Kevin McCarthy pulls out of House Speaker's race. Ooh, plot twist!

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Representative Kevin McCarthy on Thursday abruptly took himself out of the race to succeed John A. Boehner as House speaker, apparently undone by the same forces that drove Mr. Boehner to resign.

Mr. McCarthy’s candidacy was damaged when he suggested in an interview on Fox News last week that the House committee investigating Benghazi had the political aim of damaging Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign.

As shocked members left the room there was a sense of total disarray, with no clear path forward and no set date for a new vote. Representative Peter King, Republican of New York, said that in dropping out of race, Mr. McCarthy told the room, “I’m not the one to unify the party.”

Holy smokes!

I have to admit that I did not see this coming.

I mean I thought he might lose, but not this.

So does this mean that it is Jason Chaffetz's for the taking, or is Tea party favorite Louie Gohmert going to jump in and give him a run for his money?

All I know is that I am going to need some more popcorn stat!

Could also be why old Boner stepped down Someone has the goods on all of congress...heheheh http://gawker.com/source-kevin-mccarthy-affair-rumors-have-been-circulat-1735519249

According to the Gawker article, RedState posted this info but then Deleted it! Good one Eric!
      HuffPo has it: http://huff.to/1jeSVtB
"In the hours before House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) abruptly withdrew his candidacy to be the next speaker of the House, he was sent an email from a conservative activist threatening to expose an alleged affair with a colleague. The subject line: “Kevin, why not resign like Bob Livingston?”

The email, sent just after 8 a.m. on Thursday, came from Steve Baer, a Chicago-based GOP donor known for mass-emailing conservative figures and Republican lawmakers. It was addressed to McCarthy and numerous others, including the personal account of Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.), who conservative media sites have suggested is tied romantically to McCarthy.

McCarthy has brushed off the affair allegation. After announcing that he would not seek the speaker's post on Thursday, he was asked about Wednesday's cryptic letter from Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.), which asked that "any candidate for speaker of the House, majority leader, and majority whip withdraw himself from the leadership election if there are any misdeeds he has committed since joining Congress that will embarrass himself, the Republican conference, and the House of Representatives if they become public."

Gawkers article makes me think maybe even Boner stepped down for a reason...
      http://bit.ly/1WQgsza
"Very shortly after McCarthy’s announcements, conservative-interest sites began reporting that a rumor has been circulating, with increasing intensity in recent weeks, that McCarthy was engaged in an affair with North Carolina republican House member Renee Ellmers.

Brietbart News stated that the rumor has been “circulating” for “some time,” while Red State’s Erick Erickson, in an article that has for some reason since been deleted, reported that a “guy out in America who has emails for a massive number of members of Congress” recently sent a mass email to members with links that allege the affair. Erickson described the rumor as becoming “louder buzz over the past few days with more and more people on and off the hill talking about it.”

The earliest online evidence the rumor seems to be Got News, the website run by controversial rightwing muckraker Charles C. Johnson, who, on Sept. 25, weeks before the rumor was reported elsewhere, wrote that McCarthy and Ellmers were in a “long running” affair that was “something of an open secret in Washington.”

Adding onto the speculation is the existence of a letter written by Walter Jones, a Republican also from North Carolina, and sent to Republican Conference chairman Cathy McMorris-Rodgers on Wednesday, arguing that “Republican leaders or potential Republican leaders must step down because of skeletons in their closets.”

McCarthy and Ellmers—both of whom are married—have so far denied the existence of the affair, but a source who spoke to Gawker said that he witnessed the two together, acting affectionately, at a fundraiser a few months ago. "

Sorry for long post but *Popcorn* anyone? Makes me wonder why Boner stepped down so "suddenly"? Doncha think?

On top of that , old Kevin managed to uncover the ugly truth of the far right Christian hater Evangelicals against Hillary, so he had to fall on his sword like a good little jesus follower.

Let's hope we don't end up with Ted Taliban Cruz, or Taliban Dan Webster.

If the Repubs put up a lunatic like Cruz, Webster or Gohmert, we'll just start calling them the Preacher of the House, because they will turn the chamber into bible study and prayer time 24/7

The lesson in this for McCarthy and "establishment republicans" is be careful what you wish for. They did everything within their power to elect the TP nuts, and were very successful and are now disgusted with them. The TPers wasted no time biting the hands that fed them. Forcing Boehner out only empowered them to go after the other "establishment republicans." McCarthy is their newest "victim" who illustrates how they have taken power away from the "leaders" in the House. I don't think there's anyone in the House who can "unify" the House GOP/TP at this point.

Off Topic, but since I saw this because I was reading these comments I'll post this here.

There is a link in the sidebar at the left that Jill Duggar and her hubby, the ones who went on and on about being called to be missionaries, have been rejected because they lack an education!

Maybe that's the reason they came home so quickly after the big send off? Or have I got one set of couples confused with the other set?

Or maybe they just pretended to go off to the mission field the way Josh apparently pretended to go off to counseling?

Here is some from link from Americans Against the Tea Party

    http://aattp.org/jill-duggar-and-hubby-rejected-as-missionaries-due-to-lack-of-education-fans-who-funded-trip-are-screwed/

"The funny side of this story is why the missionary trip is never going to happen.

The lurch-looking fellow and his Plain Jane wife were informed that in order to qualify for the missionary trip, they would need something neither of them possess…an education.

To qualify as a missionary for the Southern Baptist Convention, Derick Dillard would need a Bachelors degree from an accredited university, as well as 20-30 hours of graduate studies on subjects like theology, evangelism, and biblical studies. The most “higher” education Derick has is two weeks at a language school. Derp.

In order for the little wife to qualify as the spouse of a missionary, Jill would need at least 12 hours of studies at an accredited college. She only has 12 years of homeschooling by this woman. [Shows photo of Mom Dugger.]"

I'm sure there are "less prestigious" missionary organizations with less rigorous requirements, so why not use one of them?

Or is that like asking Bristol to use generic brand luggage and hand bags? And aren't I wicked tonight? I really need to take a break from these cray crays.
