In attempt to convince them to confess their sins parents and church members beat two teenage boys. One of them to death.

Courtesy of HuffPo:

Two teenage brothers were brutally beaten in church - one of them fatally - in an effort by their parents, sister and other members of the congregation to force them to confess their sins and seek forgiveness, police said Wednesday.

Police Chief Michael Inserra said investigators are still looking into what the supposed sins were.

Lucas and Christopher Leonard, 19 and 17, were pounded with fists Sunday at the Word of Life Church when a "counseling session" meant to explore their spiritual state turned violent, Inserra said. They were beaten in the abdomen, genitals, back and thighs, authorities said.

Lucas died and his brother was hospitalized in serious condition. Six church members - including the brothers' parents and sister - have been arrested.

What is that saying again?

Oh yeah:

“With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.” ― Steven Weinberg

What besides religion, or superstition, could ever convince a parent to take the life of their child?

Murdering violence in the name of the Lord? Lying for the Lord notched up. Ignorance is not bliss.

This is not even manslaughter, it's 2nd degree murder.

I'd like to hear Mike Huckabee, Franklin Graham, or Tony Perkins speak out and condemn these lunatics, but you won't hear a thing from them.

They continue in their quest to make the USA a Christian Sharia nation, and don't give a shit about the Constitutional rights of others.

      Here are some quotes:

OBAMA'S IMPOTENCE; WHY HE CAN'T "DRILL, BABY, DRILL" and he should take leadership lessons from Putin and Netanyahu.

"...Memo to Obama: you could destroy ISIS in a heartbeat if you wanted to. These desert rats aren't running a covert oil operation - their rigs, pump stations, gathering centers, separation facilities, pipelines, value-added refineries, trucks and transportation corridors are right there under your nose. Bomb them. Let the United States Military do its job and kick ISIS ass... or pull out, like you promised.

If you're having a hard time spotting the enemy's obvious funding source on the ground or in satellite images, I'm sure your trusty aides can help. Those same aides assisting you on the golf course with eagle eyes pointing you to your errant hit hundreds of yards off in the drink - surely they can pinpoint billowing oil facilities in the Islamic flatlands that are much larger than your tiny golf balls.

"Physically and fiscally cut off the enemy's funding source. Levy uncompromising, impervious sanctions against any country or corporation doing any business whatsoever with jihadists. Manufacturers, service providers, etc. Anyone in bed with the enemy gets cut off. Got it?

"Use your noggin, Obama. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure this out. Or maybe it does..."

      ----

And over 3,700 people "liked it" if we can believe that statistic. Hope those likes were bought. I think the real like owners enjoyed all the sexual innuendos drilled into this piece, like being bitch-slapped with a dildo.

I am so tired if commenters who completely disregard the horrible tragedy if a topic such as this to comment about something trivial that the stupid Palin's have said.

6:13, it happens on most non-Palin threads. I have learned to skip over the highjackers.

Well the original post has been edited all ready and was much more disgusting than it now appears.
As for high jacking a subject...I apologize and didn't realize that was how it appeared.

We spend billions fighting wars against foreign entities who commit atrocities against their own people, all based on primitive religious beliefs and just plain ignorance. Now we see another life cut short by religious zealotry and ignorance -- in our very midst.

It's a sad commentary on our country that such a thing could happen here. We are supposed to be better than that.

"What besides religion, or superstition, could ever convince a parent to take the life of their child?"

Yeah yeah we are all familiar with your beef with religion.... However that is a ridiculous statement. As gruesome as a subject matter this is to argue, plenty of children are / have been killed by parents without either of those fallbacks.

Well, according to the well-known Old Testament story of Abraham and Isaac, I guess we'd also have to include Judaism as one of those religions.

6:16, the scope of murder through religious zealotry extends much farther than parents killing their children. Neighbors killing neighbors, nations killing themselves and each other since the beginning of humankind, billions dead in the name of religion. Any religion, Katie. All of 'em.

Yeah well sorry 6:32, I don't care about religion or old biblical tales, and I am not even sure that is a response to my very valid criticism of Gryph statement.

and 7:16 since you are also not responding, but doubling down, how about those religious zealots like Stalin, Mao Zedong and Pol Pot.....?

.... oh yeah thats right they were all athiests.

      dumbdumb.

Hhhmmm. Good point 7:33. Except for one thing: None of those three were murdering THEIR OWN CHILDREN, which is the main point of this thread.

Otherwise, I do think your original point is valid. Religion (or superstition) is not the only excuse for killing one's child.

But I would be willing to bet it is (they are) one of the leaders. And what's even more crazy is it is getting worse in this country.

Well duh Leland, if you had bothered to read, you would realize this was an extended answer to 7:16's post that went way of the main point of this thread, yet deserved an response because it was such a stupid comment. 'Billions' in the name of religion? lol.

btw 8:45... who said they were killing in the name of atheism?

      'Billions' lol.

9:26 so you're the new owner of IM? I'm betting if Gryph wants ANYONE off, he can do that. Here's a thought, if you don't care for what Leland posts, skip over them. Problem solved just like that!

This comment section is not here to please you. And guess what? Tough shit if you don't like someone else's comment. I happen to enjoy Leland's comments. I did laugh at you calling someone else a dumb ass. That would make you a........

There is always a thread of superiority in evangelical church-goers. It can’t be escaped if a group believes “One Way” and there is no escaping this premise despite all the talk of inclusiveness.

    1) IT doesn't matter what the "sins" were.
    2) They didn't just kill, they tortured - it take s a lot to kill a teen with fists.
    3) Life in prison for anyone who physically participated. ten years for anyone who watched and didn't speak up.

Saturday update on this story from the AP: he was beaten for more than 12 hours, by his parents, sister and other members of the congregation for trying to leave the church.

Church deacon Daniel Irwin testified he peered through a doorway window in the sanctuary during the more than 12-hour ordeal at the Word of Life Christian Church and saw Lucas Leonard bleeding and in apparent agony. And did nothing.

His 17 year old brother was also beaten, and is in the hospital in serious condition.
