Chris Christie actually making some very good points on drug addiction, and how society responds to addicts.

Rachel Maddow showed this clip last night and I was kind of moved by Christie's story of his friend, because I have somebody in a similar circumstance.

However despite what seems to be Christie's heartfelt opinions on this matter, and his recognition that being pro-life extends beyond the womb, I am still very distrustful of any solutions he might introduce to solve the problem.

Don't forget Chris Christie is still a very Right Wing guy, and anything that he suggests as a fix would undoubtedly only make the problem worse.

No one is all good or all bad... not even $ar(vomit)ah Payme.

I'm willing to listen to what Christy has to say about a very important issue. People are dying.

It's interesting that you say you're willing to "listen" to Christy. Is he saying things that you haven't heard before?

Many, many, MANY people are saying the same thing without being a complete asshole in every other aspect of their lives. I'm glad Christie has a reasonable take on addiction, but I'm not going to "listen" to him.

Meanwhile, Christie has said if he's elected POTUS (haha), he's coming after Colorado legal marijuana laws. So, he's still an unreasonable asshole about the reality of drugs when it comes down to it.

Does someone want to temp ISIS to attack? It is going to cost a fortune to protect a damn statue of the most hated evil doer our country has known.

We will be paying for his warfare forever, now another expense for the guy that needs to be in prison for life plus a few more lifetimes.

This was a moving tribute and made him actually seem human, however, I have no idea what he is proposing the government do. The friend he describes had all the advantages yet still died due to his addiction. His wife was a doctor and best friend the Governor. He said he tried several stints in rehab. I'm glad to hear a pro-life Republican say that they should care after the first 9 months though. Seems typical that people only really start to care when the problem starts to affect people like themselves (like when the Aids epidemic got out of the Gay community.) Addiction is terrible but I didn't hear any ideas he has to combat the issue. Doctors do need to stop pushing pills so easily. Maybe its mostly about removing the criminal aspects and stigma so people will seek help sooner. Maybe help provide education and training for those willing to work in underserved areas to combat addiction to solve the shortage of qualified staff.

Doctors do need to stop pushing pills. Big Pharm is BIG and it is not likely to happen even with all Republicans saying the right things. Wasn't GWB's pal in the pharmacy business?

The military is the worst drug pusher. How would they cure PTSD and send soldiers back to die or get blown up? If you want to control the gullible, drug them and stay in control of what they need.

Isn't that Jeremy Morlock's story? He needed to come home to heal and they doped him up and sent him back to kill. I hear that Sarah turned her back on him and the Morlock family.

I can't believe that whatever went on with Track Palin in the service that it helped his drug problems to go into the Guard or Army or what ever he was in.

      "...had all the advantages..."

The several stints in rehab were probably paid for with gold-plated health insurance. Does Christie think we should all get that kind of health insurance? Paid for with what? Tax Dollars?

      Delete
    3. Anonymous2:52 AM

Good doctors don't push pills. In fact, it is now much harder for good doctors to get pain meds for their patients. The crook doctors have ruined it.
I'm in health care and I'm a consumer. I'vee seen patients dischargd after major car accidents who are told to go to their local doctor ofor pin mediations - they will only give patients ONE DAY of say percocet - they don't want to be responsible . It is a disgrace. This happens at the Christiana De. HCS. People wth terminal cancer sent home with nothing and told to follow up with local oncologist when admitted for a complication of their disease when on vacation...even if local oncologist is in FLA. It is reprehensible and we need to find a middle ground. I understand both sides, but it is getting ridiculous for average non addict in pain to get help.
My feeling is consumers are getting forced to go to qiack pill pushers for relief.

Christie is ok with abortion for rape, incest, life of the mother. So his pro-life cred is probably not going to hack it with the fundie's.

And, until Christie defines exactly the hoops he thinks a women has to go through to "prove" rape, I think he's just hiding his misogyny with convenient phrasing.

If I am raped without witnesses, I don't want an idiot like Christie deciding whether I qualify for his permission to make a decision about my body.

Every idiot that wants to defund Planned Parenthood should have to state precisely how the women served by PP are going to get ALL their reproductive health needs met. Governor Christie bleats about addiction treatment, but the guy has obviously never has to think about how to deal with a serious yeast infection when you are poor and there is NO clinic.

Addiction is a choice. Anybody who CHOOSES to shoot up with heroin and snort cocaine or freebase crack makes the chose to use an illegal drug that will fuck up their lives. Christie has compassion for these self-abusers who chose their own destruction of their own free will and now expect society to help them pick up the pieces. All well and good. But what about the women who have no place to go to get referrals for pap smears and mammograms, if Christie gets his way, and it ends up killing them? I repeat - where is his compassion for them? Nowhere, that's where. So I repeat -- FUCK HIM.

And fuck Rachel Maddow for helping soften his image! I am sick and tired of fawning over this piece of shit!

How can Sarah Palin hop on this band wagon?
It is clearly a hit and turned things to the better for Christie. It could be a come back for Sarah. This is a topic she can be an expert on and she can't say a word about it. That must be hell for a wannabe politician.

Look what happened when she was advocating that PTSD treatment and she brought her personal into it. Saying that Track was a counselor or one of those Palin fantasies. Instead the family drinks and drugs together and they were busted when the police couldn't cover up the whole thing.

There is this, does Sarah want to remind us of the love affair with someone awarded an honor medal?

I had a friend, she had it all, big house, good job, nice car, everything and anything she wanted. Married to a man who treated her like a queen, they had two kids, nothing to write home about, just average kids. Anyway, she was morbidly obese. What people call a "closet eater". Despite pleas from her doctors, husband, kids, friends and family, she tried weight watchers, gained it all back and then some, then went "Dr shopping". This was before Obamacare and it was considered "elective surgery". Anyway, she found a doctor she could afford, and despite losing over 150 lbs, she died from a blood clot.
Yeah, we're all flawed human beings, but the prison corporate structure isn't built with rehabilitation in mind, so warehousing these people isn't the answer. And I hate to admit it, but Christie's right on this one. Something needs to be done to help rehabilitate prisoners or they'll end up doing what got them there in the first place and they become a burden to society.
