So Donald Trump is now in a war of words with the most popular Pope in a generation. Is THIS finally a step too far for "the Donald?"

So apparently the Pope had some things to say about Donald Trump during his visit to Mexico.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Inserting himself into the Republican presidential race, Pope Francis on Wednesday suggested that Donald J. Trump “is not Christian” because of the harshness of his campaign promises to deport more immigrants and force Mexico to pay for a wall along the border.

“A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,” Francis said when a reporter asked him about Mr. Trump on the papal airliner as he returned to Rome after his six-day visit to Mexico.

Well Trump is a reasonable fellow so I am sure he will be....what's that, he attacked the Pope on Facebook?

Courtesy of Trump-book:

In response to the Pope:

If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk, no action politicians.

The Mexican government and its leadership has made many disparaging remarks about me to the Pope, because they want to continue to rip off the United States, both on trade and at the border, and they understand I am totally wise to them. The Pope only heard one side of the story - he didn’t see the crime, the drug trafficking and the negative economic impact the current policies have on the United States. He doesn’t see how Mexican leadership is outsmarting President Obama and our leadership in every aspect of negotiation.

For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful. I am proud to be a Christian and as President I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now, with our current President. No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith. They are using the Pope as a pawn and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so, especially when so many lives are involved and when illegal immigration is so rampant.

Donald J. Trump

Is Trump encouraging an ISIS attack on the Vatican here?

Because THAT is kind of how this sounds.

Okay now come on, Trump cannot really take on Pope Francis like this and not lose at least SOME of his support, right?

  1. WalterNeff2:06 PM

Frankly, it's a step too far for the Pope.

    1. Anonymous2:21 PM

Fuck you. Donald Trump is a disgusting human who embodies the absolute opposite of anything that could remotely be called Christian. So,again I say fuck you. And I mean it, seriously.

    2. Anonymous2:42 PM

@2:21, the Pope is not any more sacrosanct than DT. Get over yourself.

    3. Anonymous2:46 PM

No, it's another step too far for the raging narcissistic, juvenile bully.

    4. Anonymous2:48 PM

He's going to hell for that! Even Sista Sarah's prayer warriors can't save his ass! Seriously how fucking disrespectful is this? And dangerous? Can you imagine him as potus going around disrespecting heads of state and starting petty wars over nothing?
      Holy fuck!
The guy is a flippin idiot!
The RNC must pull him! He is not potus material, not that any of the others is, but I can't imagine any of them doing this? Its surreal.

    5. Anonymous2:59 PM

I think Saree gave him some bad meth or what not, he's gone over the bend...

    6. Anonymous3:03 PM

Rubio just screwed the pooch! Sides with tRump!

    7. Anonymous3:12 PM

      Please proceed, Donald.

    8. Anonymous3:21 PM

Frankly, I don't think there is a "too far" for these idiots.
Saw this you tube the other day, ignore the illumati crap take from it what you will...
There is no hope for these people and, tRUMP is another pied piper of hate just like "our sarah" was in 08 and is to this day... hateful little harpy.
"Fox news has rewired the Repub brain in the worst way possible"

    9. Anonymous3:51 PM

I agree with WalterNeff. It's not up to the Pope to decide who is Christian enough.

    10. Anonymous2:34 AM

      @WalterNeff 2:06 PM

'Frankly, it's a step too far for the Pope.'
I agree with you. I think the Pope has NO BUSINESS sticking his nose in United States politics.

    11. Anonymous2:36 AM

Stay in your own lane, Pope. U.S. policies and politics are NOT your business. You are not a U.S. citizen.

    12. Anonymous9:24 PM

Catholic Church is the most powerful organized criminal family in the world!
Get over it already and down on your knees BITCHES!

  2. Anonymous2:08 PM

Maybe he should shoot the pope on fifth avenue and see what happens then.

    1. Anonymous3:20 PM

How about Donald Trump? The Pope is needed in our world today and Trump is not!

    2. Anonymous9:06 PM

I must respectfully disagree, 3:20pm. I do not think someone who represents the misogyny & disrespect for women is needed in the world today, even if it's the Pope. Peace.

