Sarah Palin's Today Show interview goes down in flames. Update!

Courtesy of Business Insider:

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) bristled during a Monday interview on NBC's "Today" show when she was pressed about her provocative comments about her son's arrest and post-traumatic stress disorder.

"You guys brought me here to talk about Iowa politics and the caucus tonight — not to talk about my kids," Palin said. "And that was a promise. But as things go in the world of media, you guys don't always keep your promises, evidently."

"It's a shame that our military personnel even have to wonder, if they have to question if they're respected anymore. It starts from the top," she said then. "The question, though, it comes from our own president, when they have to look at him and wonder, 'Do you know what we go through?'"

During her Monday "Today" interview, Palin said she wasn't blaming President Barack Obama with her comments.

"What did I say that is offensive?" she said after host Matt Lauer asked if she regretted what she said at the Trump rally.

"I don't regret any comment that I made because I didn't lay PTSD at the foot of the president," Palin added. "I did say, though — and suggested very adamantly — that there is much more that our commander in chief could do to prove that he respects our troops and let them do their job."

Palin further criticized the hosts for not having her exact quote.

"If you guys have a specific quote, it allows the media to be more credible," she said.

Matt Lauer then said that the Today Show had NEVER promised to avoid asking questions about Track's arrest or her comments on PTSD.

This was Palin's response:

Well, I was told that this interview is about the caucus tonight in Iowa. And right on, who will it be to put America back on the right track and restore constitutional government that we are lacking today and that we so need? And I said, "Right on, let me go talk about that. Sure."

Okay well let me just say that I take back all of my recent criticisms of the Today Show and Matt Lauer.

THIS is exactly the kind of interview that I was hoping for and did not expect to see.

Just watch Palin's face when they ask those questions about Track.

Update: Here is Palin on MSNBC this morning.  (I guess she did not learn her lesson yet.)

"I can do and say whatever I want."

Please do, that always works out SO well for you.

If $arahSaysPayme had not inserted Track's arrest for domestic violence at a political rally during which endorsed Trump, no one in the media would have asked her that question.

But Lauer said "we never made promises about the content of the interview" or something to that effect. Anyhoo, I'm thrilled that she got thoroughly humiliated, it showed just how she cannot think on here feet if she gets unexpected questions. She probably talked with some low-level producer, who asked her to come talk about the Iowa caucuses. No one in a major news organization would promise not to raise other questions -- especially questions about what she'd said a week ago about how the president's disrespect of the military makes them feel so bad when they come back from battle. She said it -- it was fair game, and she should have been prepared to answer it. Or to have a quick response that would put it to rest, and then change the subject to how great Trump is.
Her brain simply can't jump from one topic to another fast enough. And her anger just overrides everything she says or does.

“I can talk personally about this, I guess it’s kind of the elephant in the room,” Palin said. “My son like so many others, they come back a bit different, they come back hardened, they come back wondering if there is that respect for what it is that their fellow soldiers and airmen and every other member of the military so sacrificially have given to this country. And that starts from the top. It’s a shame that our military personnel even have to wonder, if they have to question, if they’re respected anymore. It starts from the top. The question though that comes from our own president where they have to look at him and wonder, do you know what we go through? Do you know what we’re trying to do to secure America and to secure the freedoms that have been bequeathed us?"

“I can certainly relate with other families who kind of feel these ramifications of some PTSD and some of the woundedness that our soldiers do return with,” Palin continued. “And it makes me realize more than ever it is now or never for the sake of Americas finest that we have that commander in chief that will respect them and honor them.”

She does not live her supposed faith - she lies - is a fraud - is unethical - doesn't work - doesn't like to work - takes other people's money and lives off it - said she birthed that poor child that lives with her or in Bristol's house, when she didn't - screwed around on her husband while married - brought Track into the world as Todd's child when he actually is the son of Curt Menard - lives the lie she actually has a marriage (where is Todd?), etc.

I'm sure we are going to learn more and more untruths she has pushed as time moves along!

What about the people whom she's been paying off to keep their mouths shut? She can't keep paying them forever! Did she and Todd commit murder (of the nurse)? Did Todd kill Curt Menard when his airplane crashed in Alaska? (Supposedly by putting water in his gasoline that Curt used for his plane!).

