Utah man shoots and kills girlfriend in fight after Superbowl.

A Utah man shot and killed his girlfriend during an argument Sunday night after the Super Bowl.

The 41-year-old man called police shortly before 11 p.m. to report that he had shot his 30-year-old girlfriend after she pulled a knife on him, reported KSL-TV.

Police found the woman dead from multiple gunshot wounds when they arrived at the couple’s Riverdale apartment.

The woman has been identified in news reports as Jenna Manuel or Jenna Spinya, the mother of an 8-year-old daughter and longtime employee at an Ogden bar.

Investigators said the couple began arguing shortly after one of them returned from watching the Super Bowl with friends.

Okay first off "multiple gunshot wounds" does NOT sound like self defense to me.

Second this is yet another illustration as to why guns are the very LAST thing that should be purchased for self defense purposes.

There is such a thing as an "appropriate use of force." We teach this in self defense classes to educate students as to when they should use physical force and how much force should be applied to any given situation.

But with guns there is only one setting on the weapon, and that is death.

Contrary to what you might have learned from television Westerns guns are designed to kill, and if somebody gets wounded in the arm or the leg that usually means the shooter missed their initial target which is the torso. You know, where all of the vital organs are located.

Not only that but the death which rushes from the barrel of a gun is indiscriminate in that it can kill, not only its intended target, but anybody within a certain radius depending on its caliber and the environment in which it is fired.

That means that a person, even a child, minding their own business in another part of a house, or in the neighborhood, or even driving by on the street could be the victim of a billet fired in anger or out of fear.

Now I'm not saying that this man was not in imminent danger of being injured or even killed, but grabbing a gun to fend off a knife attack by somebody you are supposed to care about is a complete overreaction in my opinion.

And before you jump on me for not understanding the danger you should know that I have actually faced off against knife wielding combatants more than a few times, and in fact have a small scar right below my bellybutton and another on my hand.

In none of my situations, as scary as they might have been, did I pull out a gun to defend myself, and every one of the people who threatened or attacked me are still walking the earth to this day.

They did not have to die, they only had to be stopped, and I was able to manage that without taking a life, or really even doing a great deal of injury to my assailants.

That is what is meant by an appropriate use of force.

In these domestic situations , their are generally bigger issues.
Retreating, is many times, an option. And a smart one.
Threatening with a knife ("pulled a knife"),versus attacking are two different situations.
    Sounds a bit ominous?

The knife story might just be the guy's way of justifying himself. Who can tell if she really had a knife at all.

Kinda O/T but I loved in Utah many many years ago and the rate of alcoholism there is sky high. Many counties are 'dry' on Sunday so of course, people stock up to make sure they have enough to get though the weekend. And when you buy beer, the clerk always asks if you want that in a brown paper sack. God forbid your holier than thou neighbor's see you carrying in alcohol! And by the way, I've been in a bar or two in my time, from Seattle to Daytona, but the roughest one ever was ... you guessed it: in downtown Salt Lake City. Didn't stay long!

Malia has a post from the niece, who says the baby daddy is NOT Dakota, but that they are 'negotiating." What do they have on him?
Also, I keep remembering Sarah's "deep bench" crap and figured out why it bothered me. You only need a 'deep bench' when your starting lineup is lacking. Since we have two extremely good candidates, we don't need the clown show that the GOP has been hosting for months.

Anonymous 7:32: Thanks for calling this to our attention.

For those who haven't checked Bristol's IG page today, she has posted an image that reads: "SHOUTOUT TO GOD."
      https://www.instagram.com/bsmp2/?hl=en

      Her comment is:

      -- quote

for keeping me protected from what I thought I wanted, and giving me what I never knew I needed

      -- end quote

I may be just an Old Redneck but I guarantee this means the DNA tests show Dakota Meyer is NOT the daddy and Bristol is trying to put the best face on it. The "something I thought I wanted" was Dakota and the "what I never knew I needed" is Sailor.

