Should Elizabeth endorse a candidate? And if she does what will that do?

Source
Courtesy of the Washington Post:

With Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders locked in an intensifying struggle over Iowa and New Hampshire, the chatter among Democrats is turning to a big unknown: Which candidate will Elizabeth Warren endorse?

A Warren endorsement of Clinton before Iowa could help her stave off the Sanders challenge by signaling to more liberal voters who are intrigued by Sanders’ candidacy that she should be seen as sufficiently progressive on Warren’s core issues, such as Wall Street oversight and accountability. On the other hand, a Warren endorsement of Sanders before Iowa could help Sanders pull off an upset there, which would likely be followed by a New Hampshire victory, possibly shifting the dynamic in later contests, though she’d still be the favorite. It’s hard to know how much influence a Warren endorsement would have. But it might have some.

I think the Post is being a little overly careful with its choice of words here.

In my opinion if Warren were to endorse Hillary it would essentially be game over for Sanders.

Remember in many ways Sanders is it kind of a de facto surrogate for her in that he attracts many of the supporters who were eagerly anticipating a Warren candidacy, and he speaks to the core issues that made her attractive in the first place.

So if she endorses Hillary, and especially if she campaigns for her, much of that support will fall away.

However IF Warren decides to favor Sanders with her endorsement, then that changes things in a dramatic way as well, and I think that suddenly Bernie's path the White House becomes all that much clearer.

Having said that the REAL game changer is if Warren signs on as either Sanders' or Clinton's VP choice.

If THAT happens then she would for all intents and purposes decide the election.

Your making the assumption Obama is for Hillary. Many of us feel her continued attacks on Obama, after he won the primary, was used for leverage to get her the Sec of State position.

I'm not sure I would support someone that blackmailed me into giving her an office.

I think Hillary is deep in legal problems and she will never see the general election.

      Go Bernie!

Former US Attorneys Predict Criminal Charges in FBI Probe of Hillary Clinton

The FBI has been investigating whether classified information was mishandled over Clinton’s private email server since at least August. The probe reportedly has expanded to include contracts awarded by the State Department in relation to Clinton Foundation donors.

“These classified information cases are relatively simple cases to get into, and the FBI knows that what the Clinton people did with regard to her server was a clear violation of federal criminal law,” DiGenova added. “It is the negligent handling of classified information, which is prohibited by statute, and this is a gross example of it, and it dwarfs the information in the [David] Petraeus case.”

I respect and admire Elizabeth Warren; however I believe our best hope I'd Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton, and it is she who I will vote for. I'm 59, and I've already lived now through a president of the United States whom was not totally Caucasian. And he did a remarkable exceptional job. Now I want to live through a female president of these United Atates. It's time and more than that it's time for an exceptionally intelligent woman, Hillary Clinton, to be elected to the highest office in this country. Hillary2016!

I must agree! I've watched Bernie for years on MSNBC and never thought of him as anything but an old curmudgeon, now a one dimensional candidate. I just can't see him as President...guess I just don't feel the BERN! I'm all in for HRC!

Bernie has big support in the millenials:

Millennial voters are feeling the Bern.

According to a recently released poll, Senator Bernie Sanders currently has an 11-point lead over Hillary Clinton with those aged 18-to-35.

I'm a 30 year old female and I am willing to wait for the right woman (*cough* Warren *cough*)to come along. And as much as I love Warren I would rather she not be anybody's VP, we need her in the Senate if we want the next President to have any chance of getting things done.

It's gonna do a lot. I love Bernie but I don't think he's known well enough to win the general. And now hilly is fuckin up left and right. If I thought Bernie could win I'd vote for him. I love Warren, I think she'll be our first female president. This whacko Trump dill is very surprising. I can't believe there so many fucked up people in this country.

If you believe the polls, Bernie would best TRump in the general election by double digits. Hillary would not. Last night on Bill Mahar's show, famous right wing Palin picker Nicole Wallace pointed that out. Bernie is getting more well known all the time-that's why he's poised to win the first two primaries. If Warren were to endorse Hillary, that would mean that she doesn't believe in anything she's been saying all this time. Bernie and Warren are the true champions of the little guy, and as a team, with backing from all of us, a true revolution could
      take place. Just imagine!