Neither Todd nor Sarah has admitted their part in running a house of prostitution in Anchorage (with Todd actually using the sexual services of Shailey Tripp as his prostitute). Shailey published a book "Boys Will be Boys" that admits to all of it - with facts and proof. The house of ill repute was also used by politicians (during the McCain run that she and he lost), the Anchorage Police and Anchorage FBI according to Shailey Tripp. None of her facts have ever been proven otherwise and the Palins never sued her as to the statements made in her book! It's a good read too!

Note too that Bristol named her son (Levi's kid), Tripp, spelled exactly the same as Shailey "Tripp"! She could have dropped one of the 'p's' and there would never have been the connection!

Sarah and Todd Palin are monsters - both individually and as a couple and whether married or not!

Wasn't she just complaining on her FB page about how we need more "refreshingly unscripted interviews" in this campaign season and we need to stop using "poll-tested rehearsed memes" that are so frustrating (which is rich, coming from bumper-sticker-Barbie). So she gets one unscripted question about a statement she made during a campaign endorsement speech, and she can't handle it. Instead she acts like a child and whines "you promised not to ask me about that." So, which is it, Sarah. Do you want candid, unscripted interviews or not?

  48. Well, as usual, nothing that jingle-brained nincompoop says contributes squat to the political discourse, so... about her looks.

What is with the large, cumbersome blankie? Everyone else, including the people in the background, looks neat and tidy.

She likes black and tan as a color combination. Why? It is a difficult look for anyone, and she is no exception. Her face looks muddy and sallow.

When she had her expensive (but in retrospect, vastly underpaid) makeup artist and stylist in 2008, her makeup and clothing colors and tones were as flattering as possible. Now, for someone as vain and ambitious as she is, she looks downright drab. Most women, given the opportunity, would have learned a great deal about how to look their best, but it all just rolled right off of her.

Also too,Tundradunce thinks she is working her way back into the big time. That ugly jutting jawed sneer was very obvious.

She will be darting around the fringes of Power Town right up until the election, presenting a more pathetic sight than any social climber trying to shimmy her way from street corner to high society.

Right off the bat in the interview she commits a Palinism by referring to a "respiration of constitutional government." It kind of makes sense if you believe the constitution is on life support and needs oxygen. I think she actually meant "restoration of constitutional government." But whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Anonymous7:14 AM

It was interesting to see someone in the media, surprisingly Matt Lauer, push back against Sarah Palin’s default claim of media bias. The question was fair, and it was not a question about her kids. Accusing the media of attacking her children is Palin 101. Sarah Palin doesn’t want reality mixing in with her fantasy of All American Christiany conservative who is fighting for the Constitution and family values.

Palin did blame Obama for her son’s arrest, and for PTSD. Here is what Sarah Palin said while endorsing Trump, “It starts from the top, the question though it comes from our own president when they have to look at him and wonder, do you know what we go through, do you know what we’re trying to do to secure America and to secure the freedoms that have been bequeathed us? So when my own son is going through what he goes through coming back, I can certainly relate with other families who feel these ramifications of some PTSD and some of the woundedness that our soldiers do return with.”

What happened on NBC’s Today was a classic Sarah Palin train wreck. Instead of touting her candidate on caucus day, the interview was all about Palin. Judging from Lauer’s reaction to Palin’s accusation of bias, the Alaska quitter might have torched her bridge with the Today show.

Caucus day is not off to a good start for Donald Trump as his highest profile surrogate went nutter on national television.

I knew I didn't need to watch the show this morning and boost their ratings. It was a known fact that Sarah Palin would screw it up in some manner and once again, she did!

The woman has no common sense whatsoever! And, she has a very difficult time containing her anger!

Can you even fathom what it is like living with her? She has got to be a nightmare in the confines of her home on the dead lake in Wasilla!

Is there any wonder why her older kids have turned out so badly? And, where is Todd - did he run from the hills - are they divorced - appears he got the hell out of dodge and isn't carrying her purse any longer.

My recommendation is for her to stay in Wasilla! She's no longer a media star - a practicing Christian - a politician - a good wife - or a good mother!

Americans and Alaskans are sooooo sick and tired of her! She is an embarrassment to our country and the majority of Americans only view her as a joke!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anonymous7:18 AM

...Palin seemed under the impression that she was allowed to dictate what the hosts asked her about. Hosts Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie weren’t having it.

