The Right to Rise super PAC helping Jeb Bush is airing an ad in South Carolina that features a photo of Terri Schiavo, the Pinellas County woman, who died 10 years ago despite Bush's efforts to halt the removal of her feeding tube.
The ad features a picture of Mrs. Schiavo as well as an image of what appears to be someone at the vigil outside her hospice holding a Jeb! campaign sign.
The image shows up around the 12 second mark and is accompanied by these words:
"He's a man of deep faith who fought time and again for the right to life."
Some of you may remember the Terri Schiavo case and how she was used as a political football by the anti-choice groups and Jeb Bush.
After her death there was an autopsy which determined that the amount of damage to Schiavo's brain was massive. In the words of the Chief Examiner, the damage was "irreversible, and no amount of therapy or treatment would have regenerated the massive loss of neurons."
Here is what Michael Schiavo, the young woman's then husband, said in response to this disrespectful use of his dead wife's image:
"It is simply disgusting that Jeb Bush and his super Pac would exploit my wife’s tragedy for his crude political gain. Shame on Jeb Bush."
You know I am going to stop assuming that these Republican politicians cannot go any lower than they already have. Because every time I do I'm proved wrong.
I was naive about republicans. No more.
ReplyDeleteThey will not stop until this country is completely in shambles. All at the expense of honest hard working folks. Whatever it takes.
They are zealots . Watch your back!
somebody needs to ask ol jub, "What DO YOU READ?" He does not have a clue.
DeleteThis was a definite OMG when I saw this, unbelievable and actually horrific. I'm just stunned their campaign would do this! How disrespectful to the family and Terry. And then Payme exploits them as well by jumping onto that band wagon. I'm sitting her shaking my head over it all thinking how despicable and how desperately these wing nuts are seeking attention. It's turned into a circus. Are they all trying to be in the same live reality show?
ReplyDeleteReality (!?) show -- more like Delusional Reality Show.
DeleteBarbara, I'm with you.
DeleteElizabeth 44
Yes, part seven takes place tonight in Iowa...all those "debates' have been are reality TV...just what substantive policy has been out forth? When has even one of them mentioned Flint? What have they talked about except Obama (not running) Benghazi? (not an issue) the IRS (even less an issue) and the emails (nothing to see here folks.) And the GOP voters are still watching? What do they think-Cruz and Trump are going to have a shootout on Fox?
DeleteI wish Cruz and Trump would have a duel and wipe each other off the face of the earth!
DeleteTheir endings cannot come soon enough from the political scene!
That's the problem with these super PACs, by law they have to operate without collusion with the candidate or his campaign so they can release any political propaganda they wish and the candidate and his campaign have no recourse, since by law they do not have right to approve content or message.
DeleteI don't see this ad as a positive for Jeb, but because of the law he can't say or do anything about it.
Jeb!'s campaign, if you can call it that, has been absolutely dreadful. Maybe we're rid of that 'dynasty' once and for all.
ReplyDeleteAnd, lest we forget, Jeb! is regarded as the "smart Bush brother."
DeleteIt disgusts me to see a PAC using Terri Schiavo as a pawn to try and get him elected. He had NO business inserting himself in a case that was working it's way through the legal system. I remember the case well and was disgusted by his involvement then.
ReplyDeleteApart from the moral component of this disgusting ad, it further demonstrates how out of touch the Bush campaign is. Something like 70% of those polled at the time said Jeb should butt the fuck out of family's private end-of-life decisionmaking. Even if this would make the crazy fringe right love him and help him magically get nominated, it would be a huge anti-Bush bullet in the general election.
ReplyDeleteExactly. I don't think they should be reminding people of his most public humiliation. Guaranteed, that percentage would be even greater today.
DeleteWell, we know that Sarah Palin, and her mini-me daughter, will exploit any and all misfortune. All for a buck. Absolutely disgusting.
ReplyDeleteBeaglemom
We are surrounded by horrible Republicans! Just look at them - Jeb Bush, his brother, Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, etc. They all are scum as far as I'm concerned!
ReplyDeleteVote Hillary Clinton! Know I will!
Copyright laws need to be reviewed. Terri Schiavo is not a public figure.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, crass and low mentality clearly exhibited.
PMom_GA
If ol jub needs to promote life by going to Flint to help all those innocent victims.
ReplyDeleteNot one candidate will mention Flint until they have to start campaigning in Michigan and then it will be nothing but care and concern for Flint.
DeleteThis looks like a massive lawsuit in the making. For both the 'superpac' and little Jebbie's campaign. No way in hell they did this without his okay.
ReplyDeleteTo take care of Terri's kid(s) forever...
That's exactly what I thought!
DeleteI see the Right-to-Life sponsors of this ad don't use the exclamation point at the end of Jeb!'s name at the end.
ReplyDeleteBut flicker the B. Wonder what that means?
The word that comes to mind: "braindead". Who is running this campaign? I can't think of a worst idea as a campaign ad.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth 44
Once again, IMHO, they are subconsciously committing political suicide; some part of them knows they are frauds and should never hold office.
