Lt. General reminds us who created Daesh. And no it was NOT President Obama.

Courtesy of Occupy Democrats:

While the Republican presidential candidates use every bit of ideological gymnastics to somehow pin the rise of Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) on President Obama, the former commander of U.S. Special Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, Lt. General Michael Flynn dropped an incredible bombshell in an interview with German newspaper Der Spiegel: that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS, was in a United States military prison in 2004 – and released because he was deemed “harmless.”

Nothing more perfectly illustrates what a colossal failure the George W. Bush Administration was. While Bush was busy torturing Osama bin Laden’s bodyguards in a desperate and barbaric attempt to rectify his intelligence failures, the mastermind who would found the Islamic State was in their clutches the entire time. Flynn went on to describe how the Bush Administration’s knee-jerk reaction to 9/11 and their catastrophic invasion of Iraq went on to create the colossal quagmire that is the Islamic State.

“We were too dumb. We didn’t understand who we had there at that moment. When 9/11 occurred, all the emotions took over, and our response was, ‘Where did those bastards come from? Let’s go kill them. Let’s go get them.’ Instead of asking why they attacked us, we asked where they came from. Then we strategically marched in the wrong direction.”

He then ripped the Republican war hawks for their relentless calls to invade Syria and provoke war with the Islamic Republic of Iran, rightly recognizing that this kind of foolish arrogance only serves to breed more terrorism and more violence, and got us here in the first place:

“First we went to Afghanistan, where al-Qaeda was based, then we went to Iraq. Instead of asking ourselves why the phenomenon of terror occurred, we were looking for locations. This is a major lesson we must learn in order not to make the same mistakes again. It was huge error. As brutal as Saddam Hussein was, it was a mistake to just eliminate him. The same is true for Moammar Gadhafi and for Libya, which is now a failed state. The historic lesson is that it was a strategic failure to go into Iraq. History will not be and should not be kind with that decision.”

It should also be mentioned that our policies around the world before 9-11 also contributed to the hatred toward the west, that evolved into acts of terrorism.

Before we created Daesh, we created Al-Qaeda, and if we do not heed Lt. General Flynn's warnings we will continue to create our own demons far into the future.

I am glad this man has retired already. At least they can't fire him for speaking the truth.

I wonder, though, what the idiots on the so-called Intelligence Committee will try to do to him anyway. I KNOW he will be verbally slammed as a liar and someone who wasn't aware of all the facts. I would be willing to bet, though, they will try to discredit him by claiming he was revealing classified documents and information.

Little by little, the population - with the exception of those who wouldn't believe JESUS if he said it to their face - will learn about Dubya and the shitty job he and his cohorts did and what it cost us and what it will continue to cost us.

Well, a person can hope, right?

  2. You should include the NRA in that list of self-created demons.

The media seems to be pushing this incident as real "terrorism" because there were two shooters who wore protective gear and used IED's in addition to assault weapons. Forget that Farook knew and worked with the victims, was born in the US, and went to school and lived here his entire life. He has a Middle Eastern sounding name, therefore, terrorism is now here in the US.

Finally! Someone of stature speaks truthfully vs the lying bunch of Republicans! What a pleasure to read his words! President Obama has had to follow up with this mess and I'm sure it irritates the hell out of him in having to send more Americans over there!

Here's one way to deal with the problem:

    http://www.popularmechanics.com/military/a17930/baghdad-arizona-iraqi-pilots-f16/

These men, who back in Iraq had learned how to fly in Cessnas and Beechcraft T-6 single-engine prop training planes, now knew how to control the mighty F-16 Fighting Falcon, a multimillion-dollar, Lockheed Martin–built military combat machine that can reach speeds of 1,500 miles per hour.

And they weren't the only ones. Back in America there were others. Around twenty. Iraqis just like them, learning to fly F-16s, training to fight ISIS.

What could possibly go wrong with this idea?

  6. Is it just possible that President Obama understands everything this man is saying? And this information needs to be broadcast high and low.....over and over again.

I have no doubt that the President indeed understands everything Lt.Gen. Flynn is saying. he's a very smart man, has talked to many, many people about the genesis of the Iraq war (remember, he didn't vote for it), and is dealing with all the bully chickenhawks who take great delight in calling him a wuss for not employing the military to fulfill their dreams. We outside the US are very thankful he is your President, and we truly shudder at the thought of a Repub Commander in Chief. Don't let it happen. PLEASE.

  7. GOP push back will no doubt be swift. The smear machine will be in high gear. As much as they'll attempt to rewrite history, they cannot escape the fact that an inept foreign policy in the hands of an inept President and Vice-President were substantially responsible for current problems.

Obama knows it all, I believe. He has declined to punish those who created ISIS - the gw bush administration.

As it was the CIA that created Al-Qaeda (do the research), they also created ISIS, with the explicit permission of the bushes.

Thanks to this general. We need MULTITUDES of generals and government agents speaking the truth, instead of covering up their inadequacies.

  9. Add it to G. W. Bush's legacy.

    Helluva job, Georgie.

    Worst President EVER.

(And we didn't even elect the jerk.)

Amazing the damage one damaged deranged and clueless President can do for the wrong reason. Well, President GWB, you wanted to go down in the history book, and here is your legacy. War is hell enough, and unjustified war of revenge because "that man tried to get my daddy killed" or "That man called my daddy a snake", then releasing the footage of his demise accomplished what, exactly? He killed the man's two sons, and against the muslim tradition, left them on display as they rotted in an air conditioned tent.
President Obama got Osama, and did everything by the book not to make it an anti muslim act.

Don 't blame Jeb for dropping the "bush" and using "exclamation point" I'd have had my name legally changed to something more hispanic sounding like "loco"

  11. If I remember correctly, after the 9/11 attack some people did ask "what did we do to cause this??" and were attacked in the press by the RWNJs who screamed that we (the USA) were totally innocent and blamed those who asked that question for being weak and "pussies" for even asking.

Let it be on their heads, the war criminals, who have destroyed our children and those in the Middle East, for their own venial desires. Halliburton was the BIG winner in this entire debacle.

I hope Bush and Cheney, and all their syncophants burn in hell.