  3. I wish the pope had not jumped into the fray.

    1. Irishgirl2:58 PM

Really, the rest of the world is watching this clown show with horror. The GOP will not do anything about climate change. We do have children and hopefully grandchildren who will be able to live on this planet. The GOP is fucking it up for everyone. It is time for everyone to speak up about the damage that the GOP will inflict on citizens in other countries. We can't vote, but we sure as hell are affected by GOP policies.

    2. Anonymous3:15 PM

Agree! Thanks, IG. The GOP is ruining the USA's fabric and image. I appreciate the Pope trying to save us. And I'm against the Pope on reproductive rights (I'm pro-choice), But we need all the int'l help we can get!

    3. Anonymous3:19 PM

I think the Republicans are going to get theirs - which they so richly deserve. Things are starting to go against them - McConnell in Congress especially for being such an obstructionist. This is going to be fun to watch!

Trump won't be elected (IF he gets the nomination?) and many in Congress will not be reelected. Just watch!

Start with Lisa Murkowski, Alaskans! She needs to go!

    4. Irishgirl4:09 PM

I'm pro-choice too and I couldn't tell you the last time I went to mass, apart from a funeral or a wedding. I think I was about 16 when I rebelled. I still like this pope.

  4. Anonymous2:15 PM

Sarah Palin who do you back? Your Money God or your Christian God?

    1. Anonymous9:26 PM

neither she is busy humping the air!

  5. Anonymous2:21 PM

A recent poll, with the smallest GOP field to-date, gives Cruz a slight edge over Trump. As someone on the news put it, there is a "high floor but a low ceiling" to Trump's poll numbers. He might have 30-35% in the bag, but the remaining 65-70% is pretty much ABT. As the field thins, it will coalesce. Hopefully not in support of Cruz -- who, as Jimmy Carter pointed out, is scarier in many ways than Trump because he actually believes the sh*t he says.

  6. Anonymous2:27 PM

Sorry, but I have heard many Fundie Christians say... Catholics are not Christian, so I am sure Trump will only rise in esteem with this group.

    1. This belief isn't unusual.

I asked the question of my sixth graders during a social studies lesson and there were quite a few that didn't believe Catholics were Christians. They lump them in with Mormons and 7th Day Adventists.

  7. Anonymous2:29 PM

I read some of the comments from the Tramp supporters. They are actually demanding that the pope (religion) stay out of politics. Lol.

  8. AKinPA2:30 PM

Everyone knows this pope is illegitimate because he doesn't subscribe to the gospel of the Republican Jesus. So this will do Trump no harm. In fact it may draw some fundamentalists away from Cruz since they tend to hate catholics.

  9. I find it interesting that so many christians are getting weak-kneed about the Pope calling out Trump. I'm an atheist---but if I was a religious leader and recognized an emerging threat (Trump), I would call it by its name and not be so damned namby pamby.

Americans tend to see our political process only through the lens of what it means to us. The rest of the world looks at our process and says---what will it mean to the planet.

    1. Then why didn't he call out Cruz who wanted to bomb the middle east until the sands glowed?

I'll bet Rubio said some equivalently hateful and "unChristian" things.

Why did he single out Trump?

Well, because he was in Mexico and they don't want a wall to keep out illegals.

  10. Anonymous2:34 PM

Thank you Donald for giving us another example of how you react to criticism from world leaders.

Not very presidential, but very childish and getting to be very boooring.

    1. Anonymous3:01 PM

      EXACTLY! Very well put!!

  11. "No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith."

Isn't that what the YAM (what I call Trump) was doing to Cruz - saying he's not a Christian? Is he even aware what he says day to day, minute to minute?

  12. Anonymous2:44 PM

Donald Trump is a Xian? No f'ing way! Serial adultrist, and multiple divorces are just the start. And idiots are buying into his bullshit antics.

    1. Anonymous9:28 PM

      Cannibalism with Ping Pang Pong!

  13. Caroll Thompson2:52 PM

That kind of talk might play well in the primary, but it will hurt in the general. Catholics comprise 22% of the population of the United States.

