Three year old sheriff deputy's son kills himself with gun. Because that's what guns do.

Courtesy of The Wichita Eagle:

The 3-year-old son of a Reno County sheriff’s deputy accidentally shot and killed himself with a loaded 40-caliber Glock handgun Friday morning, according to a news release from Sheriff Randy Henderson.

Kaden Nagel, the son of Deputy Andrew Nagel, found the gun at 8:15 a.m. in the apartment his father shares with a roommate, according to the release.

Andrew Nagel woke up to the sound of a gunshot.

According to The Hutchinson News the gun did not belong to the father:

Reno County Attorney Keith Schroeder said the handgun was not Deputy Nagel’s service weapon or personal weapon. He said it belonged to a friend of Deputy Nagel who wasn’t aware it was in the apartment.

The father did not even know the gun was in the apartment, and yet this three year old found it, and ended his life with it, before anybody could do anything to stop him.

Just another day in the NRA's America.

Since 2001, 406 THOUSAND people have died by gun violence in the USA, vs 3,380 by terrorism.

If these right wing nuts would ever do some critical thinking, they would get on with mandating reasonable firearm laws, including training, and stopping the gun flea market loophole.

This exact thing happened to my cousin's granddaughter when she was a toddler but it was not fatal, thankfully. However she is permanently disabled.

The asshole roommate of her father left it out. There should be prison time every single time this happens. Without question!

Until this hits home, time and again, with the NRA supporters, nothing is going to happen. And until they wake up and realize that more guns mean more dead kids, nothing will happen. I'm not holding my breath, but I am warning my grandkids, who live in gun crazed Texas, that they should refuse to enter any home of a friend where there are guns.

"The father did not even know the gun was in the apartment..."

A "good guy with a gun" enjoying his 2nd amendment rights just happened to cruise into the apt. and cleverly park the gun so none of the adults would see it, just the kiddo.

    Not buying that story.

The father and the owner of the gun should have to spend some serious time in prison. Forget about how sad they are that this happened. There have simply been too many similar instances over the past few years for us, as a nation, to pretend to think that these are "accidents." Guns are death waiting to happen and here's another time when it did and someone must claim responsibility for it.

They need to stop calling these incidents "accidents."

When the adults are white, it is an accident, and they suffered enough because of the death of their child.
But when the adults are black, it is a crime, and charges are filed.

I am no exaggerating, I have seen this time and time again. Our justice system favors white people.

Agree wholeheartedly. I was "that crazylady" who went to all her kid's friends and asked if they had guns in their homes and if they were secured and licensed. Embarrassed the hell out of my kids, but apparently I feel I failed them by not asking about family/friends.
Your children aren't your bffs, there's time for that when they're of age or older, you're the parent and they're the child.

They ought to get arrested just like the black man who was arrested the other day for his daughter shooting herself with his gun. But, since this father is white, so he might not get arrested.
    White privilege, you know guys.

  8. Compounded with blue privilege accorded the deputy, of course.

America has its own barbaric sacrifice rituals, courtesy of the NRA & their bosses, the weapons manufacturers.

You can say that ancient religions were primitive when involving human sacrifice, but look at us. We're far worse.

So, the "good guy with a gun" was asleep when the 'bad guy's gun' killed a toddler.

Why would a parent allow anyone so careless as to leave a gun lying around to even BE in his domicile?

The fact that this happened on the watch of a law enforcement 'professional' makes this even worse. He should lose his job and be jailed. Too harsh? Tell that to his kid's family.

How do you not know you have a loaded gun in a small apartment ?

      EGGGGZACTLY!!!
HOW did neither the father (a cop), nor his partner (the owner of the gun) know that the gun was in the apartment? Definitely sounds fishy to me!
Of course, since they both were white, and the father is a cop, nothing will be done to them, since 'they have been punished enough by the death of this beautiful child'. I know they are white, because if they were black or hispanic (or Muslim!), their a$$es would be rotting in jail already.

Yes. This whole story sounds fishy. More likely one of them was playing with the gun or something like that, and it went off, killing the kid.

Brilliant question. Unfortunately, it appears some folks value their guns more than their kids. And that applies to law enforcement in this case.

I'm confused, I need Wayne La Pierre to gunsplain it for me: was that a good toddler with a gun or a bad toddler with a gun?

I'd agree with Donald J Trump if he banned guns from our country, he's crazy enough to say is, so what's he afraid of?
All joking aside, how many innocent lives will it take to get stronger gun regulation? If it's one it's worth it.
I'd hate to feel the guilt the parents must endure along with the grief, but since they love their guns more than their progeny, they can open carry in tribute to their dead child.
RIP Kaden, I wish you weren't born into neglect and abject ignorance, none of this was your fault.

  15. So, the good guy with a gun didn't know basic gun safety?

Roommate? (is this a gay relationship?)

Don't tell me this gun was so well hidden the deputy didn't know it was in the apartment but the toddler found it easily. It was obviously within reach of a toddler. Like....sitting out on the coffee table.

And LOADED? You're "friends" with a deputy and own a gun but you don't know enough to never leave a loaded gun out and within reach of a child that apparently regularly comes to visit his dad?

This has idiot written all over it, even if the gun doesn't belong to the deputy.

Your all retards u realize this right? Yes it's terrible that a kid was killed but you need to understand the family is being punished for not having their kid anymore. Nobody can make this right it doesn't matter what you say or do. But you people ranting and raving is only making it worse for the father.
