Today Hillary is going to introduce her plan for limiting the availability and distribution of firearms in this country.
Here are her plans as reported by HuffPo:
At the top of the list is a pledge to take administrative action if Congress fails to tighten the so-called gun show and Internet sales loopholes. Under current law, licensed dealers are required to conduct background checks and certify that potential buyers are not prohibited from owning guns. But unlicensed vendors, including some individual sellers at gun shows, don’t have to go through these steps.
Clinton plans to call for lawmakers to address the issue. But if they don't, she will require that anyone “attempting to sell a significant number of guns be deemed ‘in the business of selling firearms,’” which would “ensure that high-volume gun sellers are covered by the same common sense rules that apply to gun stores -- including requiring background checks on gun sales.”
Clinton's second proposal would close a gap in the current background check process that “allows a gun sale to proceed without a completed background check if that check is not complete within three days.”
Clinton will also call for legislation that prohibits domestic abusers from buying and possessing firearms. Such a bill has already been introduced in the Senate, where it has had a hearing before the Judiciary Committee. Similar legislation has been pushed in state legislatures as well, where the National Rifle Association has notably backed down from the fight. According to a report from the Center for American Progress, nearly 12,000 convicted stalkers can legally purchase firearms in the U.S.
Finally, Clinton will call for a repeal of the legal immunity that gun manufacturers and dealers currently enjoy under a 2005 law called the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. This could be the most politically provocative of the four proposals. Not only is the immunity a prized possession of the NRA, but it is something that Sanders voted for while a member of the House of Representatives. Clinton, who was a senator representing New York at the time, voted against it.
You know people may call this politically opportunistic, but we have to admit that it takes guts to come out so aggressively for more gun control knowing that the pro-gun lobbies and conservatives will now come after Hillary even more aggressively than they have in the past.
I think Hillary taking point on this issue might change the race going forward and may even help to determine which GOP candidate is chosen to go up against her in 2016.
Damn, if only Rick Perry had known.
I am so proud to be a Democrat!
ReplyDeleteGood move for Hillary. Progress does not happen without acting on the courage of one's convictions.
DeleteBe courageous. Vote every opportunity offered, local, county, state, and general election!
dowl
You GO, girl!
ReplyDeleteShe has my vote with this move .. Only with this move did she secure my vote
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. I had been leaning towards the Bern but I do differ with him on gun control (at least his previous voting record on it.)
DeleteShe'll get my vote if she gets the presidential nomination. Gun control is one of my issues for sure. I'm still on the fence over whom to vote for in my state's primary, though. I'm disappointed in Bernie's gun control record, but he's still got a low grade from the NRA. And I prefer all his other positions to Hillary's. Bottom line, I'd be OK voting for either of them in the presidential election.
DeleteI'm not a Hillary fan, and this new 'going all in' does not impact the way I see her at all. However, speaking of the way I see her, she looks like this process is really wearing her down. She didn't look like this even as recently as a few months ago. As a citizen, not as a candidate, I wish her well.
ReplyDeleteNow we're talking. With Bernie taking on income inequality and Hilary taking on gun control- I am in political heaven. Now we need someone to take on the ant-choice crowd.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Warren
DeleteGo Hillary! I'm all in for you!

Sheriff McCoig would not release any details on a possible motive, but neighbors say the two were arguing over a puppy.
“Wanting to see a puppy, the little girl laughed and told him no, and that was it," neighbor Chasity Arwood said."
WHITE PINE, Tenn. (AP) -- An 11-year-old boy faces a murder charge after witnesses say he killed his 8-year-old neighbor because she would not let him see her puppy.
ReplyDeleteLatasha Dyer told WATE-TV (http://bit.ly/1KWbDPA) her daughter was playing outside when the next-door neighbor asked to see the puppy. She says the girl, McKayla, told the boy "no," and the boy then shot her.
Jefferson County Sheriff Bud McCoig says the boy used his father's 12-gauge shotgun to kill McKayla from inside his home. Deputies called to the scene Saturday in White Pine found McKayla on the ground with a chest wound. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Dyer told the station that McKayla "was a mommy's girl" who "could always make you smile."

Hillary Clinton Hits Trump, Bush for ‘Admission of Defeat’ on Gun Violence
ReplyDeleteDuring a town hall meeting in New Hampshire on Monday, Hillary Clinton sought to highlight the differences between her response to last week’s mass shooting in Oregon and those of her Republican rivals by calling out the seemingly apathetic comments made by both Donald Trump and Jeb Bush.

Trump, Of All People, Thinks Jeb’s ‘Stuff Happens’ Was ‘Inappropriate’
ReplyDeleteIt’s always jarring when Donald Trump characterizes someone else’s comments as “inappropriate.” Whenever anyone says the same of him, they are just being too “politically correct.” But when a CNN reporter asked Trump to weigh in on Jeb Bush’s use of the phrase “stuff happens” in relation to last week’s mass shooting in Oregon over the weekend, Trump was quick to condemn him.

