In the least surprising news of the day, Jason Chaffetz, who suddenly up and quit Congress, is headed over to Fox News.

Courtesy of The Hill:

Fox News has hired Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) to be a contributor for the cable news channel after the congressman ends his House term early on June 30.

Chaffetz will start his role at Fox on July 1, according to a statement from the network.

"In this role he will offer political analysis across FNC and FOX Business Network’s (FBN) daytime and primetime programming," the network said.

The Utah congressman and head of the House Oversight Committee announced in May that he he would resign from Congress to pursue other opportunities.

Shortly after, Washingtonian reported that he'd been telling fellow lawmakers he planned to join Fox News.

Yeah I actually reported this possibility last month as well.

And besides what else is this POS really qualified to do but exaggerate bullshit, attack Democrats, and talk out of his ass?

He will fit in great over at Fox News, and probably soon get his own show.

Perhaps he can appear as a guest on his own show and ask himself what made him flee his cushy job in the Congress so quickly?

I might even tune in to hear the truth about that.

Several White House officials suggest that spokesperson Sean Spicer might soon be replaced with Fox News host.

Oh God, I hate my life.
Courtesy of The Hill:

President Trump has reportedly considered replacing White House press secretary Sean Spicer, and has raised a Fox News host as a possible spokesperson.

Six West Wing officials told The New York Times that the president is considering the most far-reaching shake-up of his first term after being dissatisfied with several top aides, especially Spicer.

Trump has discussed Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle as a possible press secretary, according to the Times, which noted that the president has also spent several hours with Spicer this week praising his TV "ratings" during briefings.

Yes that is what Trump does. He talks you up to your face while searching for the perfect place to insert the knife in your back.

Think James Comey.

(This by the way is not unprecedented as George W. Bush also hired Fox host Tony Snow as HIS White House spokesperson briefly in 2006.)

It also kind of makes sense as Trump tends to blame everybody but himself when things go wrong, and Spicer has been struggling to keep up with the avalanche of lies coming out of the White House and failing to do so.

It perhaps is also not helping that SNL frequently pokes fun at Spicer every chance they get.

Oh yeah, that's going to leave a mark.

Speaking of Fox News it appears that Congressman, and recent recipient of Obamacare, Jason Chaffetz might be headed to that network as well:

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) has made no public announcement about what he plans to do after finishing out his final term in Congress, but he has been telling Capitol Hill colleagues he may soon head to Fox News, the Washingtonian reported Saturday.

Two Republican lawmakers who have spoken to Chaffetz, as well as four House Republican aides, told the newspaper that he said he plans to take on a “substantial” on-air position for the conservative news channel.

This move may come as early as July, according to the report—over a year and a half before his term in Congress would end.

Why doesn't Fox News simply end the charade and publicly identify themselves as a clearing house for former and future Republican politicians and White House staff members?

I mean it's not like we actually think they are a legitimate cable news station.

After first stating that he will not seek reelection, and then hinting he may quit before end of term, now Jason Chaffetz is saying that a 12 year old injury has flared up and he needs a leave of absence. Hmmm.

Sorry, would love to investigate Trump's ties to Russia, but I have a boo boo on my foot.
Courtesy of Politico:

House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz announced Wednesday that he will take a leave of absence from Congress to undergo surgery on his foot, with an estimated return in mid-May.

The Utah Republican posted a picture of an X-ray on Instagram and wrote that a foot injury he sustained 12 years ago is now prompting him to undergo "immediate" surgery.

The estimated recovery time is three to four weeks. Chaffetz said avoiding the procedure could put him "at risk for serious infection."

Chaffetz's absence comes amid a crucial stretch for House Republicans and the Trump administration. There are looming votes on a spending bill to avoid a government shutdown and, potentially, a close vote on legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

"I’m sorry to miss the important work we are doing in Washington," Chaffetz wrote. "This is not an opportune time to be away but medical emergencies are never convenient. I appreciate my constituent’s patience and understanding as I take time to recover."

