There were initial reports of at least 20 victims down amid an active shooter incident at a center for people with developmental disabilities in San Bernardino late Wednesday morning, according to a police official.
The call first came in at 10:59 a.m. of multiple shots fired from the area of 1365 S. Waterman Ave., San Bernardino Police Department Lt. Richard Lawhead said. The department’s SWAT team was training nearby and was suited, “ready to roll” and responded rapidly, Lawhead said.
There were reports of at least 20 victims, Lawhead initially told KTLA. In a separate interview, the lieutenant confirmed there were multiple victims.
There were earlier reports of multiple shooters but it appears now that there is only one, and that he is equipped with tactical gear.
So guns used to injure people with developmental disabilities. That is going to present a certain challenge for somebody that we know.
Is it my imagination or is the frequency of mass shootings increasing?

As somebody who works with kids who have developmental disabilities let me just add that these people will be incredibly confused by what is happening here, much more than those without their challenges, and that even after they are safe they could very well remain in crisis for hours or even days afterward.

ReplyDeleteI understand having guns to hunt, I live in rural Iowa. They are necessary here. I understand certain people having handguns. I even think that shooting as a hobby is acceptable. But NO ONE needs to own a damned assault rifle.
I get that people think they're "cool" and they like to target shoot with them. I think that a reasonable solution for those people would be to allow licensed shooting ranges to own these weapons for business purposes only. Customers can come in and shoot them, and the rifles never leave the range.
Why are guns necessary in Iowa? Do you not have grocery stores? Are you inundated with bears in your backyard? Please. Guns are not necessary...they are for killing. And right now, they are for killing other human beings. Jon Ritzheimer, who has organized anti-Muslim rallies in the Phoenix area, posted video of himself holding a gun and discussing his plans to provoke a confrontation in Islamburg — a rural community in upstate New York that has spawned conspiracy theories and been targeted by militia threats.
The FBI issued an alert to law enforcement agencies to watch out for Ritzheimer, who said he received calls from federal agents and New York state troopers as he traveled in Pennsylvania.
“They asked me why I was coming to New York,” Ritzheimer told KNXV-TV. “I told them I was going to protest a Muslim group, but I was also helping my friend move to New Hampshire.”
Ritzheimer said he stopped using his credit cards and turned off his cell phone to avoid being tracked by law enforcement.
“It was at that point that I hung up and went off the grid,” Ritzheimer said.

Not at all...but I admit I was mildly surprised at first. However we don't know the motive yet. if Isis can brainwash & recruit females to help murder innocent people, so can anyone else. If the KKK can brainwash women into their cult & justify lynchings & killings at PP for example, so can anyone else. Bonnie & Clyde, serial killer Eileen Wournous, etc.etc.etc. numerous women throughout time. Let's give women some credit here whether they be for good or evil. Take for instance the case where a suicide bomber with explosives attached to her body...was she coerced by a male or believed completely in the ideology that she equally shared with the male in her life? I believe both instances have happened. No matter who you are, you're going to have a mate that loves you and shares your beliefs. Women are completely capable of making their own choices...aren't they??? And as equally culpable as a man. Yes they might not always be out there shooting people because they have children at home & maybe not athletic. I personally know very physically strong and/or athletic women who when in certain situations wouldn't hesitate for one second to take action in what they believe in.
DeleteYes, it is rarer that a woman in this case today's shooting, would physically be involved but think about it...it's not a far fetch from being a partner to a man who would do this to actually participating with him because you share the same beliefs.
Women have their own mind. It doesn't always take brainwashing by a man to have her participate in a mass shooting. Give those evil women some credit here!

My very first thought when I first read of it was that one specific individual at the meeting was the target, that the mass shooting was an attempt to cover up that fact.

I thought the same thing about The Donald. I was totally disgusted when I saw on TV how he contorted himself to make fun openly of a person with a disability. Since Ben Carson seems to be following/copying Trump's lead I wonder if he will repeat again that all those people there should have had guns ready so that this would never have happened. Such idiots they both are......say ANYTHING to get the RWNJ votes. That was the GOP's biggest mistake. They cow-towed to the teabaggers, invited them in all for the votes because cheating wasn't enough...now they've laid down with that dog and woken up with fleas they can't get rid of. Can't see them winning the presidential election any time soon. They are pro-gun and anti-women. SPEAK OUT to everyone you know..tell your kids, tell your in-laws. It may take many more lives the way things are going and that would include lives of RWNJ families at the rate all these shootings are going...it's not going to stop until it touches enough right-wingers personally. While this may have terrorist overtones, I think it's an example of going postal to the extreme.
And thanks to the NRA, this couple had the means and opportunity to make sure they had the weapons, ammo and even body armor to carry out their little tantrum.

He was fully armed, he was a devout Muslim who married a radical from Pakistan/Saudi Arabia, he spent a lot of time in Saudi Arabia not just short visits, he made bombs, and he calmly mowed down 14 people at a Christmas party while wearing a go-pro and filming the whole thing. Then he went home to upload his video or do whatever else he wanted, then get back in the car with more guns, where they were later caught before they could possibly go to a secondary target to kill more people.
