So Ben Carson has an interesting theory about who built the pyramids in Egypt. And by "interesting theory" I mean truly "insane idea."

So the above is Ben Carson giving the 1998 commencement speech at Andrews University, a school with ties to the Seventh Day Adventists church.

Now the part you want to hone in on is at the 3:45 mark, where Carson shares this:

In the speech -- given at Andrews University, a school with ties to Carson's Seventh-day Adventist faith -- the neurosurgeon shot down claim that aliens had built the pyramids. But he also disagreed with the archaeological consensus that the pyramids were constructed as tombs for the pharaohs.

“My own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain,” Carson said. “Now all the archaeologists think that they were made for the pharaohs’ graves. But, you know, it would have to be something awfully big if you stop and think about it. And I don’t think it’d just disappear over the course of time to store that much grain.”

“And when you look at the way that the pyramids are made, with many chambers that are hermetically sealed, they’d have to be that way for various reasons," Carson said. "And various of scientists have said, ‘well, you know there were alien beings that came down and they have special knowledge and that’s how-’ you know, it doesn’t require an alien being when God is with you.”

So Carson argues that the Biblical character Joseph built the pyramids based on his reading of the Bible, and of course his own theories which were apparently pulled directly out of his ass.

So after this video came to light CBS News asked Carson if he continued to stand by this "theory:"

Asked about this Wednesday, Carson told CBS News, "It's still my belief, yes."

Need I mention that Carson is still running neck and neck with Trump for the GOP nomination?

Perhaps I should also mention that not only is there no evidence that the Biblical Joseph built the pyramids, there is no evidence of the existence of Joseph himself, and then of course there's this:

So the man who wants to hold the most important political job in the world, believes in fantasies that he creates out of whole cloth, based on lies contained in a book of fables, written thousands of years ago.

Yeah, nothing frightening about that.

The line about "Odd for the Egyptians who kept records on everything" is ignorant and does not lend credence to the "zero evidence" claim. Most Egyptian records were obliterated with the destruction of the Library of Alexandria.

    1. Although the various component parts of the physical library were destroyed, in fact the centres of academic excellence had already moved to various capital cities. Furthermore, it is possible that most of the material from the Library of Alexandria actually survived, by way of the Imperial Library of Constantinople, the Academy of Gondishapur, and the House of Wisdom.

True 9:24, they were destroyed, but there is one factor you seem to be ignoring. NONE of the EXISTING records contradict Gryphen's posted quote.

And just because those libraried records were destroyed, doesn't mean the statement you quoted is wrong, either. As far as egyptologists can tell, the ancient Egyptians kept records as well as, if not better than, the Romans. The minutiae included in the records that have been found lends far more credence to Gryphen's quoted line than your "is ignorant and does not lend credence to the "zero evidence" claim."

Nothing found to date (that I am aware of) contradicts - in any way - Gryphen's posted line about it being "Odd for the Egyptians who kept records on everything."

So to sum this up: What Gryphen posted is accurate and even though the records were destroyed, it was only those IN the library which burned.

Of the records which survive, there is NO evidence which contradicts G's post. Were there any records in the library which might contradict G's statement? Perhaps. But as you point out - they were all destroyed.

That's sort of like suggesting that if 101 Independence Ave SE, Washington, DC and vicinity were destroyed there would be no remaining records of African slaves in the U.S. If there really were Hebrew slaves in Egypt, mention of them would not be confined to the national library.

The claimed size of the Hebrew presence in Egypt (nearly a quarter of the population) means that these people would have been part of most Egyptians' daily life. Can you imagine a tally sheet from a slave auction being stored only in the Library of Congress?

Accordinng to this article in Haaretz, http://www.haaretz.com/jewish/the-jewish-thinker/were-jews-ever-really-slaves-in-egypt-or-is-passover-a-myth-1.420844
The reality is that there is no evidence whatsoever that the Jews were ever enslaved in Egypt. Yes, there's the story contained within the bible itself, but that's not a remotely historically admissible source. I'm talking about real proof; archeological evidence, state records and primary sources. Of these, nothing exists.

Not to mention (from the same article): Even if we take the earliest possible date for Jewish slavery that the Bible suggests, the Jews were enslaved in Egypt a good three hundred years after the 1750 B.C. completion date of the pyramids.

This is OT, except as it is another "insane idea." Trig Palin must have a birth certificate, yet I have not heard of anyone that has seen it. There are only the claims of the people he is said to live with. All children need to be able to have legal, proper and available documentation. Anything less is a form of child abuse for the hell it can create in a child's life to be undocumented. Legal adoptions can be wonderful, the shady deals that can happen and be hidden are a serious matter.

November is a good month to pay attention to this matter.

I know nothing of the Seventh-day Adventists, except a quickie that said they accept the Bible as the only source of their beliefs. Noun: a member of a Protestant sect that preaches the imminent return of Christ to Earth (originally expecting the Second Coming in 1844) and observes Saturday as the sabbath.

