Courtesy of Yahoo News:
The Supreme Court on Monday ruled against the Kentucky county clerk who has refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses, and the clerk will arrive at work Tuesday morning to face her moment of truth.
Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis will have to choose whether to issue marriage licenses, defying her Christian conviction, or continue to refuse them, defying a federal judge who could pummel her with fines or order that she be hauled off to jail.
"She's going to have to think and pray about her decision overnight. She certainly understands the consequences either way," Mat Staver, founder of the law firm representing Davis, said on Monday, hours before a court-ordered delay in the case expired. "She'll report to work tomorrow, and face whatever she has to face."
Apparently this lunatic stopped issuing ALL marriage licenses in the days after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality which kind of makes me wonder why she simply was not fired?
Perhaps the reason for that is because she has a lot of support in her community, which I imagine is made up of backward thinking religious nuts just like her.
When will these people realize that their faith is no excuse for denying people their human rights?
In other religious news the Pope has decided to allow Catholic priests to "forgive" women for having an abortions.
This being seen as a victory by some, but the entire idea that a man, even if that man is the Pope, has to "forgive" a woman for a decision she makes concerning her own body sickens me.
Update: A US District Court judge has ordered Davis and her entire staff to court on Thursday.
Here is her woe is me statement to the press:
"I have worked in the Rowan County Clerk's office for 27 years as a Deputy Clerk and was honored to be elected as the Clerk in November 2014, and took office in January 2015. I love my job and the people of Rowan County. I have never lived any place other than Rowan County. Some people have said I should resign, but I have done my job well. This year we are on track to generate a surplus for the county of $1.5 million.
In addition to my desire to serve the people of Rowan County, I owe my life to Jesus Christ who loves me and gave His life for me. Following the death of my godly mother-in-law over four years ago, I went to church to fulfill her dying wish. There I heard a message of grace and forgiveness and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. I am not perfect. No one is. But I am forgiven and I love my Lord and must be obedient to Him and to the Word of God.
I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus Himself regarding marriage. To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God's definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience. It is not a light issue for me. It is a Heaven or Hell decision. For me it is a decision of obedience.
I have no animosity toward anyone and harbor no ill will. To me this has never been a gay or lesbian issue. It is about marriage and God's Word. It is a matter of religious liberty, which is protected under the First Amendment, the Kentucky Constitution, and in the Kentucky Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Our history is filled with accommodations for people's religious freedom and conscience. I want to continue to perform my duties, but I also am requesting what our Founders envisioned - that conscience and religious freedom would be protected. That is all I am asking. I never sought to be in this position, and I would much rather not have been placed in this position. I have received death threats from people who do not know me. I harbor nothing against them. I was elected by the people to serve as the County Clerk. I intend to continue to serve the people of Rowan County, but I cannot violate my conscience."
So there you have it, Jesus does not want her to issue marriage licenses to them damn homosexuals and by gum she not going to do it!
I wonder if the prison has a nice chapel?
Isn't she elected?
ReplyDeleteShe can't be fired because it's an elected position. However, she can be held in contempt of court and either fined heavily or put in jail for contempt. Fining would be better because gofundme won't allow her to receive money for an illegal act (that would be being in contempt of court).
ReplyDeleteArchie Butt
She is free to practice her religion in her home and at church. Her ignorant & bigoted religious views have no business being brought into the workplace. This lady needs to be replaced with someone willing to do the job as required by law.
DeleteJust like anyone else, if she is unable or unwilling to fulfill the duties assigned to her position, she should vacate the position.
DeleteWhy isn't her supervisor hauled into court for not firing her when she refused to do her job? Oh, 'cause god, I see, never mind.
ReplyDeleteGood thing she didn't have me as her boss - even if she is an 'elected' person!
DeleteAs an elected official her "supervisors" are the people of the county and the County Commission (or whatever that county calls itself). As Gryphen pointed out, she probably has the support of both of those.