Palin, who often claims the media is against her by asking her questions she doesn’t know the answers to, got off to a rocky start almost immediately, when the hosts challenged her on several issues that made both Trump and Palin look like raging hypocrites. At one point, a frustrated Palin asked the hosts “Who are we to judge one another’s level of Christian faith?” – the scalding steam of irony coming from a person who once spent a great deal of time trying to suggest President Obama was a secret Muslim was hot enough to melt steel.

...As usual, Palin uses her own victim-complex serve as a security blanket she can hide under when questions get to tough. Palin has repeatedly blamed President Obama for hurting the troops. That’s a serious accusation and a fair one for reporters to question. The criticisms themselves may be pathetic, but her refusal to tolerate any pushback on them is even more embarrassing.

If Trump had hoped Palin would be a big asset to his campaign, so far it hasn’t appeared that way. At almost every appearance, Palin’s performance has been a trainwreck. On the TODAY show, she was at least able to string two sentences together without devolving into a hopeless word salad, but it’s pretty sad that this is considered a victory for her. She still came across looking angry, bitter, and clueless.

According to Sarah, the reason McCain lost in 2008 is because she was being shackled by the GOP:
Later on "Today," Palin told Willie Geist she's happy to be back in presidential politics without the "shackles" she apparently had while running with John McCain.
"You've never really had shackles though, have you, governor?" Geist asked.
"Well, they tried eight years ago," she said, referring to her own party.
"And that was kind of part of the problem, why things didn't end up going so well."
Trump has said he wouldn't rule out Palin as his VP.

    5. She is the one who brought her son into the political conversation. She is the one who pointed out her son and ascribed the cause of his actions to the President. So, yes, that is a valid topic of discussion.

Also, "kid"? He is closer to 30 than 20 (26). He is not a fresh-faced young lad just trying to make his way to adulthood. He is a grown man and his latest activities were not private, but are part of the public record.

He personally might not be seeking publicity, but he needs to tell his mother to leave him out of her attacks on the President.

He also, himself, should probably not choose to (apparently) commit criminal acts which are in fact public records. That responsibility is his and his alone.

They were asking her about public comments she made about her son, comments about an issue that went beyond him and his case. I feel bad for Track (not because of the domestic violence, but because his mother can't keep her big mouth shut).

Track Palin committed a crime and that's public record. Sarah Palin should have said "no comment, please give my son and my family privacy" in the first place. Then none of this would have happened and she would be in her rights to tell the Today show to go to hell.

      Delete
    8. Anonymous7:56 AM

Come on..SHE inserted him into the conversation when she was on stage wallowing in the Trump endorsement. And he is no 'kid.' He's 27. When Bush's girls were out drinking it was reported on. Are we supposed to pretend that Sarah's kids are all stable, working and educated, instead of the divorced, children out of wedlock, barely literate, drunks that they are? Because she was Governor for two years? Please.

But she mentioned Track as the "elephant in the room" during her Trump endorsement. She could have let that alone, but she didn't. So it's perfectly fair to ask her, one week later, what her comments meant. She couldn't defend them, and clearly couldn't remember what she herself had actually said.
Bristol has put herself out there numerous times, and is fair game. Track is fair game because he was arrested for being drunk, punching his girlfriend in the face, and having a firearm while drunk. That's the public record -- completely valid to ask about.

Can you imagine this scenario: Trump pays Palin to endorse him, pulling the rug out from under Ted Cruz? I can. We already know that Palin will do pretty much anything for fame or fortune. And Trump is a genius when it comes to manipulation. Think about it. Trump knows he has to woo the religious right, but commits a major faux pas during his Liberty University address yesterday, exposing his ignorance of the Bible by referring to “Two Corinthians.” The media was all over his bullshit like flies to dung, and it becomes headline news.

He doesn’t want this story to get legs, so he has to do something to shift the narrative—quickly. In comes Sarah Palin, stage left. The darling of Christian conservatives is written into the script STAT. Without missing a beat, he manipulated the storyline to one that is all about him and his pal Palin who likes to pray. A lot. His pathetically shallow grasp of religion is all but forgotten the very next day. Now that religious base that he so desperately needs is starry eyed again. And lets not forget what Trump has to say about about the Bible, which he likes to compare to other books. He expounds: “The Bible blows them away. There’s nothing like it, the Bible.” So profound. Spoken like a true bullshitter. I mean 'believer'.
