Approximately 1,500 Mormons stage mass resignation in response to rejection by church of children with same sex parents.

About 1,500 Mormons are resigning from the Church of Latter-day Saints to protest a new policy that labels same-sex couples apostate and bans children of same-sex relationships from being baptized, a lawyer said Saturday.

Attorney Mark Naugle said church members who want to resign brought the letters to his office on Saturday.

"We had an incredible turnout," he said. "I was slammed for three hours. Some people stood in line for an hour and a half."

Naugle said he plans to deliver the letters on Monday.

A call for mass resignations call started about a week ago, when the LDS church released new guidelines for lay leaders known as "Handbook 1."

One policy prohibits the "natural or adopted" children of parents in same-sex relationships from receiving a name and a blessing in a ceremony performed by the Mormon priesthood, according to the handbook.

Well I think this signifies yet another step forward for those of the Mormon faith.

The church has been losing members since their involvement with Prop 8 in California came to light, and it looks like their anti-gay positions continue to cost them dearly.

This is how a religious organization's ethics and morals change.

Morality does NOT come from within the religion, it is foisted upon it by changing societal attitudes.

Hopefully, this will be the first of mass exodus from churches for their oppressive and over-reaching practices. I would love to see the same done to the Catholic church for multiple reasons, birth control and abortion just being two.

Bit difficult. There is no formal withdrawal process from the RCC. When I tried as a teen, transferring parishes on protest, I was told it didn't matter if I didn't get "envelopes" to make weekly donations. Excommunicate location is a church side process. Tjisnisnwhy the RCC boaats such high #'s. Once baptiEd, you are always included n the census.

  2. I would like to see the far right evangelicals get smart and finally realize their religious beliefs should n\not be imposed on others. But when you’re working with the uninformed, undereducated, and people who do not use logical thinking skills they should have learned in high school. Unfortunately we all must deal with backward and ignorant people at times who use an illogical book over 2000 years old that has also been translated who knows how many time, written by people who only had no primitive concept of the world they lived in.

Mormons. I rank them right down there in the sewer next to Scientologists.

It it about time these Mormons came to their senses. All organized religions are oppressive but IMHO they take the cake.

In the Mormons' defense ( if it can be called a defense), the average Mormon is better educated (if not better informed) than the average evangelical. I live in Arizona which has seen a large influx of Mormons from Utah. I have yet to see the "trailer trash" equivalent or the Kim Davis equivalent in any Mormon I have met.

Trashy is as trashy does. Income has zilch to do with it.

I think what you mean is 'better brainwashed.' The Mormons I know have, yes, graduated from Mormon Universities, and are engineers and doctors and teachers, but they are still sure that they are better than the rest of us, and sure that only they are going to heaven. The girls are now allowed to do missions, but are then expected to marry, not finish school, and have lots of babies for the church. I don't think I know more than one Mormon female with an actual degree, and she returned to school in her 40's after her husband was fired from a corporate lawyer job. Their four boys are all BYU educated, and in various stages of mission/school life. None has married. None are trash though...they are polite and well-spoken...kind of Romneyesque, actually. Spooky, really.

    3. They may be better educated than the average person, but they still follow one of the easiest religions to disprove and was founded by a conman.

The Mormons that I have known throughtout life are what I would describe as "quietly arrogant or haughty". This goes for both men and women, to the point of being disrespectful in a very passive aggressive kind of way. I had the misfortune several years ago of having a 20 yr old LDS girl working under me while I was in my mid thirties, single and childfree. Her middle name was "insubordinate" if not "incompetent". Naturally she didn't last long as she dropped out of BYU to marry a guy she had known for six weeks. It's just as well cause her ass was on its way to getting fired.

Good News! I hope more denominations fall like dominoes when they feel the burn in their income level. What "sin" did these children commit? What "sin" did the parents commit for that matter?
They may change their minds as they did about people of color being members, but once they screw their foot to the porch floor, no one trusts them, and no one should.

  8. 10% of 1500 families' incomes is a nice bit of ca$h.

Hit them where it matters. In the wallet.

  9. Do they really think this is going to keep their religion "pure"?

    We all know the statistics.

They've got closet LGBTQ already in their "heaven". And they'll never be able to go back in their archives and figure out who is and is not gay and strike them from their rolls.

They've been inducting dead ancestors almost since day one. You bet some of them are gay too. Even if they had kids. We know what went on when homosexuality was persecuted. It was hidden behind marriage and children.

I applaud those brave enough to turn their backs on a religion they grew up with.

If only the same courage could be shown by those raised in a political party that has become one that works against their own best interests.