DeleteHer personal details are exactly what you'd expect. Married FOUR times. So much for following Biblical teachings.Everyone in her office is a relative. And the kicker: she makes 80K a year so no wonder she wants to stay in her sweet sweet gravy train elected job. Bets are being made to see how fast her online gofundme gravy train gets created once she gets terminated by the KY legislature.
ReplyDeleteOh you just KNOW that will happen.
DeleteFame and free money all in the name of the Lord.
Sound familiar???????
Eighty thousand a year and she looks like that! What bull did she spew to get elected? Or, do all that live in her area think as she does?
DeleteKick her in the ass and out the door would be my suggestion!
And multiple marriages are ok with "backward thinking religious nuts just like her"?
DeleteIf she had even one ounce of true integrity, she would resign her position. I know a guy who has done that--while I disagree with his beliefs, I respect his decision and his conduct (he did it very quietly, no publicity, no fuss.)
DeleteBut no, she whines, stomps her feet, and
plays the noble martyr, all the while refusing to perform her elected public office, but of course holding out her hand for that $80K a year.
Not to mention her four marriages, but that's okay because they were all straight, so all that sanctity stuff, yeah, it's still all good in her case.
Ugh. Disgusting.
She is an elected official. She can't be fired. Either a recall election to replace her or she gets fined and/or goes to jail.
ReplyDeleteHopefully all of the above.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/09/01/1417441/-Federal-judge-orders-Kentucky-clerk-her-entire-staff-to-court-Kim-Davis-releases-Godly-statement
ReplyDelete***********
U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning wasted no time ordering bigoted and defiant Rowan County Clerk to court and explain her actions:
Rowan County Attorney Cecil Watkins says the federal court alerted him that a hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday in Ashland, and that Davis along with her entire staff has been summoned to appear.
As an elected official, Davis can't be fired; her impeachment would have to wait until the Legislature's regular session next year or a costly special session.
***********
So it will be very interesting to see what happens at that court appearance on Thursday morning. As for me, I hope she and her staff all get thrown in jail among the sleaziest dregs of society. I bet she'll do a lot of praying then, and I hope the answers she gets back from her version of gawd are that she's a despicable excuse for a human being and definitely NOT any kind of decent Christian.
Elsie
It's being said she won't leave her place of employment. The police need to go in there and pick her fat ass up and move her out with her personal belongings - and the locks changed so she cannot re enter!
ReplyDeleteShe'll never be hired anywhere else, I'm sure of that! What a friggin' attitude. Another far-right Christian and I'll wager a Republican!
She is still bound by the duties of her job, I don't care what religion she is.
ReplyDeleteI hope the judge brings the hammer down on Ms. bigot's arse and assigns both a fine and jail time for her continuing blatant disregard of several judicial orders. Ms. bigot's little fiefdom needs to be disbanded as well.
ReplyDeleteShe is a major hero in the county she was elected in. As an elected official, she can't be fired.
ReplyDeleteI think I read that her salary is in the neighbor of $80K which is why she won't do the right thing and just quit. She's a money grubbing hypocrite like the Duggars.
ReplyDeleteShe was elected to give out marriage licenses to all who are legally allowed to marry. Jesus should tell her to resign and surely he will find an even better job for her!
ReplyDeleteHer mother held this job for years, and her daughter was elected at her death. Her son and many other relatives also work in the office. They have all refused to issue marriage licenses to gays. Since they are not elected, they can, and absolutely should, be fired immediately.
ReplyDeleteSo, she was elected. Recall her. Or if they won't, then bear the shame of allowing her to continue in office while refusing to do her job.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this KY county is like $P, and believes that any publicity is good publicity?
Shame? You're kidding, right?
DeleteUmmm, who would marry THAT 4 times?
ReplyDeleteJust imagine what her husbands must look like.
DeleteReally, she should just resign. If she believes in Jesus he no doubt has better plans for her. SNARK ALERT! I also find it hilarious she is a 4-year saved by Jesus fundie and she hasn’t quite decided who is in charge: her imaginary friend or the devil. Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very new "add in" to her rant since she got called out as a divorced and remarried woman making her an adulterer according to the bibull.
