Finally an arrest warrant has been issued for Bill Cosby.

Courtesy of NPR:

Narrowly beating a statute of limitations deadline to file charges, prosecutors in Pennsylvania announced a felony sexual assault charge against comedian Bill Cosby on Wednesday. A former Temple University employee says Cosby drugged and assaulted her in January of 2004.

Montgomery County, Pa., prosecutors have charged Cosby with aggravated indecent assault, a first-degree felony.

"These charges stem from a sexual assault," according to prosecutor Kevin Steele, who said the assault occurred at Cosby's house in Cheltenham, a Montgomery County township that's just outside Philadelphia.

Steele said Cosby is expected to appear in court to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon; he also urged any other victims to contact his office.

I have to admit that I was unsure that this would ever happen.

I thought that perhaps all of these things happened so long ago that this sexual predator was going to get away with what he had done to every one of the fifty plus women who he had drugged, raped, or molested.

On a personal note let me just say that for somebody who grew up on Bill Cosby records, Fat Albert cartoons, and Cliff and Clair Huxtable, things do not get more surreal than this.

Cosby was part of the old boys club war against women. This was long overdue.

Bill Clinton gave into temptation of an aide coming onto him he did not drug or take advantage of anyone. Bill Clinton and bill cosby are nothing alike.

Wrong 8:16! That is not what many of the women who claim to have been abused or raped by him say!

You also thought or still believe that some of the women are lying, Gryphen. I bet if it were your gay daughter accusing him, your outlook would be slightly different. Men like you are as much of the problem as Cosby.

"your gay daughter". Wouldn't a normal person just say "your daughter" ? People like you are a problem.

The regret that this has happened is not a lack of belief. You are twisting words. Some of us go back many years to some of his original work - the old LP's. I had several of those - and that was my first awareness of Cosby. One of his old LP's - something like "To Russell my Brother Whom I Slept With" was hilarious. I lost interest in him over the years and did not watch his TV shows. With that said - his apparent behavior is long past due being addressed. The women who have been terribly abused by him deserve their time to air their pain and can hopefully heal. I believe them.

I agree, Pat. We played "To Russell..." until the grooves were smooth. His early work WAS genius. I used to live about a quarter mile from his home in Elkins Park, and you can't see the house from any road, it's a beautifully manicured and well kept garden and I used to wish him well, felt he deserved it all. The former prosecutor, Bruce Castor, gave him too many passes because of his celebrity and I'm sure his tax bracket was way up there.
I'm pleased this one made it before the statute of limitations ran out.

    6. We had several of the albums and my brother and I used to listen to them after school. We also watched I Spy with Robert Culp and enjoyed it. We know Cosby as a dramatic TV show actor and only later discovered the comedian. And we used to watch The Cosby Show.

That said, like Mel Gibson before him, I can't stand anything to do with Cosby any more. Won't listen to any of his old recordings or watch any of his old shows.

Well, I don't know how many of his accusers are being truthful, probably all of them. That being said, I always thought he was a square, a shitty stand up, he never made me laugh once and I often wondered what other comics thought of him. If you hear this creep speak on these matters, he thinks it's all copacetic.

Cosby has something like 700 lawyers. It is a big deal for him. I am sure they will give it their all.

Also several states are changing laws. Those abused, raped and such will have more time to file charges. Criminal and civil.

      It could be retroactive.

Whatever happened to Sarah Heath? In some states she would be able to do something about it. I doubt Alaska will pass new laws.

Even Todd Palin, is things happened to him when young, if Alaska gets on board with change, he could do something about why he is like he is.

Same with any of his victims.

Cosby will be plagued for the rest of his life one way or another.

I hope they also change laws when it comes to family, wives, friends and all who help the perps hide their lives of crimes.

Todd Palin would not be an example for anyone! Remember, he ran a house of prostitution in Anchorage during Sarah's haydays.

The women were provided to Anchorage Police and the Anchorage FBI as well as political officials - John McCain's crowd and statewide ones!

Read the book "Boys Will be Boys" written by the prostitute that Todd used himself - Shailey Tripp (interesting isn't it that Bristol named her son 'Tripp' and spelled it exactly the same!) Plus, Shailey described Todd's private parts in the book!

    6. They filed this one so that the statute of limitations wouldn't run out. I hope they have enough evidence to make it stick. Perhaps this is camel's nose to introduce all of the other women so they can get some satisfaction too.

I don't know if *all* of the women are telling the truth. I suppose the odds are at least one is lying and in it for the money. But even if it is just a majority, say 75%, that is still waaaay too many women. ONE woman is too many. But at least this way they can't say this one woman is lying because they're not ALL lying.

It is great that states are working on changing the statute of limitations. I am mortified at the thought of someone using drugs on anyone and having there way with someone who is out of it. Sick. How many kids has that happened to? May be good when they have no memory. But they me be suffering from what is in the sub-conscience. They just don't know what their problems are about.

I would like to see no statute of limitations, and retroactive, on some crimes against children and adults.

Tom Mesereau, the former attorney for pop singer Michael Jackson, told CNN today that the prosecution in the case of Bill Cosby will have a difficult time proving guilt. Mesereau, who was hired by Jackson about nine months before his own criminal trial in 2005, spoke to CNN’s John Berman of how prosecutors will have a difficult time proving “beyond a reasonable doubt” that the comic legend is guilty of the crimes levied against him.

I could predict Tom Mesereau would have said that before he opened his moment. It's standard Defense Attorney talking points.

Rape cases are often very hard to prove. This one might be too. Tom Mesereau doesn't really know what all the evidence is in this case - only that rape can be hard to prove. He also seems to believe that everyone has to suspend judgment until the case is proven, or not. I don't agree. Only the judge has to keep an open mind. The Constitution doesn't require I believe BC innocent until proven guilty - and in fact I would advise anyone I knew to avoid BC because I thought he was dangerous.

      Tom's comments are gratuitous, IMO.

I also heard a thoughtful commentator suggest BC might strike a plea deal to keep him from dying in jail (very possible given his age and the charges, if he is found guilty). But then, BC is pretty arrogant so maybe not.

The Palins are an awful breed in constantly putting their kids out there in the public eye. Just wait until one of them is kidnapped or murdered and I wouldn't be surprised at all if something like that occurred - especially in our world of today!

Those poor children! Sarah, Todd, Bristol and the Heaths need their heads examined, but that should have happened years ago!

Especially those that are under age.

That includes people like Todd Palin. If he did indeed drill those holes to spy on women, that was likely the beginning of many years of disgusting, harmful behaviors.

I'm thrilled he finally has to face the truth, but even better, his wife and kids were nowhere to be seen. He's walking with a cane and acting frail, but this one made it before the statute of limitations lapsed. Its a small victory, but it vindicates all those women who accused him. Better late than never. He's out on a million dollar bond, and they took away his passport. This isn't justice for all, but a small measure of affirmation.