Trump has lost the Latinos, he has lost many women, he has lost all the Muslims and now he is working on losing the Catholics. This is not a good strategy for being elected President.

  14. Anonymous2:57 PM

2:27 -- You're absolutely right. As a Jesuit-educated Catholic (now agnostic),I have to say--the Pope is so far beyond this guy, it is ridiculous to even compare. But the fundies will just eat up The Donald's words. They are so incredibly stupid.

In addition, Pope Francis has a degree in chemistry, and he worked as a bouncer in a nightclub to pay his tuition.

So yeah, what a loser, eh, Donnie baby?

    1. Anonymous4:04 PM

I agree that the Pope is so far beyond Trump with respect to misogyny. Trump will really have to up his game in the women hating dept. to compete with the Pope.

(Not Jesuit-educated but sure as hell suffered through the crap Catholic education inflicted by my diocese.)

    2. Anonymous5:45 PM

      Anonymous2:57 PM

2:27 -- You're absolutely right. As a Jesuit-educated Catholic (now agnostic),I have to say--the Pope is so far beyond this guy
Oh yeah! And I don't think Pope Francis meant "Christian" like these fakers here he meant it like a way of life (donnie would never know what it is to be Christian PERSON has nothing to do with Religion)
For him to just spew "I'm a christian" bla, bla, bla is so much BS the pope has called out all these "fake xtians" before, that is why they don't like him.
And spiritually there IS NO comparison to the POPE/tRump.
NONE! And his idiot followers are Neanderthals, stupid hateful, gun toting idiots.
It is pathetic and sad to see 'merika going down this road that Sarah was the pied piper for...
I see you 2:57 and I have hope and there are plenty here on IM that are not "Religious" in the "church sense" but are "Christian" meaning they will go out of their way to help, seek the good in people if they can find it and are spiritual.
It has nothing to do with church and all to do with your heart. I think that is what Pope Francis meant, calling out tRump for being a heartless, gutless, SOB, faker, liar, and not a nice, or even good person.

    3. Anonymous9:11 PM

The Pope, and thus the Catholic church is far more misogynistic than even a sorry bastard such as Trump. I don't see Trump forbidding birth control and he kinda sorta defended PP in the last debate.

  15. Anonymous2:58 PM

Okay, I'm an atheist, but I have a few thoughts on what the Pope said. First of all, he referred to building walls instead of bridges, so he was speaking rhetorically. Secondly, who else is in a better position to question another person's faith than a religious leader?? Oh, Donald Trump himself, who has questioned Cruz's (frankly nutty) Christianity more than once. And will it hurt him? Probably only with Hispanics and Catholics in general, since the southern evangelicals won't give a shit, but that is no small thing. The Pope was standing up for disadvantaged Mexicans while in Mexico. Keep on insulting those of Mexican descent there, Donald! Let's see how that works out for you in the end!

  16. Anonymous2:59 PM

DM says Dakota is the father!

  17. Anonymous3:06 PM

OT, but Daily Mail has just published that results are back and Dakota IS the father.
But Bristol contends that because Meyer lives in Kentucky and she lives in Alaska, shared physical custody may not be 'practicable and agrees to a 'decree of shared legal custody except that, due to geographic distance, in the event of a dispute, Palin shall have final say.'

She [his grandmother] added: 'He will be a father to his child and he'll be a good one he's just got to get this girl and the law to agree.'

Unbelievable...."in the event of a dispute, Bristol will have the final say" hahahah.

    1. First of all Bristol Palin says Dakota is the father. And we know how truthful she is. Her whole family are saints that would burn in hell before breaking one of the commandments.

Second, I'm sure she one of the reasons Dakota will be denied any sort of custody is so that he will be required to pay even MORE child support. Bristol needs it because she can't milk Levi any more.

Third, Dakota can't have any sort of custody or even visitation without supervision because if he has Sailor for even a few hours he'll have his own DNA tests done by an independent lab outside the control of the Palins.

Lastly, I doubt Dakota will agree to any of that final say shit.

    2. Anonymous9:30 PM

about to lose that HUGE account Brissy?