DeleteShe needs to keep 'her' god out of the workplace. She needs it reinforced to her that her boss is of the human kind! If she cannot handle her responsibilities, than to jail or provide her resignation! I'm sure no one is going to miss her!
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope the Judge nails her ass good and proper.
Seems to me she's getting her prayer panties in a twist for no reason.
ReplyDeleteSHE'S not actually marrying these people. She's issuing a license that affirms that the couple has fulfilled the legal requirements for marriage. Someone else actually performs the ceremony that she finds so abhorrent.
LOL prayer panties! I can't believe some teevee preacherman hasn't tried pushing those to the wimminfolk in his 'flock'. 'Buy the panties and throw 'em back at me on stage, gals!'
DeleteShe's basically a vending machine that gives out licenses. She makes sure all the boxes are checked, all the hoops are jumped through, then she spits out the paper. She doesn't make the rules, she follows the rules.
DeleteThis is about her own ego and she looks like a idiot.
"I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus Himself regarding marriage."
ReplyDeleteExcuse me. Maybe I am having an old folks brain fart, but could someone remind me WHEN jeebus talked about marriage and more specifically same sex marriage? When did he call it anything, let alone a bad thing?
I so wish these internally ugly people would toss out the OT and just live only by what they claim are the teachings of their so-called savior!
You are so awesome, Leland!
DeleteOn the other hand, he was VERY specific about divorce and infidelity.
DeleteHer own behavior and hypocrisy aside, how can she refuse to issue marriage certs to gay couples and not to divorced people?
"I intend to continue to serve the people of Rowan County, but I cannot violate my conscience."
ReplyDeleteIn other words, 'I only intend to serve those people who follow the rules and traditions I personally find acceptable. The rest of you heathens can go suck an egg.'
Sorry, honey, but that's NOT doing the job you were elected to do.
And just how is she serving the people of her county who want to get married and happen to be gay?
DeleteShe just wants the $80K. Greedy hypocrite redneck scum.
Interesting dilemma. I bet there are quite a few people living in that county who are not religious nuts or bigots who would LOVE to make that much money at a county job. Recall this nasty bigot and let someone who doesn't gave an agenda do the job.
ReplyDeleteMark my words. When she is finally removed from office she will play the "religious persecution" card, set herself up with a GoFundMe page, and the right wing idiots will give her about a million dollars
ReplyDeleteWhat astonishes me about these people screaming for their religious liberty...is that these are the same people who will have a coronary if a Muslim even utters the words "Sharia law"
Exactly! I just had nearly this same conversation with someone this afternoon.
DeleteThat woman is as dumb as a sack of hair.
ReplyDeleteMaybe dumber!
DeleteThis just in....
ReplyDelete"Even The Heritage Foundation Thinks That Anti-Gay Kentucky Clerk Is Nuts"
Elsie
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2015/09/01/3697638/even-the-heritage-foundation-thinks-that-anti-gay-kentucky-clerk-is-nuts/
So... if she was a Muslim she could decide not to issue marriage licenses to whomever for religious reasons? That would go over well with these people now wouldn't it.
ReplyDeleteAbout the Heritage Foundation suggesting she's nuts: "...the fact that as prominent an anti-gay luminary as (Ryan) Anderson believes that Davis has gone too far is a sign of just how thin a limb the Kentucky clerk now finds herself upon."
ReplyDeleteElsie
If you are going to use your religion to deny people equal treatment, you can't pick and choose what you like from your religion--you need to deny marriage licenses to divorcees (like her) and give them to rapists who want to marry their victims.
ReplyDeleteCan't she be fired already? Probably lose whatever pension she thinks she's earned as well?
ReplyDeleteThis woman is getting some terrible advice from the lawyers at Liberty Counsel, who probably approached her after her defiance first hit the news. They seem to be using her to further their own agenda. It's difficult to imagine a decent, honest attorney advising a client to defy an order of the Supreme Court, when there is a cushy 80,000 dollar a year job on the line and the possibility of incarceration.