DeleteWell, Hillary's daughter Chelsea approves of Jeb's American values!
ReplyDeleteFUCK HER. And FUCK JEB BUSH.
That is the most idiotic statement I've seen so far today. Get some education!
DeleteGood grief!! You are probably the only one who has a clue what you are talking about. A bit early to be sipping the sauce!!
DeletePat Padrnos
A simple phone call, "do you mind if we...", before exploiting a dead woman's image is not just polite. It would have avoided the loathing now being heaped on Jeb!?!!!
ReplyDeleteJeb!?????! himself had to approve that message. This shows a monstrous ego in a field of them. Trump and Cruz are every bit as heartless.
The Terry Schiavo situation was heart-rending for many people. They deserve some peace.
Fuck these people in the heart with Charlie Manson's dick.
ReplyDeleteThis is the only place I have seen this - so have not read any other comments other than these.
ReplyDeleteThis situation should not have been used in an ad. Really bad move. This is, no doubt, very upsetting to her family.
Pat Padrnos
Her family are wingers. They probably approve. They weren't interested in Terry's care until Michael Schiavo won a lawsuit about the cardiac arrest, and that money wasn't as much as they thought it was, and it went to pay for Terry's care while Michael went through the court system fighting her parents in order to allow Terry to finish dying, as she had said it was what she wanted.
DeleteHer husband, who won his battle to be the one to decide on her end-of-life care, despises Jeb! I think he's showing immense restraint.
Ha ha, Jeb!'s campaign isn't supposed to coordinate with the Superpac, but you are all blaming Jeb! for this horrid ad. LOL
ReplyDeleteLikewise Ted Cruz, but he does.
DeleteYou and I know that but the danger with Super PACs is that most people don't know that they can't coordinate with the candidate, by law, but whatever propaganda they air can certainly end up reflecting poorly on the candidate, not that Jeb! needs any help looking bad.
DeleteThanks for reminding me why I hate the Bushes so much.
ReplyDeleteSaw this on local station a few weeks ago and was beyond horrified.
ReplyDeleteKey words here: "isn't supposed to". Hmm. LOL
ReplyDelete"He's a man of great faith," my ass. He's a desperate nasty prick who's being clobbered by a New York egomaniac, and he can't even carry his own state.
ReplyDeleteThere ain't a walking upright, breathing politician in this country that believes in any fuckin' god but money. We should all throw up a little in our mouths when they drag the god talk into their rhetoric, but at least the Democrats try to stop short of saying Jesus whispered in his or her ear and said, "You are my anointed, you must run."
I can't stand Jeb! Bush or any of the other Republican candidates, so wouldn't vote for him anyways. However, I think this ad is disgusting, pandering, desperate, horribly insensitive to Shiavo's family. I don't know if the husband has any recourse to sue Bush, but if he does, id be glad to contribute to his legal fund.
ReplyDeleteJust one small correction. Terry Schiavo had no children with Michael.
ReplyDeleteSorry Gammyjill, you are right.
DeleteI don't know why I thought she had a child.
Maybe because Michael Schiavo has two or three children with his second wife and they got together when Terry was still alive. Terry's asshole parents and siblings made a big deal out of it.
DeleteTerry was dead when Michael Schiavo got together when his second wife. Only her body was still animate.
DeleteAt least the JEB! campaign has the courtesy to remind us of his abject horribleness. I predict it won't be long before JEB! is relaxing on Florida Bay in his leaky ol' jon boat, suckin' down a couple o'cold brewskis, and quietly reflecting on how much the world hates his unindicted war criminal brother and dislikes him.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your retirement, JEB! You earned it.
Why?
ReplyDeleteLet the poor woman rest in peace. Not that they're on the same level, but our family cat is buried in our yard, and to this day, when I see an old family photo with her there, I apologize to her memory and remember the good times, but that's my choice, and I'm not trying to get political or monetary points.
Pose with your brother, then show photos of Abu Gareb, innocent civilians, hurricane katrina, Cindy Sheehan, and the soldiers coming home with missing limbs, in body bags and coffins. But nooooooooooooo he's got to go way back and exploit a woman who died at the expense of her surviving parents and family (except her husband, his life insurance payout, new wife, and kids).
Fark You, Jeb, and not in the good way, jerk.
"He's a man of deep faith who fought time and again for the right to life."
ReplyDelete--------------------------
What life? A brain dead person kept alive by machines? I thought these Christian nuts were not afraid to die because they were going to see Heaven, God and Jesus.
These ignorant medieval torturers consider a beating heart to be "life". That's why they want to force women carrying babies with no brains to carry their dead children to term.
DeleteJeb!'s campaign is now dead in the water. If he wasn't done before he is certainly done now. That is so offensive to so many on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the GOP going to do now that they don't have Jeb! to put up during their brokered convention? Who were they planning to make the puppet king? Rubio? Or have they simply given up and resigned themselves to having to support Trump?