Didn't Chuck Heath teach a science class while Sally was the religious one? Sarah held back on the details of many of her beliefs when she was campaigning. What a discussion she and Ben could have if they didn't have to hold back on their beliefs regarding science and godtalk.

The archaeological evidence is based on exploration and scientific analysis. Ben Carson needs to denigrate science to keep himself in the warm cocoon of biblical fables.

Ben Carson needs the bible to confirm his opinion that he is superior by divine right. He needs to keep women suppressed and the bible does that for him. Puffing up the tale of Joseph is just a smoke screen. He proffers "facts" to support an unimportant story. That way (in his mind) the whole bible (with all the good bits slamming women) is somehow made more "true".

Preachers have pulled this stunt from the very first day someone figured out that a "bible" is a sure fire money maker for PREACHERS.

I've been inside the Great Pyramid of Giza. I think that it took like 4,000 people 20 years to build it, and it weighs something like 6 million tons. This was 30 years ago that I visited, but as I recall, you go into the entrance, go up a long, long, narrow stairway, until you come to a very small room. It was quite anticlimactic, as I recall, and I cannot imagine a more inconvenient or inefficient way to store grain. Why would anyone put that many resources into creating such a small storage area? It makes no sense whatsoever. Ben Carson probably has never set foot off of American soil.........I'm guessing that he is a believer in American Exceptionalism.......but he feels perfectly comfortable in making this analysis on the pyramids from his American Armchair, because, you know, we Americans are the best at everything just naturally. Why, I imagine that a Christian Evangelical with a homeschool background is twice as smart as any world renowned archaeologist! And I'm beginning to wonder if Ben Carson's education was of the home school, send-away for a college degree in the back of a magazine type! Did any of his patients survive their surgeries? I think at this point, someone should really look into that!

This person is so totally "out there". Perfect hero for the cons. Jeez. Religion really makes people crazy.

  22. This is my take on Dr Carson - he does not really want to be president. Like Trump, this was more of a publicity tour than a campaign tour. From the beginning he has been saying things that were really bizarre (so he would get voted off the island?). Taking time off the campaign trail to do a book tour was a big hint. Unfortunately for Dr Carson - but fortunately for comedians everywhere - he is starting to that he will get the nomination. I believe he caters his statements to his audience. I sincerely doubt he really believes any of this nonsense but it keeps his name in the press. This is just another form of wingnut welfare - he can now trade on, not just his reputation as a surgeon who separated conjoined twins, but as a former candidate. His books will sell more for the political side than the medical side because the right wind nutjobs he is catering too care more about the politics than the people.

I agree with Kerry. The man is on a book tour. Oh, and I heard on the Ed Schulz podcast this week that Carly Fiorina has signed with a speaker's bureau in D.C. So she's not really running either.

If Sarah Palin is a leader it is to lead the crazies in how to scam the American public. Like Palin, Carson is going to get his own slush fund and so on. He can write more books with faked stories, he can take up knitting and sell little hats for cats and charge a fortune for a name recognition.

Not that he will be the big failure that she is with her PAC or her family. They do see what she has done with all that and how it worked to keep her making money and to branch out with the Mini Me deals.

Bad news for Republican voters: Dr. Ben Carson might not have been a “thug” who was saved by Jesus in his Detroit bathroom.

CNN was unable to corroborate the tear-stained stories of redemption Seventh-day Adventist Ben Carson tells on the trail, from attempted stabbings to top polling GOP presidential candidate.

On the hunt in the 2016 Republican presidential candidate’s native home of Southwestern Detroit, CNN talked to nine neighbors and friends trying to find anyone who recalled the “pathological temper” Carson describes in his book, “Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story”.

Nobody recalls that Ben Carson. No one remembers the Ben Carson who supposedly tried to attack his mother with a hammer or punched a classmate in the face or hurling a rock and smashing the nose of a young boy.

This one is a doozy, not in a good way. I am so glad he and Trump are on par with one another.

Carson has no knowledge of hieroglyphics? Does he think all the walls say 'grain storage'?

This idiot is crazier than a shithouse rat. Keep talkin' Uncle Ben.
That's what you're good at. It's going to be a great feeling when this charlatan is exposed as the fool he actually is.

For a smart man, he's really stupid. What he proves more than anything, is global warming because I don't see one plant that produces grain within miles of those structures. Was this the Joseph with the tres fab coat of many colors? I just want to know what drugs Joseph and Ben were/are on?
This guy is too gullible to be President. Don't know, nor care, what kind of brain surgeon he once was.

  29. I think the next constitutional amendment should be that any candidate running for President or Congress must be an Atheist.

I know they are "unelectable" which is why it would require an amendment.

That would at least level the playing field.

And while you can't require a test in civics to be passed to vote, I don't know of any restriction on requiring candidates for political office to have to pass a civics test to at least prove they have a rudimentary understanding of our laws and how the government is supposed to work.

  30. Rather than continuing to laugh at Carson, it is time to seriously consider whether or not someone with such views and opinions has the judgment to be president.

Is there really anything to consider? Isn't the answer obvious?
