Ahh, the joys of Christian private school.

I guess fundamentalists spell input a little differently.

Apparently this comes from a book called Biblical Manhood. (More here.)

I have to tell you that if any man pulled that "glorifies by submission" crap with the women in my family they would have to finish their lecture through a mouthful of broken teeth.

Yeah, that's the cherry on top of a piece of shit belief system. I just don't think relationships based on submission do well, with or without imput.

I attended a Catholic school through grade 8 and then a Catholic college. None of my early education limited my ability to see things clearly or to make my own decisions.

What I do find scary and stultifying about "Christian" schools today is the emphasis on sin. I suspect asking questions or trying to ponder issues on their own are considered sins. Just plain wrong. At our son's house this weekend I found a flyer, in the guise of a Halloween card, admonishing children about their sins and about their need for salvation. It was probably tucked in their door or given by a church member to our grandson along with his trick or treat goodie.

    1. Isn't the very purpose of a religious education to limit one's ability to see clearly and make one's own decisions? At least you, unlike so many, were not crippled by your education and indoctrination.

Despite the mythical war on Christianity, not enough non-believers or independent thinkers are calling out the religious perverts who want nothing more than complete control.

Don't forget the boys that will use a text like that for their sadistic pleasure.

I arrived in a Catholic school in grade 4 at age 9. The boys on the playground took the precedence of males in the priesthood as a fact solely for their pleasure in tormenting female me with my base station in life.

I thought clearly about those boys' deaths in myriad horrible circumstances. Nothing any priest or nun ever said healed the wounds those boys inflicted.

You know - this crap wouldn't be so bad if The Church really emphasized what Jesus actually taught:
    Feed the hungry
    House the homeless
    Heal the sick
    Help the poor
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you

rather than just dress-up and sing songs in church on Sunday.

It's almost as though the fundamentalists read Aesop's fable "The Tortoise and The Hare" and ignored the part about how "slow and steady wins the race" and instead ended up worshiping The Tortoise and The Hare.

And, of course, the Great Schism:
    some worship The Tortoise
    and some the holy Hare.
And they hate and kill each other over the difference.

    (sigh)

The more Gryphen points out these "teachings", the more it becomes apparent that the Bible is really a collection of stories about male insecurities and their behavioral patterns of aggression towards women and those who trigger their inferiority complexes. It might as well be called, "If I Had My Way, All Women Would......Me"

As a born again, fire & brimstone, Southern Baptist, Jesus-Loving Christian child, my adult mind finds nothing in the Bible that was meant for me to be the best leader I could be as a woman that does not include some subservient role or negative connotation. Yet, I have managed to still hold some modicum of respect for those who choose to have these parables serve as moral staples for their core behaviors and beliefs.

Not even sure if that makes me agnostic or two-faced or even hypocritical. For now, Gryphen's outing of religion has helped me transition comfortably into a space where applying logic to history and religion doesn't feel strange. It's actually the reason why I still come here. Just reading his opinion sometimes provides more than enough fodder for me to ponder, research and draw my own conclusions about why men say and do these terrible things against women and those who make them uncomfortable.