Look I hate to get all conspiratorial here, but I have had rotting fish heads in my trashcan that gave off less smell than this is giving off.

I am not at all sure of what is happening, but I am all but positive that SOMETHING is happening.

Representatives Cheffetz and Cummings give press conference shaming the White House for refusing to provide documents, and suggesting that Michael Flynn may have committed a felony.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and Elijah Cummings (D-MD) held a press conference on Tuesday to knock the Trump administration for denying their requests for documents related to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

“We received a response from the White House refusing to provide any of the documents we requested,” Cummings said at the press conference. “The White House has refused to offer a single piece of paper in response to this committee’s bipartisan request.”

Cummings also said Flynn might have committed a felony by not disclosing payments he received from foreign governments before he assumed the role of national security adviser.

“This is a major problem,” Cummings said.

I have to say I am a little surprised to see Chaffetz in front of the cameras talking about this.

I wonder if that means he wants to actually do his job before his quits it altogether?

Wow, when Jason Chaffetz complains that a Republican White House is obstructing an investigation, you KNOW the writing is on the wall.

While we are on the topic of Trump advisers and Russia let me share this tweet with you from the other day.
And once again the noose gets a little tighter.

Now Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz is suggesting that he might not even finish out his term. But remember, there is nothing suspicious here.

Courtesy of Fox 13:

The day after making a jaw-dropping announcement that he won't seek re-election, Congressman Jason Chaffetz told FOX 13 he may not even finish his term in office.

“When I contemplate another 200 nights away from home, it is just too much,” Chaffetz told FOX 13 news anchor Bob Evans.

Hours later, Chaffetz released a statement, adding: "My future plans are not yet finalized but I haven't ruled out the possibility of leaving early. In the meantime, I still have a job to do and have no plans to take my foot off the gas."

The announcement led to more speculation and some suspicion about the 3rd District congressman's reasons for leaving. The powerful chairman of the House Oversight Committee has repeatedly cited turning 50, growing weary of sleeping on his office cot, and his family being back in Utah.

The first thing that everybody needs to keep in mind is that when a politician says they are quitting to spend more time with their family, that it is ALWAYS bullshit.

And as Mother Jones points out Chaffetz has been almost brutally aggressive with his ambitions:

Jason Chaffetz is so ambitious that his last name is a verb.

In the political world, to Chaffetz means to throw a former mentor under the bus in order to get ahead, and various prominent Republicans, from former Utah governor and presidential candidate Jon Huntsman Jr. to House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, have experienced what it's like to get Chaffetzed.

MJ goes on however to suggest that this might be some carefully laid out plan by Chaffetz to make distance between himself and Donald Trump while he plots his return to politics.

However I am still of a mind that there is something seriously scandalous that Chaffetz is attempting to head off or stay well clear of, and that the only thing he is doing is covering his own ass.

Keep in mind the lesson of Sarah Palin.

Once you quit partway through your term the road back is virtually nonexistent.

Now suddenly Jason Chaffetz, Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has decided not to seek reelection in 2018. Hmmm.

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz announced Wednesday he will not run for reelection to his House seat in 2018.

The Utah Republican said he won’t seek any political office in 2018, stirring speculation that he may run for governor in 2020. Last year, he told the Deseret News he would “take a serious, serious” look at a gubernatorial bid in Utah once his term as chairman of the House’s primary investigative committee had expired.

Okay so MAYBE Chaffetz is looking to throw his hat into the Utah Governor's race, and that is why he has suddenly decided to quit Congress while seemingly at the pinnacle of his power.

But then again  maybe that is NOT the reason.

Now as I mentioned before I am still a little wary of the reporting by Louise Mensch.

However oddly enough she posted this about six days ago.
Yes it could be bullshit, but then again Mensch seems to be on a hot streak right now, so I am loathe to discount it completely.

And you have to admit that would make sense.

Also keep in mind that Chaffetz bragged just in February of this year about his desire to continue investigating Hillary Clinton even though she is now out of politics, so what exactly has changed since then?