  18. Anonymous3:13 PM

Pope Francis is far smarter than The Donald - has more knowledge of history - is watching the entire world (countries) and how (and how it doesn't) work together - what 'supposed' leaders say, watches the racism shown throughout the world, watches how the leaders rule, has met many of them and had discussions with them individually, knows his Catholic population (and the millions of poor amongst them!) etc.

Pope Francis nailed The Donald's big hinny to the wall! And, The Donald is crying and whining like the baby he continually shows himself to be.

Thank God, Trump will NEVER be elected POTUS. Shit - now he seems to think ISIS wants to go after the Pope in Rome. Now he has the Catholics, Mexicans and Muslims voting block against him in America!

Donald Trump needs to be brought up short before he does any more damage to America and our world! He IS the likes of Adolph Hitler! Plus, I do not think Trump acts like a Christian and assuredly don't think he lives the life of a true Christian!

  19. Anonymous3:16 PM

The KKK was founded on a hatred of blacks, foreigners, and Roman Catholics. They've hated the Pope for more than 100 years. To those rabid Trump followers, this is music to their ears.
To the sane portion of the nation, Trump's rudeness will be a bridge too far.

    1. I think Trump knows his attacking the Pope will play well in the south.

    2. Anonymous9:32 PM

Ping Pang Pong has video of that cannibalism they did overseas! Heard he will post it!

  20. Anonymous3:31 PM

I can't stand Trump and I can't stand the pope/Vatican/etc. The Vatican has been judging people for centuries, Donald only for 69 years or so. Pot meet kettle.

    1. Anonymous9:32 PM

And they both will be broke in the End!

      One Who Made Palin Resign

  21. Anonymous3:32 PM

It's hard to choose which is the worst misogynist. And, yet, they both claim to be Christian. With these kind of people claiming to be Christian who would WANT to be Christian.

  22. Anonymous3:36 PM

The Vatican is basically a walled complex within a city.
    Just sayin.

  23. Anonymous3:38 PM

The pope has spoken out against Donald Trump and questions his faith.

Waiting for Satan to emerge and endorse his protégé.

Some say he will come from Wasilla.

    1. Anonymous9:34 PM

naw cuz the annointed one will kill him!
God said it would be authorized! hahaha

  24. Anonymous3:38 PM

    Is the world going nuts?

Now Donald Trump, Republican presidential contender, doing twitter battle with the Pope? Donald Trump has absolute no respect for anything; he upholds nothing dear to him, except HIMSELF.

If those Conferates and Bubbas think Donald cares about their guns, god and flags and constitutional rights, they'd better think again. He'll forget they exist, after they elect him. I'd be more afraid of an uprising from riotors of village idiots against a President Trump than Mexican migrants.

  25. Anonymous3:49 PM

  26. Anonymous3:59 PM

Trump is a high end fertilizer salesman. He is promoting his crap to the rubes without proving his stuff will produce as promised. Let the buyers beware.

  27. Anita Winecooler4:08 PM

Donald read this verbatim in as close to a frenzy as I've ever seen him, then showed a google photo of the Vatican, showing that it's completely surrounded by a wall. What's beyond Donald's comprehension is the Vatican, Ages ago, had land disputes with the then royal families, who thought they had the right to take it because it's part of Italy, It's not, it and it's Billions in antiquity, artwork, and precious medals, spoils of wars, etc etc. Trump is too stupid to realize he's the leader of a religion, is well educated, articulate and speaks several languages, some fluently. The Pope could buy and sell Trump in a heartbeat.
I'm not a christian by any means, but I do respect some religious leaders for their accomplishments and humanity. Me Thinks Mr Trump just flushed the Catholic and many christian votes down the toilet. If the pope is fair game, who's next?
And how vile to even hint at a terrorist hit.

    1. Anonymous3:30 AM

      Indeed. Well said.

  28. Anonymous4:12 PM

Nope. He won't lose support. The Pope will lose support because that is just how crazy Trump's supporters are.

    1. Anonymous6:44 PM

I doubt there are many Catholics within the Trump base - so, nothing to worry about for the Pope!

The Pope was spot on w/his statement about Trump! He does not act like a Christian! Plus, he's so much smarter than Trump could ever be. The Pope could run him around in circles with his knowledge of religion and the history of the world!