ReplyDeleteJail the self righteous bigot and Thank You Jesus for the excuse!
ReplyDeleteShe must be eating KY jelly, dingleberry flavor!
ReplyDeleteAs no one in the state can touch her, which apparently includes the governor and attorney general, I guess that makes her queen of Rowan county.
ReplyDeleteWell, the judge on Thursday could toss her fat ass in jail for contempt, so she won't be queen for long.
Deleteoh, she'll be a queen, you'll see
DeleteI understand that since she was elected, it is hard to fire her. Her son and other relatives in the office, however, are hired. Therefore, they should be fired immediately.
DeleteWith a little work, this could be the start of a great country western song. *
ReplyDelete*My apologies to Louis and Rick.
Will she be sent a bill for all the money she wanted with this asinine stunt?
ReplyDeleteWasted, not wanted
DeleteThey just don't get it. Religious freedom begins and ends at the border of themselves. It does not extend to imposing on the freedom of others. They really have no understanding of the "first amendment" they love to talk about but have likely never read.
ReplyDeleteAnd I quote "Freedom of religion means freedom to hold an opinion or belief, but not to take action in violation of social duties or subversive to good order." That was the Supreme Court in 1878. They also held in 1940 that "While the right to have religious beliefs is absolute, the freedom to act on such beliefs is not absolute."
Bitches.
Exactly. She can go to church as often as she likes to pray away the gay cooties she thinks she's going to pick up by signing forms for them. Or she can quit. But she can't refuse to do her job.
DeleteWell... she has a point...
ReplyDeleteHomosexuality is right there in the seven deadly sins:
Lust
Greed
Gluttony
Sloth
Wrath
Envy
Pride
...hmmmm, I guess it isn't.
Well, the Ten Commandments then,
homosexuality is VERY definitely right there in the Big Ten:
1. I'm God
2. No graven images
3. Don't take MY name in vain
4. Keep the Sabbath holy
5. Honor dad and mom
6. No killing
7. NO ADULTERY
8. No stealing
9. Don't lie
10. Do not covet
...not there either?
I'll be damned.
Not in the Big Seven or the Top Ten?
Fire her ass.
lol!
DeleteLooks like she has a bit of trouble with the gluttony, greed and adultery ones.
She is protected by the 1st amendment PERSONALLY but she took an oath to uphold the laws of this country. Guess oaths don't mean what they used to.
ReplyDeleteNo one is asking her to stop practicing her religious beliefs. Just leave the bible in her car when she is on the taxpayers clock!
DeleteShe rests on her religious beliefs and also the 1st amendment. Where in the 1st amendment does it say local constabularies get to determine whose religion is best? Apparently gay folk have a different set of religious beliefs. Who is she to deny them their 1st amendment rights?
ReplyDeleteIf I went to work in a hospital and then claimed I would not give medications to or treat Jews or Muslims because my religion told me these groups are evil, should I be allowed my salary anyway even if I refused to do my job?
The constitution and the court ruling, which Ms. Davis ignores, is part and parcel of the same amendments on which she wants to rekt. Take it all or leave it, Ms. Davis.
How many times can the county be sued before they have not a penny left? They deserve everything they get.
ReplyDeleteAnd Little Miss No Hater Me is a garden-variety bigot, her religion doesn't support her nastiness in any way.
Let her cool her fat ass in prison.
Maybe the judge will fine the county something like $80K per day for non-compliance. Let the county's taxpayers bear the burden of Kim Davis flouting the law. Being god-fearing and all, they probably will be happy to fork over cash so that they can keep paying dear little god-fearing Kim Davis her hefty salary. Or maybe there'll be a ground swell of public opinion to encourage her to seek some place else to hold down a cushy high-paying job.
ReplyDeleteThere's a bigger problem here.
ReplyDeleteAn aggressive and fearless media would have been digging into Miss Kimmy's past before now. There's at least three ex-husbands out there, and no telling what former acquaintances, the color commentary from whom is highly likely to leave her looking not so pious or pure of conscience.
