8 year old girl dies after gun falls to the floor while her mother braids her hair.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

A Georgia girl was killed in an apparently accidental shooting that also wounded her mother.

Marsha Lynch said she was braiding her daughter’s hair when a handgun fell to the floor and fired, striking her in the leg and then shooting her 8-year-old daughter in the head.

Sharia Lynch died from the gunshot wound before she could be airlifted to an area hospital.

Not a day goes by where some child is not killed by a gun in this country.

And yet every single one of these weapons were undoubtedly purchased because their owners believed that having them would be them and their loved ones safe.

That is the mindset created by the NRA and its supporters, and that is the mindset which needs to be changed before we can take the important steps necessary to protect the lives of our children.

This has gone on fucking long enough, and the time for change is now.

Blame it on the NRA and blame it on FAUX News and Right Spew Radio and social media. 24/7 repeats about murder day in day out - even years old murders. While there are pockets of high crime areas, most of America is safe and owning a gun only make you less safe. Also blame it on the TeaTHUGlicans who attack education and educations spending, so that what is produced are people who buy the lies of the above.

Reminds me of that MOH pic with the gun on the nightstand as he coddles the baby. What could possibly go wrong, right? Stupid is as stupid does.

      He's an ass.
I remember reading some comments on that photo where some dummies were saying what a nice gun it is.

I would love to see a follow up with these parents, a few years after the tragedy, to see if they still feel the same way about guns.

The first thing on every national news show ought to be the running total of people who have died because of guns. Put it right in everyone's face every day. List the ages of the dead as well. See how well that fits the NRA's narrative!

    Not an accident.

    Criminal negligence.

It infuriates me when I read stories about parents like this getting sympathy because they've 'lost their child."

No, they didn't LOSE their child, they MURDERED their child!

Agree with both 8:28 and 9:01. Either the mother or any other adult in that house needs to be charged.

I'm trying to figure out who the fuck manufactures guns that will go off when dropped and why anyone would buy that gun...

How does a gun just fall? Was it on a dresser? Was there an earthquake? This story seems really fishy.

Yes, I think that there is more to the story, too. This just doesn't add up.

Like future non-president JEB! says: "Stuff happens. Meh.". The good news is that the Gun Nuts of America (GNA) may finally follow thru on plans to honor the many hundreds of Young Martyrs of the 2nd Amendment with a plaque in a stairwell at GNA headquarters in downtown Aynul, Louisiana. At least these children won't have died in vain. In this case, the young victim died in Georgia.

We need to do something, anything to make stories like this obsolete and extremely rare. My daughter's fiancee, a junior in college, stopped at an ATM on the way to dinner and got shot in the leg, shattering his kneecap and causing blood clots. One bullet did all that damage, and for what? The guy who shot him and his pals were laughing while my daughter made a tourniquet and called the cops. I daresay he's "lucky" he didn't die like these innocent children whose guardians buy the lie that guns keep you safe.
This beautiful girl had her whole life ahead of her, who knows what her contribution to the world would be? What is a gun doing loaded, on a table, while the mom does her kid's hair? Do these "parents" have consciences or commonsense?
