And then there's this guy.

Seriously?

For the record the Titanic was an actual ship built by actual people in the real world of the early 1900's, while the Ark is a fictional storytelling device used in a book of fairy tales written thousands of years ago.

The idea that these stories would be used as examples in 2015 by a man seeking perhaps the important job on the planet should terrify all of us.

And even more terrifying is the fact that he has enough support to have stayed at the top of the polls for several months now.

  1. He's preaching to the converted. Living in the bubble of believers, such stuff is constantly reinforced. Out in the real world, one of great diversity of people of faith, no faith, different faiths, this stuff is ludicrous. On the national stage it's obvious and not just silly, but dangerously stupid. If he, or any of the religious zealots are the Repub candidate, the Dems hav so much ammo he/she will be left in shreds. Intelligent Republicans (yes, there are some) are horrified by this development, but frankly they let the "base" roar for votes, and not it's going to ruin them. Karma?

It's just another example of how the right wing likes to substitute snarky bumpersticker slogans for facts or logic...

Some of his anti-education-ism may come from his belonging to the 7th Day Adventists. They do not believe in education after high school. I suspect they fear that educated young men and women would flee the cult.

I'd be curious to hear how he reconciles that point of view with his career as a neurosurgeon.

I suspect it would be extremely difficult to find anyone willing to have a high school graduate operate on their brain!

That's not true: Carson, himself, is an M.D. and all three of his sons are professionals with post-college training.

Some of the best medical schools are SDA. Loma Linda comes to mind. Where did you get that information?

This is actually stolen material from an anonymous author used many many times in comedy sketches across several decades. I wish these people would give credit where credit is due and stop stealing other people's stuff. (Yes Sarah I'm looking at you.)

Oh and the full, correct quote is:

"Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the Ark, professionals built the Titanic”

But doesn't that quip make a lovely bumpersticker? We don't really need leaders with thoughts more complicated than that, do we? /snark

And as a special treat for Gryph, here's a quote directly from the Old Testament:

"THERE IS NO GOD." Psalms 14:1 KJV

Don't believe me? Look it up.

Didn't have to, except to be sure I had the King James wording right. You are correct in saying that it's a quote. The psalmist is quoting "The fool [who] hath said in his heart …".

While I have Bible Gateway on my screen, here's John (15:2) explaining Natural Selection: Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

    1. And that in a nutshell is why Carson will never be the GOP's candidate for president.

    2. That's what's puzzled me since his entry. Carson is even darker skinned than Obama, and while he appeases, for now, the same racists that were passing photos of watermelon patches on the White Lawn, and of Obama with a bone in his nose, would those same cretins sober up enough on election day to give this guy the top job? Don't look for my bet.

The photo is quite perplexing as well. Why is there a microphone pointed at his crotch?

  8. This is the wannabe that scares the shit out of me. He is as batshit crazy as $arah! I wonder why she's not supporting him since he clearly aligns with her fantasyland views. Oh. Wait. Could it be because he's black???

The Republicans are turning to Ben Carson because 1. He is bugfuck insane and criminally stupid about anything outside of head goo. 2. He is black and therefore voting for Ben Carson makes white racists who wanted Barack Obama crushed seem like they're not racist. 3. He's not Trump.

Make no mistake, though. Despite his demeanor that suggests someone who is shooting ketamine right into his jugular vein, Carson believes in some of the most savage policies that the conservative movement has to offer. Just because your executioner sounds like he's stoned doesn't mean he won't cut your head off.

Ben Carson Used To Be A Homicidal Maniac? (Video)
“As a teenager, I would go after people with rocks, and bricks, and baseball bats, and hammers. And, of course, many people know the story when I was 14 and I tried to stab someone,” Carson told Todd last Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Ben Carson had been sued for malpractice at least six times including by a girl who suffered facial disfigurement and woman who claimed he left a SPONGE in her skull

You know, the only thing more alarming than Donald Trump leading the Republican presidential field is the fact that Ben Carson is the guy right behind him. While establishment puds like Jeb! Bush and Marco Rubio can’t decide if they want to beat Trump or emulate him, the Good Doctor made it clear this week that he is not only willing to replicate Trump’s signature brand of hot-garbage-spewing, but he’ll say even DUMBER shit. Here is Carson from earlier in the week on the Oregon shooter:

As terrifying as it is to contemplate Trump as the GOP candidate, at least his craziness and hate is out there for all to see.

Carson is even crazier and more scary in his beliefs, but he is much quieter about them and often comes across as thoughtful and introspective instead of the batshit insane he truly is.

  12. Ben Carson may be an accomplished surgeon, but his beliefs are those of a child and that alone disqualifies him to lead
a nation as diverse as ours. One simply cannot be a man of science and remotely give an ounce of credence to the story of the ark.

Ben Carson exhibits all the symptoms of someone who is in drug-induced stupor. Like he's on Xanax. He's not "calm". He's comatose. He's not "low energy". He's stoned. People who have interviewed him have said that they couldn't hear his answers above the ambient sound in the room. And I think Castellanos is mistaking bewilderment for humility. Carson seems to be searching for his point of view in mid-sentence, frequently closing his eyes as if to block out any other sensory input that might confuse him. His behavior is the most odd I've ever seen from any presidential candidate. And that doesn't include his jaw-dropping ideas. This is the guy who said that a vitamin supplement cured his prostate cancer, but then he went ahead and had the surgery anyway just to be "a good role model". Holy cow.

A Seventh-Day Adventist, a man who believes, who knows the end of the world is very near...

...and would have the nuclear launch codes.

Just what the GOP needs, a guy with unresolved anger issues who believes in fairy tales while ignoring reality. There's something about his demeanor that gives me the creeps, for instance when he makes his eyes droop to mere slits while being interviewed. Looks like he's under the influence of something or he's waiting for the answer to reach his earpiece.
I'm not familiar with seventh day adventists, but what do they do the other six days?