However, it's the same gutless media that swallowed the story of a 44 year old vice presidential candidate claiming to be 26 hours in labor with her fifth live vaginal birth, nine of those during air travel where none notice she's in labor or even pregnant.
Fire the bitch.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, they can't.
DeleteI say fine her $80k, which is her yearly salary.
When she goes into court on Thursday and says Jesus ordered her not to issue same sex marriage certificates the Plaintiffs should ask the judge for Davis to bring Jesus to court with her on Friday. It's about time we put this religious BS out for what it is, a con job to control, shame and otherwise pass guilt to the masses.
ReplyDeleteSome more of the saintly Kim Davis' personal history:
ReplyDelete"The marriages are documented in court records obtained by U.S. News, which show that Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis divorced three times, first in 1994, then 2006 and again in 2008.
She gave birth to twins five months after divorcing her first husband. They were fathered by her third husband but adopted by her second. Davis worked at the clerk's office at the time of each divorce and has since remarried."
What a joke.....................

DeleteHow many of the losers who married her were her cousins?
DeleteFornication and adultery are apparently fine and dandy with her Jesus.
DeleteSo, did she issue her own marriage licenses?
DeleteThere's a funny photo meme out there that asks how the Rightwingers would like it if they would feel the same if it was a Quaker who was refusing to give out gun licenses - also due to religious objections.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant comparison.
M from MD
Great point.
DeleteI recently heard someone on the radio discussing the push by the religious right to have more vouchers available for parents to send their children to religious schools.
The person posed an interesting question - Would those same people be so eager for their tax dollars to be given to children who attend Muslim schools?
Translation: No, I don't want to give up this cush job with $80,000 salary, but I sure do hate them gays.
ReplyDeleteMy questions for her are:
Do you own a hairbrush?
If somebody had refused to issue you a marriage certificate because you had been divorced multiple times and they judged that behavior as sinful, would that have been totally cool with you?
LOL! That hair is just gross. It's almost as bad as Palin's wig.
DeleteShe's a Democrat
ReplyDeleteYes, but not really.
DeleteLink, please.
DeleteWhy do you keep posting this? What bearing does this have on her hypocracy?
DeleteWhy take the job if your right to religious freedom is used to deny other's rights to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness? When one is elected a public servant, THEY don't "choose" whom gets served and whom doesn't.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they have a fine chapel in prison. Nothing better than a captive audience, and many people actually find Jesus while doing time.
I wonder what it was about this woman, that attracted her husband.....oh wait, it doesn't say she's married, just that she "believes marriage is between a man and a woman" How's that working for you???
She's been married four times.
DeleteShe's elected, can't be fired. But why isn't the media pointing out that she is the Taliban, putting religious law ahead of the civil law. She is a criminal who openly refuses to obey the law of hte land. Even Jesus said, "Render unto Ceasar...etc."
ReplyDeleteShe can be impeached. She is not doing her job.
Delete“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
ReplyDeleteMaybe this dimwit hasn't been on the God Squad long enough to have read that part. I'm a secular Jew and even I know it.
The government office she works in belongs to Cesar, not God. If Jesus were real, he'd say she should do her fucking job already and stop embarrassing him.
Oh, dear. That poor clerk is already going to hell. It seems she issued a marriage license to a trans man and his wife earlier this year: http://m.dailyindependent.com/news/woman-transgender-man-got-license-from-rowan-clerk-in-february/article_e6a182a0-4e38-11e5-a80e-0b19350210e9.html?mode=jqm

Kim Davis's marriages are documented in court records obtained by U.S. News, which show that Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis divorced three times, first in 1994, then 2006 and again in 2008.
DeleteShe gave birth to twins five months after divorcing her first husband. They were fathered by her third husband but adopted by her second. Davis worked at the clerk's office at the time of each divorce and has since remarried.