That's industrial-grade bullshit, but, hey, if it makes here happy, it just tickles me to death.

      lol 9:03.

Someone, from here, sent deranged obsessive Malia a copy of 'fake cousins' post from here the other day. And superstar lawyer Malia simply posted it as if it were actual fact from a known family source. Which for anyone with any brains, knows is not true.

You guys shouldn't be so gullible. It is embarrassing.

I don't know if the cousin's comments are true or not. They are comments. I do agree they should not be taken so serious until they can pass muster.

I still think it sucks that John McCain never vetted Sarah Palin. I am still a believer in vetting.

Everyone can believe what they want. Everything needs to be vetted, that is all. Aunts, Uncles, friends, neighbors, cousins and all can say what they want to anonymously or with a tag. They do not need to give their name in public.

They can contact who they like and give them proof and the contact can say they know they are legit.

Didn't this cousin with the Ensure Aunt say she would contact Gryphen?

Are we to believe she did contact Gryphen and he says nothing? He does not have to give up a name. He can just say he is waiting to be contacted. He could say working on verification, or yes they are what they claim or no.

This fantastical lead 'story/report' as it is happening is becoming a game of some sort. It could be the best of intentions but going wrong now.

So how did he get to his gun and shoot her multiple times without getting stabbed or cut. I don't believe his story if he had the time or distance to shoot her then he had other options than just killing her.

Or he may miss Jordan and shoot one of the kids.

Why isn't there one family member that is concerned about all the guns, the Palins handling of guns, the atmosphere of anger and outbreaks? It would only take one decent family or friend, better if more would help those kids and get them out of a bad place.

I am also interested in the odd Palin pregnancies and how Bristol looks like she is repeating a pattern of tricks and lies in regard to pregnancy.

More so the guns and children issues seem to be more urgent and in need of attention.
Track may beat up 1000s of women but if he gets out of any legal matters that come up, it will be the same as if he never did anything. All the threats and dangers will just continue.

None of the children will be safe.

They don't have to live with the grand parents, parents or Track. They may just be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Even Piper is old enough to see the threats and do the right thing now. Get the younger ones out of harms way. Don't wait until someone is shot or hit again.

Tripp is old enough to know his uncle and his girlfriend are dangerous drunks. Children that age can be caring and responsible. Tripp does not have to leave his uncle/brother Trig in danger. Track and Jordan go to Bristol's house. Sailor does not need to be in danger from them. their sickness will get worse not better (using the Palin method of taking care of those diseases).

Dakota, father or not, would not care about a child in a house full of drunks and guns so he is useless. They say the Johnstons are responsible gun owners but they may care more about not interfering with drunk Track situation and all the guns.

The cousin can't do anything but write here so that is stuck and going no where.

Isn't there someone that cares about the children and will do what it takes?

It is never pointed out that many types of bullets are being made more deadly these days. too. May explain why there are fewer surviving getting shot.

There was an article about Maryland gun laws a few days ago.

Today two sheriff deputies were killed in Maryland by the same shooter who also was killed.

iF HE COULD REach for a gun, he could reach for a chair, a blanket, a jacket, a stuffed animal, etc. All of those can be non-=lethal defenses against a knife. And then retreat.

I remember from my kids going to Tae Kwan Do classes that the use of force is the last resort. As others have mentioned, even someone with no training whatsoever could use an object to knock the knife away, keep the knife from cutting distance, and in some cases talk the person down while biding time to escape, etc.
My BIL does detective work, and so much he's shown me from real life isn't reflected on television shows. This was clearly a case of rage/overkill, and I'm surprised someone in other apartments weren't injured.

Oh, come on, G. Cops use "multiple gunshot wounds" for self defense all the time. The last example I read about was a "naked, unarmed teen", who "lunged" at two cops, and of course, did not survive. And shockingly, part of the incident was caught on camera-but not the actual shooting part. So many methods of defending oneself from a naked, unarmed teen come to mind-taser, fists, turning around and getting into your patrol car, tackling him around his ankles..it just keeps happening.
