to reverse the SCOTUS-backed "corporations are people, too" Citizens United ruling, get back to us. It will never happen.

Warren and Sanders in the Senate -- Hillary at the helm.

Plus all the other progressives she pulls in on her coat tails.

    Now that's the ticket!

As I wrote somewhere else today, if Bernie with his million small donors is the nominee, then what? The loaded GOP is already writing attack ads, and with what will he counter them? Small donors are great , but right now, you either get into bed with corporate donors, or you lose. I am fine with Clinton. We just have to give her Congress, and watch the positive change happen.

Small donors don't matter. Should Bernie win, he will receive the big bucks the Dems have. AND we won't have the world's most unethical human being running for president again. kthxbye Hillary

Heroes of the base--the furthest from the middle--of either party will hurt the party's chance of winning. If the Democratic Party wants to energize the GOP, it will run Sanders/Warren.

An astute colleague of mine wrote this earlier today:

President Obama is hosting the head of the Chinese communist regime at a decadent state dinner tomorrow night as this hero who was abducted again in China will probably be suffering torture at the hands of the communist regime's thugs.
Gao Zhisheng has suffered severe, long term torture on three occasions and is probably suffering a forth after being abducted again yesterday. This man has more courage, honour, morality, nobility and dignity than anyone at tomorrow's ostentatious, shameful feast could ever dream of.
As the U.S. "honours" Xi Jinping and the barbaric regime, these ongoings are being used by China's state controlled media as a massive propaganda campaign to bolster the Chinese regime's image in China. Also, while these grotesqueries play out, I'll repeat some of that is happening in China, now: The ongoing and almost inconceivably evil atrocity of organ harvesting is being committed against Falun Gong practitioners in China; the extremely brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in many other ways, happening in labour camps, prisons and jails is also continuing across China; the persecution, repression and cultural genocide continues in Tibet; the often vicious persecution of House Christians is ongoing; the persecution continues of anyone who publicly asks for real freedom of speech, free press, free information including the internet (FB, Twitter, YouTube and millions of other sites are blocked in China by the regime's internet blockade); persecution of democracy activists continues; persecution of lawyers who are courageous enough to try to defend Falun Gong practitioners (one being Gao) continues. These and many other abuses that are proven and known by the U.S. government to be true are all happening as you read these words.

    1. And in what way will anything change or improve if Obama snubs the Chinese government?

The right seems to be totally clueless about how to put diplomacy into practice. That is a major reason to keep them out of the White House and remove as many as possible from Congress.

So you think negotiations can be furthered by not working to improve relations with China?

In fact ""Mr Gao's wife, Geng He, has said that she hopes her husband's case will be raised during talks this week between US President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington.""

Looks like his wife is in favor of the visit. If you read the article,he has been captured and released several times over the years, and itb seems he could have sought and received asylum in the USA along with his wife and children. His torture consisted of solitary confinement, propaganda piped into his cell,he was undernourished and a cattle prod had been used on him. While that is all reprehensible,it's not the pinnacle of torture I was expecting due to the letter above. I wonder why he does not want to leave China for the USA as he could?

NO. We need strong, clear voices like Warren's in the Senate. VP is an important job, but with no power. Give it to a younger Dem who can gain experience & exposure for 2020 or 2024.

  20. Colbert is doing his Pope show tonight and it's really good.

He had a panel that included Andrew Sullivan and Maria Shriver.

He did some funny Catholic and Pope bits.

And he had an Archbishop Wenski from Miami on. (Colbert was presented with a medal of the patron St. of comedians who he recognized and identified right away, plus he got a Cuban cigar. Since the Pope was in Cuba we know where that cigar came from.

He had his simple Pope Chair at the ready and a life size stand up cardboard figure of the Pope.

He and his bandleader sang a cute rendition of You've Got a Friend. (I still don't like the toy piano harmonica he plays.)

They ended with the YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus whose members are Christian, Jewish and Muslim. I usually don't stay for the closing musical groups but I did for this. They did Joy to the World (Jeremiah was a Bullfrog). I thought their rendition was a little stiff but the band loosened it up a bit when they joined them. Some of those youth weren't so young. I saw some gray hair there. But I kinda like that it was not only multi-religious but also multi-generational.

I think there are some moderates and Independents who would be willing to vote for Bernie just to not vote for Trump. But I also think that many of those people would be unhinged if Ms Warren was on the ticket as well.Plus the energy drummed up against her from the Right would be massive,in the same way that Dems would work against Trump.
