Democratic Debate Open Thread. Update!

Okay so here we go guys, this is where politics gets serious.

Now I know it will not be anywhere near as entertaining as the GOP debates, but it WILL be more coherent.

I will update this post throughout the debate, and be drunk tweeting it as well. (That part will be somewhat less coherent but probably a little more entertaining.)

Here is a newly released "How to beat Clinton" memo from 2008 that was supposedly co-written by several of Barack Obama's close aides:

As you can see many of the same arguments that were being used back then are resurfacing today.

Update: Bernie Sanders is causing a spike in searches for the word "Socialism."

Update: Best line of the night so far.

Hillary and Bernie are BFFs now.

Update: For those who missed it.
Update: Really Hillary? You NEVER tried pot?

Really?

I find it interesting that most the candidates and others want more than 6 debates, except for Hillary and Debbie Wasserman.

What's your point? Hillary is the only one on stage that has a grasp of all the issues. She has the most experience, is probably the most intelligent, and why should she want more debates? They become a sideshow after awhile. She and the rest need to be meeting the people, refining their messages, and getting ready to fight hard. Six debates are plenty when we only have this number of candidates.

Pay attention. Hillary said a couple of days ago that she would welcome more debates.

5:40... what she says and what goes on behind the scenes are two totally different issues.

5:24, how is the air there, all the way up there in Hillary's ass?

I didn't watch the debate, but just for my two cents, I agree with Hillary, Debbie, and 5:24 about the number of debates in the primary elections. Better to leave voters wanting more, than having them feel like they've had too much.

I think six could be too many.

      Delete
    8. Anonymous12:13 AM

It makes sense that the front-runner wants fewer debates.

Plus, I agree that six is too many. After a while, it's the same questions over and over again. Plus, who wants the ultimate Democratic candidate raked over the coals that many times by her (or his) Primary opponent?

She did nothing that every Sec. of State before her (and a couple of GOP GOVERNORS..right JEB! and Mittens?) did before her. They want to make people either hate her, distrust her, or get tired of seeing and hearing about her. Do not let them win.

Plus I believe she is more concerned about women and families. She knows the ins and outs all the way around and with her record could get much more done knowing the ropes even though Bernie is great.

How to work with Republicans? Vote them all out and get a Democratic Senate and get more seats in the House. That's every Democrat's dream.

But Bernie recognizes the need for a revolution of voters turning out in order to turn the tide in the Senate and hopefully the House. Without this, Hillary as President would be Republican-lite. (Maybe even with this.) Bernie is stressing the need for millionaires and billionaires to get their money out of politics, while Hillary needs that money. My money's on Bernie.

      Delete
    5. SallyinMI11:40 PM

Hillary doesn't 'need' that money. Bernie cannot, repeat, cannot compete with the GOP when there is ONE nominee and the attack ads start airing. They already write him off as a socialist, and it's one small step to convincing the low-ed voters that he's really a communist who will take their guns and their money. Seriously. Hillary can fight that, and the GOP has already taken away most of the ammo they had against her, all on their own. I love Bernie too, but he will not be our nominee.

I believe Hillary when she says she never tried "pot". Neither did I.

The idea of sharing a cigarette with someone you not only wouldn't kiss in a fit but who may not have even cleaned their teeth.... was the best turn-off my mother could have wished for.

In this day and age there would be even more reasons not to do it.

I believe that Hillary never tried it either. Same as she does now, she probably just looked and acted the part and pretended to be hippie, just to be accepted. Frankly Hillary would be a classic paranoid narc.

It was only a matter of a few years. You must be 4 years older than I am, and pot was everywhere. Hillary is much too serious about her mission in life to have ever let herself be distracted by drugs.

I was in college for five years in the early 70's. Lived in a dorm the whole time, and yes, there was pot around, but I did not try it. Never drank either. My dad was a heavy smoker (of tobacco) and drinker, and ruined my parents' marriage with both. I still do not drink alcohol, or smoke anything at all. None of the six kids from that angry household do.

Who freaking cares if Hillary tried pot or not? Is it really such a big point on who to vote for? Whether someone did or not is NOT the issue! You think Bernie never lied about ANYTHING??? That is naive!

As much as I like Bernie and his ideological progressive ideals which I agree with he WILL NOT NEVER IN NO WAY be able to accomplish as much as Hillary will because simply he is seen as a LWNJ by Americans. Sorry but I don't care if Hillary may have taken a hit of pot at one time in her life. That is such a small issue to pick on if you need something to make her look like a liar. Maybe you should go back to Ben Ghazi or E Mails if you don't like her that much. Maybe you should have included a picture of Chelsea looking like a hippie?

IMO Bernie will just not be able to accomplish what Hillary can. Things often most happen for the best in small steps. I love progressive idealism but it just aint a gonna happen yet. Small steps. Hillary has power. I'm going with her this time around!