Something definitely smells a little fishy here.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz decides it is better to continue the Clinton witch hunt than to bother investigating Trump's ties with Russia.

Courtesy of the AP:

The Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, who has refused Democratic requests to investigate possible conflicts of interest involving President Donald Trump, is seeking criminal charges against a former State Department employee who helped set up Hillary Clinton's private email server.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday asking him to convene a grand jury or charge Bryan Pagliano, the computer specialist who helped establish Clinton's server while she was secretary of state.

Pagliano did not comply with two subpoenas ordering him to appear before the oversight panel. The GOP-led committee later voted to hold him in contempt of Congress.

Earlier this month, Chaffetz met with Trump at the White House and agreed not to discuss oversight. He has rebuffed calls for his panel to look into Trump's businesses and possible conflicts.

Chaffetz said in a statement that allowing Pagliano's conduct "to go unaddressed would gravely harm Congress' ability to conduct oversight."

I am literally so disgusted by this that I cannot even come up with anything clever to say about it.

It is like these partisan pricks cannot even be bothered to PRETEND they are doing their actual jobs anymore.

Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz believes that those who interrupted his town hall with calls for him to do his job must have been paid.

Courtesy of TPM:

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) said that the thousands of protestors who swarmed his town hall on Thursday night were not actually from his state and were "paid" to protest, the Deseret News reported Friday.

Chaffetz told the paper that he was sure that the protestors, who chanted "shame!" and grilled him on investigating President Donald Trump, were Democrats and that they were trying to cause "chaos" because they don't like Trump and are upset about the results of the 2016 election.

"You could see it online a couple days before, a concerted effort in part to just cause chaos," he said, according to the Deseret News. "Democrats are in disbelief that they have nothing but flailing and screaming to deal with this."

Chaffetz said that he believes that protestors were paid to demonstrate at and disrupt his town hall, telling the paper that one speaker made it a point to make clear that he was not being paid by the Democrats. Chaffetz did not give any info to support his claim.

"Absolutely. I know there were," he said, telling the paper that it was "more of a paid attempt to bully and intimidate" than the feelings of his constituents.

That's right, the only way that people would protest Republican politicians who are not doing their job is if somebody paid them to care that much.

Kind of interesting that Chaffetz believes that money is the only motivator those showing this kind of passion, don't you think.

Kind of makes me wonder who was paying him to care enough to continue investigating Hillary Clinton.

Jason Chaffetz town hall erupts into chants of "Do your job!"

Courtesy of Vox:

Hundreds of people shouted down Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) at a town hall he held in his home district on Thursday night, with many yelling “Do your job!” at the chair of the House Oversight Committee.

Chaffetz has come under fire for taking few actions against either Donald Trump’s international business empire and the potential conflicts of interest it creates, or pushing Trump to release his tax returns. As the chair of the committee tasked with investigating “waste, fraud, and abuse” in the federal government, Chaffetz is perhaps the government official with the most power to check Trump’s unprecedented potential to leverage the White House for private gain.

But so far, Chaffetz has issued no subpoenas, called for no hearings, and scheduled no meetings to investigate Trump's potential abuse of the office. (He has asked the General Services Administration for documents related to Trump’s hotel in DC, and on Thursday called Kellyanne Conway “wrong, wrong, wrong” for publicly endorsing Ivanka Trump’s label.) Critics have pointed out that Chaffetz was relentless in his investigation of the executive branch during President Barack Obama’s administration, particularly over Hillary Clinton’s role in the Benghazi scandal.

And remember Chaffetz as recently as last month has said that he will continue investigating Hillary Clinton over that bullshit e-mail infraction, and yet he has done NOTHING about the almost countless infractions coming from Doanld Trump and his administration.

He is a partisan POS and I am VERY glad that he is being called out publicly for it.

I swear I am staring to get all excited again about the future of our country.

Well it appears that Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz is still going to be a huge asshole.