John Oliver: Mental Health Debate Used to ‘Dodge Conversation’ on Gun Control
ReplyDeleteFor his main Last Week Tonight segment Sunday night, John Oliver dove deep into the issue that has been top of mind for every major Republican presidential candidate in the wake of the latest mass shooting in Oregon: mental health.
“Perhaps the clearest sign of how little we want to talk about mental health is that one of the only times it’s brought up is, as we’ve seen yet again this week, in the aftermath of a mass shooting, as a means of steering the conversation away from gun control,” Oliver said. After playing clips of Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee blaming a broken mental health system, and not guns, for the constant gun massacres in this country, he added, “It seems there is nothing like a mass shooting to suddenly spark political interest in mental health.”
But, as Oliver proceeded to explain, the aftermath of a shooting may be the “worst time” to talk about this complex issue, because “the vast majority of mentally ill people are non-violent and the vast majority of gun violence is committed by non-mentally ill people.”

DeleteDemocrats Release Benghazi Panel Info After McCarthy Remarks
ReplyDeleteNoting House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) comment last week about the Benghazi committee's political success, Democrats on the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Monday circumvented Republicans on the panel to release details from one of the committee's private interviews with a former aide to Hillary Clinton.
"On September 29, 2015, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy admitted during a nationally televised interview on Fox News that House Republicans created the Benghazi Select Committee from the very beginning to wage a taxpayer-funded political campaign against Hillary Clinton’s bid for president. Obviously, this is an unethical abuse of millions of taxpayer dollars and a crass assault on the memories of the four Americans who were killed in Benghazi," the Democrats began in a letter to Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), the chairman of the select committee, referencing the majority leader's statements last week.
In the letter, Reps. Elijah Cumming (D-SC), Adam Smith (D-WA), Adam Schiff (D-CA), Linda Sanchez (D-CA), and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), said that the way Republicans on the committee went about their work shows how political their investigation has been.
"Although some Republicans attempted to explain away Rep. McCarthy’s admission, it reflected exactly what has been going on within the Select Committee for the past year-and-a-half," the letter continues. "It has held no hearings of any kind since January, and it has completely abandoned its plans to hear public testimony from top defense and intelligence officials so Republicans can focus almost exclusively on Hillary Clinton."

Oregon Shooter's Mom Reportedly Bragged About Gun Stash
ReplyDeleteThe mother of the 26-year-old man who massacred nine people Thursday at Oregon's Umpqua Community College reportedly bragged in the past about the stash of weapons she was stockpiling in anticipation of stricter gun laws.
Laurel Harper, a nurse and the mother of Chris Harper Mercer, identified by news outlets as the Oregon shooter, was open about her love of guns, according to an acquaintance who hired Harper to care for her sick son.
"She said she had multiple guns and believed wholeheartedly in the Second Amendment and wanted to get all the guns she could before someone outlawed them," Shelly Steele told the New York Daily News.
Harper told Steele's husband that she purchased new guns a few weeks ago and took her son with her to shoot them, she said.

It means nothing, is just a symbolic push, if she doesn't support Maloney's bill to require gun owners to have insurance. Clinton's stances are just cake icing if she doesn't support the liability bill. http://thehill.com/regulation/243425-house-bill-would-require-gun-owners-to-carry-insurance

The Palins are absolute Trash with closets full of secrets and a lot of folks won't stop hounding them until they are "neutralized". Get used to it and stop being such a sensitive fuck.

Bernie Sanders Terrifies The NRA With Consensus Plan To Reduce Mass Shootings
ReplyDeleteDemocratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) became the NRA’s worse nightmare by announcing consensus steps that can be taken to lessen the number of mass shootings in the US.
In a statement, Sen. Sanders said:

Hillary Clinton Targets Gun Industry Immunity In Common Sense Reform Package
http://www.politicususa.com/2015/10/05/hillary-clinton-targets-gun-industry-immunity-common-sense-reform-package.html
Really? And how will Hillary's plan change anything? For example, Adam Lanza used guns that were legally purchased by his mother. He broke the law by stealing them and by committing murder with them and by taking them into a gun free zone. The guns that Chris Harper-Mercer used were legally purchased by himself and his parents. He broke the law by using them to commit murder and by bringing them into a gun free zone. How would anything Hillary proposes change either of these two incidents? The guns weren't bought at a gun show. They weren't bought without a background check.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a common thread in these two events are a suicidal person, who is determined to take as many people out as possible, before they do themselves in. When did they shoot themselves? When challenged by others with weapons. Since it takes law enforcement time to respond, these shooters know they have a while to inflict damage. By insisting that no armed guards be placed at schools, you are setting them up for more and more tragedies.
And as for setting gun companies up for lawsuits, that is just crazy. You want to place the blame everywhere except the one place it belongs, with the shooter. Are you going to start suing knife companies when people get stabbed? Rope companies when people get strangled? Auto companies when drunk drivers kill people? Or Alcohol manufacturers when drunks kill people? Why is it just guns that make you lose your sense of reason?
I know one thing that will make no difference - doing nothing like you suggest.
DeleteWe need gun owners to be required to have firearm insurance just like car insurance and to be held responsible for the easy access to their guns. People like you are part of the problem.
All the planning will not be able to flourish if the general public of US doesn't change their attitude towards keeping gun. There is a saying that "Laws are made to be broken" so laws will be amended and then again broken by the criminals so it is very important to make people aware about their moral duties. They need to work in coordination with the police and the supreme authority. You can go and visit the Boston Firearm training Center and know how the people are trained to use the gun.