I am laughing so hard right now! I'm not the dumbest person in the world or the smartest. But I can't figure out how some guy adopted twins fathered by a guy who was clearly a "romantic" rival for Miss Davis' affections. Quit your job and see if you can get a reality TV show with that story, you crazy woman.
Delete-Bristol D. Frederick
Here's Kim's problem. We have a separation of Church and State. She holds a government job, so there should not be any religion involved in it. She can practice her religion at home, in her church or almost everywhere else. But, when it comes to the final authority regarding her government job, The Judge in the Court of Law passes judgement, not God.
ReplyDeleteDan Savage Lays Into Hypocritical KY Clerk And Her Four Marriages
ReplyDelete...SAVAGE: And I think Kim Davis is waiting to cash in. I predicted from the beginning that she would defy all the court orders, defy the Supreme Court, that she would ultimately be held in contempt of court, lose her job, perhaps go to prison for a short amount of time. And then she will have written for her, ghost written books. She will go on the right wing lecture circuit and she'll never have to do an honest day's work ever again in her life.
This is about someone hypocritically cashing in and she is a hypocrite. She said today, and I'm going to read it because I want to get it right:
I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus Himself regarding marriage.
This is a woman who's been divorced three times and married four times, and I'm going to read this too:
She gave birth to twins five months after divorcing her first husband. They were fathered by her third husband but adopted by her second husband.
She's now onto her fourth husband. Jesus Christ himself in scripture condemned divorce, called it adultery and forbids is. Jesus Christ himself in scripture says not one word about same-sex marriage.
http://crooksandliars.com/2015/09/dan-savage-lays-hypocritical-ky-clerk-and
...But no one is stating the obvious: this isn't about Kim Davis standing up for her supposed principles—proof in a moment—it's about Kim Davis cashing in. There's a big pile of sweet, sweet bigot money out there waiting for her. If the owners of a pizza parlor could raise a million dollars just by threatening not to cater the gay wedding no one asked them to cater... just imagine how much of that sweet, sweet bigot money Kim Davis is going to rake in. I'm sure Kim Davis is already imagining it.
And speaking of Kim Davis' principles...
http://www.thestranger.com/blogs/slog/2015/09/01/22793219/i-suppose-i-should-say-something-about-kim-davis
She's really pretty! I can't believe she's only had four husbands because a woman who displays such grace, wisdom and beauty should certainly have had perhaps 20 husbands.
ReplyDeleteBest comment I've read all day!
Delete-Bristol D. Frederick
I love how people jays try doing anything they want because "it's in the Bible".
ReplyDeleteWhen we were first married, we had a heated "discussion" about whose job it was to put the lights on the Christmas tree. So I wrote in the front page "It is God's will that the man must put the lights on the Christmas tree". The next year, I pulled it out and showed it to my husband. End of discussion.
Central teaching of scripture? If Jesus were alive now he would have no problem with gay marriage.
ReplyDeleteGod's definition of marriage or the Old Testament's definition of marriage, like two wives, concubines, slaves, sister-in-laws, etc.? That definition?
Gag me, you ignorant talibangelical cow.
Apparently she can obey her right wing nutjob church's idea but not her job definition or the Supreme Court.
If she never sought to be in that position why did she run for clerk? But she's not serving all of the people and she is not doing her job.
You want that kind of religious bigotry? Quit your job and open a bakery.
Otherwise, I hope you are fined big time and put in jail until your term is up.
I'll bet she eats shrimp and wears cotton/polyester too.
OH, and she should be stoned for adultery too.
Self-righteous prick.
This is a pure PR stunt, after she quits she is going to run for congress. And the morons will carry her on their shoulders on election day.
ReplyDeleteHey folks this is Kentucky. Check out the Norman Goldman talk radio show /website for a fairly definitive explanation of Kentucky state law and this person's history. Apparently her family has held similar positions for a century, her mother held the same position for 50 plus years and all three of the woman's children work in state government...... FYI.....she herself has been married four times and sources state that two of her three children were born out of wedlock. Not sure how that works..,