3:48: Hillary would demolish Trump. I don't care what 1000 people said (many of them GOP no doubt.) The debates would be the best TV ever, as she tear him apart on everything. He has no ideas. No big dreams. He's a phony, and she can expose him as well as Bernie can.

It's too early. These polls are meaningless. The GOP/Trump have been busy attacking Hillary and Pres. Obama. The GOP would love to run against Sanders and know the country isn't ready for an atheist, democratic socialist Jewish president.

    1. She doesn't have to. And I kind of think that she won't.

I don't think Bernie can win the election.

    That will determine my vote.

People who refuse to vote for this pathetic choice of Republicans who don't follow things as closely as we here tend to, won't feel comfortable voting for Bernie.

    They at least "know" Hillary.

You can vote for your personal choice.

Or you can vote for someone who isn't your preferred candidate, but will win the general election.

Do you want to support Bernie or do you want to try to win the White House?

That one sentence sums up my opinion on the Democratic situation.

Hillary would be good for the 1% and so would the rethuglicans. Corporate politicians are good for the 1%!

Bernie wants the people represented in government, rather than the corporate rule the majority of our politicians adhere to.

I worked for the Hillary campaign in 2007 partly because America is such a racist country that I didn't think Barack Obama had any real hope of winning the presidency. I never anticipated that Non-racist America would be able to get him as far as the lions' den, and that's where he'd stay.

I'm ready for Hillary but I'm not ready for another 8 years of embarrassing and shameful shit from the Republicans.

She doesn't want to run and I suspect for that same reason she won't be endorsing: she is there in the Senate to work for progress in her field of expertise. The Obama admin shafted her, so she was forced to take this route.

That said, I'm sure she'll be out there on the hustings supporting the 2016 candidate, like all good Democratic politicians will be.

We have pie in the sky members and always have and they can spoil the results of elections with the best of intentions. Rachel Maddow questions Hillary's attack on Sanders.

“Now, I’ve seen the ad that you’re referring to. Honestly, it is not much of an attack,” Maddow argued, noting that the Sanders ad never mentions Clinton by name.

“It says there’s two Democratic visions for regulating Wall Street … It’s not something over the top that means that he’s now this personal attacker in the campaign,” she explained.

“There are two Democratic visions for regulating Wall Street,” Sanders opens in his new 30-second ad airing in Iowa and New Hampshire. “One says it’s okay to take millions from big banks and then tell them what to do. My plan: break up the big banks, close the tax loopholes, and make them pay their fair share.”

Clinton pushed-back against Maddow’s dismissal of Sanders’ ad as an attack, noting that his critique that Wall Street donations leave a candidate impotent or corrupted when it comes to oversight is the same charge that was thrown at President Obama.

Did Joe Biden just endorse Bernie Sanders?

In an interview with CNN, Vice President Joe Biden praised Senator Sanders for his “authentic” voice on income inequality issues, and said that while the Democratic Party has great candidates for the race, Sanders' stance on these issues has made an impression on the public.

“Bernie is speaking to a yearning that is deep and real, and he has credibility on it," Mr. Biden said. "And that is the absolute enormous concentration of wealth in a small group of people with the new class now being able to be shown being left out.”

He added that Hillary Clinton is relatively new to these issues. "Hillary's focus has been other things up to now, and that's been Bernie's — no one questions Bernie's authenticity on those issues," Biden said. Income inequality “has been Bernie's mantra from the time he's gotten involved, even when income inequality wasn't as serious as it is today, it was his drumbeat.”

  16. I don't think endorsements carry much weight any more. They are used more to attack a candidate more than anything else. Like the Republicans saying, oh yeah, that Democrat is endorsed by the UNIONS.

I think Warren should stay out of the endorsement business. I don't think hers would carry much weight and might do more harm than good.