Trump will NEVER be elected POTUS. I totally agree with President Obama and VP Biden - both have stated they don't think he'll win the election if even nominated by the Republican Party. Boy, will that move will screw the Republican party for decades! Going to be fun to watch!

Rachel Maddow had a great interview with VP Biden today - he's such a neat, kind guy. He and President Obama match so well. Thank God, they've led us for the past near eight years!

  29. Anonymous4:23 PM

I'm sure the pope and decent human throughout the world does not condone a man who lusts after his own daughter's body and would date her. That is everyone except for a certain mother in Wasilla who worships her son's tattooed warrior body.

  30. Anonymous5:01 PM

Donald Trump offers Kanye West $10 million for him to have sex with Kim Kardashian. Talk about a black hole swallowing up gray matter!

  31. Anonymous5:03 PM

Jeepers, perhaps the Donald is the AntiChrist?

    1. Anonymous9:36 PM

with his cannibalism with Ping Pang Pong it's possible! but humanity can change that outcome
remember you have the power in your hands!

  32. Anonymous5:11 PM

Nope. This won't hurt Trump at all. The fundamental conservatives already hated the pope. Didn't $arah rant against him a while a back? They don't like the pope and they'll love Trump even more for taking him on.

At this point, Trump could strangle a six month old baby for crying during a Trump rally and his supporters would say "Trump is such a breath of fresh air! Babies today have this disgusting sense of entitlement and it's about time somebody stood up to the screaming six month old babies in this country!"

  33. Anonymous7:26 PM

    OT: While watching the Clinton-Sanders
Town Hall, Hillary is coughing quite a
bit. No throat problems here. Our Vegas
air is very dry with very low ,if any at all humidity. Singers who perform here
have humidifiers in their dressing rooms and hotel rooms. Republicans will try
to make something of it that she does not
have staying power to finish or to be president. They are already saying that she
is wearing her glasses again and is her
double vision back. Well, because of the
dry air, we also have dry eye problems
plus she is doing so much flying , sitting
in the cabins with recycled air. Glasses
help. We Vegas citizens always have a
bottle of water with us plus eye drops.

  34. I wrote a "bit" about Trump awhile back, in which I predicted he would add CATHOLICS to the ever growing list of people he hates.

It was supposed to be a JOKE.

Making fun of Republicans is so difficult, now, as their REALITY is so much crazier than any humor writer could ever come up with.

  35. Anonymous4:58 AM

This from a leader whose religion supported fascism so they could get their Vatican City. They have the blood of millions on their hands. It's about time some American politician told religious leaders to stay out of American politics.

  36. This is why Mexico forbids religion to stick it's nose in their politics. It's a criminal matter there and priests have been arrested.

As for the Pope, why didn't he call out Cruz for threatening to bomb the middle east flat and make the desert glow? How Christian was that?

Trump is looking for the Fundie vote. Dissing the Pope is a sure way to suck up to the teabaggers. He probably figures he'll gain more Fundies than lose Catholics. I heard a Southern Baptist on the news who was interviewed and thinks Trump is great.

  37. I can't wait to see what Stephen Colbert does with this tonight.

  38. Ruling the science is the usual urgency but the religion, guilty of the great disasters of the history, the impregnable rampart appears. In her, people find the motivations to massacre each other or to die in absolute poverty, to pursue a presumed internal quality. It cannot be continued so. The Christian monotheism, born when in Europe and in Africa few million of people lived, it reveals inadequate in demography of billion of individuals. The critical dilemma are that unchangeable cults, considered as wines that more grow old more become good, that arrogate to depositaries of any philanthropic ethical, depriving the secular society to being legitimated in important moral merits. The Catholic church is the model of it. We are concrete: different from the Protestants that of “shepherds” don’t have, that Catholic one is a desperate flock! Let us talk on the happenings of our times, where the cults determine the behaviours of the people as never happened before and the urgency to adjourn the role of the mysticism, pursues us from near. Must consider the religion, before overwhelm us!

Don't feed the trolls!
It just goes directly to their thighs.