A photo posted by Jason Chaffetz (@jasoninthehouse) on
Courtesy of CNN:

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee that has investigated Hillary Clinton's actions as secretary of state, including her private email server, shook hands with the former Democratic presidential nominee Friday.

But on Instagram, the Utah Republican -- Jasoninthehouse -- wasn't nearly as diplomatic.

"So pleased she is not the President," Chaffetz wrote. "The investigation continues."

Jesus, what purpose does this even serve at this point?

They launched investigation after investigation against her before and during the campaign, and found nothing actionable, and yet they want to continue wasting taxpayer money to hound her until when?

Until she breathes her last?

You know I have always said that one of the main reasons that Hillary Clinton deserved our support during the primary and general election was because she frightened the Republicans to their core.

So much so that many of them were willing to ignore Russian interference so long as it helped to defeat her.

This only underlines that fact.

You have got to be kidding me!

Now hold on, we can't be wasting our time investigating Donald Trump. We still have Clinton e-mails to read.
Courtesy of Buzzfeed:

The election may be over, but the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will continue its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email use at the State Department, Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz told reporters Monday.

“This was never a political targeting from the beginning. Just because there’s a political election doesn’t mean it goes away. So of course I’m going to continue to pursue that,” Chaffetz said.

He said it remained a priority for the committee, though he noted, “I’ve got a lot of top priorities.”

“It’s potentially one of the largest breaches of security in the history of the State Department. It cannot and should never be repeated again. How was it that so much information was able to migrate out the door? These are still open questions that we need to finish up so they don’t happen again.”

No, it was by no measure "one of the largest breaches of security in history."

If Chaffetz is looking for that he may want to keep his eyes on the incoming administration.

The hate these Republicans have for Hillary Clinton verges on the psychotic.

Which, by the way, is yet another reason why we needed her as our President.

After all the only reason for them to fear and hate her this much is because of what they thought she might accomplish while occupying of the White House.

And anybody who terrifies the Republicans this much, will always be my number one pick for Commander-in-Chief.

Jason Chaffetz admits that after investigation he could find no wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood.

Courtesy of HuffPo:

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said Thursday that the GOP's investigation into Planned Parenthood's use of federal funds hasn't turned up anything.

"Did I look at the finances and have a hearing specifically as to the revenue portion and how they spend? Yes. Was there any wrongdoing? I didn't find any," he said during a Judiciary Committee hearing on the family planning provider.

Chaffetz, a candidate for House speaker, grilled Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards during a five-hour hearing last week. He questioned her salary, asked about the organization's expenses and revenues, and pressed Richards on why the group had revenue of $127 million last year if it's a nonprofit. (Nonprofits put their revenues back into their programs.)

But after all that, he concluded that Planned Parenthood isn't doing anything sketchy with its money. "Did we find any wrongdoing? The answer was no," Chaffetz said.

You are you now thinking, "Well good now that they have failed to find anything they will stop harassing Cecile Richards and trying to shut down Planned Parenthood clinics."

You are so cute.

No this is political catnip to the conservatives and there is no way that they are going to drop this thing until they have squeezed every bit of unmitigated rage and opportunism out of it.

Kevin McCarthy pulls out of House Speaker's race. Ooh, plot twist!

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Representative Kevin McCarthy on Thursday abruptly took himself out of the race to succeed John A. Boehner as House speaker, apparently undone by the same forces that drove Mr. Boehner to resign.

Mr. McCarthy’s candidacy was damaged when he suggested in an interview on Fox News last week that the House committee investigating Benghazi had the political aim of damaging Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign.

As shocked members left the room there was a sense of total disarray, with no clear path forward and no set date for a new vote. Representative Peter King, Republican of New York, said that in dropping out of race, Mr. McCarthy told the room, “I’m not the one to unify the party.”

Holy smokes!

I have to admit that I did not see this coming.

I mean I thought he might lose, but not this.

So does this mean that it is Jason Chaffetz's for the taking, or is Tea party favorite Louie Gohmert going to jump in and give him a run for his money?

All I know is that I am going to need some more popcorn stat!
