Another Todd Palin update courtesy of his incredibly unsympathetic "wife's" Facebook page.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist but they could literally be vising anybody in the hospital.
Courtesy of Nurse Ratched's Facebook page:

Thank you for lifting Todd up in prayer. He's still in ICU under care of a superbly skilled staff. A long surgery repaired numerous breaks in Todd's upper body, docs essentially lifted and secured every rib with steel bands, anchored the broken clavicle with plates and rods, set aside repair of a broken shoulder for later (also later are more minor things like ACL/MCL knee injuries), still mechanically inflating one collapsed lung while other bruised lung, liver, etc., are watched; chest drain is working overtime to keep things clear. (Damn, Todd was really injured badly. It's a good thing his wife was able to make it to his bedside.....you know, eventually.)

Requiring a bit more than our usual fix-all up here - Duct tape - some gnarly incisions to enter his innards will be reminders of how life can change in the blink of an eye. (And skating through TSA detectors with bionic parts will now be anything but the blink of an eye!)

(Mocking Todd for his injures, always a supportive and nurturing thing to do. Can't you just feel the love?)

So thankful for today's medical technology including 3-D X-rays, temporary pain blocks and epidurals. (Medical science, always so much more effective than prayer.) I'm voting for their continued use until a resting position is found that allows minimal wincing with each breath. (That's a hint that she expects you to share your pain meds with her Todd.)

We say Mat-Su Regional Hospital is the best place to start life - all our babies are Mat-Su born - and these ER and ICU days show our local medical experts are most outstanding at continuing life, too... by the grace of God. (And they are great at keeping secrets too, aren't they Sarah?)

It's all good though, and I hope whatever challenges you face today - physical, emotional, financial - you'll have confidence in the care around you, and you'll apply Todd's consistent advice: "Don't sweat the small stuff."  (Small stuff?)

Your care for Todd is more appreciated than I can express. Thank you. And thank you to the still-mysterious snowmachiner(s) who came upon the wreck and provided critical help that night. I hope to meet you soon!

- Sarah — at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.

Wait! She hasn't met the "bystander" who found her husband broken and bleeding in the woods?

How is that possible?

Now there is a guy who has a story to tell that I imagine is worth a pretty penny.

Okay so here we are coming up on a week since the accident and we STILL have not seen a picture of a damaged showmachine or for that matter a damaged Todd Palin.

Seeing Willow and Piper on a hospital bed does nothing to convince people used to the lies coming from the Palin family of the severity of Todd's injuries.

I'm not saying that he is not hurt, but you know what they say on the internet, "pictures or it never happened."

“gnarly incisions to enter his innards ... “ What an odd way to describe the effects of a surgical procedure involving a loved one. The lack of empathy and straight-up detachment is mind boggling. She is entirely without a soul.

Really?! RILLY? According to YOUR BOOK TriG could NOT be born at MatSu! he needed a NICU which MATSU didn't have then. Also too didn't you mention ONCE he was born in Anchorage? You know the place that DOES have NICU!?!

Her flippant attitude towards Todd's injuries are all part of her Alaskan-tough-gal schtick.
More intriguing is why she delayed getting back to Alaska. Maybe Todd's real woman was with him when he wrecked, called the ambulance, went to the hospital with him and Sarah had to wait for her to get out of the way before she arrived on the scene.

There is a pattern with Bristol and kids when it comes to incidents in the Palin family.

At all cost Sarah does not want to bring up Bristol.

Bristol removed it after Track's episode.

The point is there is a pattern with Bristol and her kids.

She posts pictures of her kids with men in her family like the men are good role models.

      Next some incident occurs.

Those are hospital issued socks for people who are at a fall risk. These people are not supposed to be walking around by themselves - a trained nurse or other trained attendant needs to be with them when they walk around. (Makes me ask: how can he walk around with ACL and MCL damage that needs surgery?)

      Delete
    5. Anonymous3:28 PM

We would haul pts into the chair on the vent and with chest tubes every day. I've even gotten open heart surgery pts out of bed the day of surgery. Many hospitals have hydraulic lifts to move pts in and out of bed. I've cared for a LOT of difficult pts and nightmare family members but I think I would quit before taking on 12 hrs of that bunch.

On the Matsu hospital site it says about their ICU:
Our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has a total of 14 private rooms
This picture, if anything, is NOT in a private room. Someone else, probably Bristol, is sitting in a chair or on a bed, wearing those hospital socks (Todd certainly wouldn't be wearing them right now!), one upsidedown to make sure we notice they're hospital socks.
In ICU it's usually quite darkened and noone is allowed to just sit there, laugh and shoot the breeze!

      Delete
  8. sewnup1:49 PM

No ICU I've ever worked in would have had room on a bed for visitors to sit, and every one had a one-at-a-time rule except for actual end of life cases. Most often there are serious time limits on the amount of time a visitor may come in (there is rarely room to work around bystanders no matter they want to be there) Never worked where people could sit on the beds in ICU, much less long enough to carry on laughing, which hardly seems appropriate anyway. Something fishy there.

Yup. Agree. I work in a hospital. In ICU, you have the bed, and you ahve a chair for a visitor. Usually visitors are limited to one or two, and only for a short time. Visitors are NOT to sit on a patient's bed.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous3:34 PM

One of the reasons I left ICU after over 30 years was the change from restricted visiting to open visitation where there were visitors in the ICU ALL the time. It's been a big push nationwide for "Family centered care". Check out aacn.org if you don't believe me. We tried everything to try to limit the visitors. Most of the time they snuck back in so eventually, the staff just gave up. All management did was buy love seats that converted into beds.

New commenter (RN) here because I just have to comment on this ridiculousness. I looked up the hospital and it says they have 14 private rooms in their ICU. No ICU I ever worked in had 2 beds in a private room. Also, visitors are not allowed to sit on beds! What is the other bed doing in a private ICU room anyway? The yellow sock on the right foot is on wrong also. The rubbery traction part goes on the bottom of the foot. I do not see a chest tube drainage container. Someone commented above there definitely is one in the picture below the bed?

They need to have the accident report and pictures from the 13th. Pictures of the scene at Cubby's. Pictures of the investigators tracking the area where bystander tells them it happened.

Good guess that no law enforcement was involved. I would think the Emergency Responders would have to report the incident if no one else did. That is probably why the "mysterious snowmachiners" disappeared. They didn't want anything to do with any law enforcement officials.

Exactly! There must be or will be an official report of the accident, the driver, the time, the circumstances, who responded, what steps were taken at the site of the accident to stabilize the patient, etc. Those would be public documents.

It looks like this is more a crime than an accident.

Can't the AST start their investigation now? It looks like the bystander and criminals did not want to call troopers at the time.

      Delete
    6. Anonymous3:29 PM

@2:38 PM If they are so good at covering their tracks, what happens to the official report? All of the media coverage brings into question what was done by the state troopers in regards to an accident report. Serious injuries like those which could cause death do not go unreported.

      Delete
    7. Anonymous3:40 PM

I don't think Troopers were involved as they no longer have a post near Talkeetna and unless one was on road duty near the accident they would have loaded him up for medical care and not waited for Troopers.

If someone called 911 dispatch they would have sent a Talkeetna ambulance to transport him to the nearest hospital that could stabilize him. Talkeetna ambulance service has two locations near there that serve as Mat-Su EMS responders.

I had posted on an old thread that you can listen to live Mat-Su 911 radio broadcasts online but you have to sign up of premium paid account to listen to their archives.

Our "regional hospital," probably the same size as Mat-Su, does not, repeat not, have an ICU or surgical staff to handle injuries such as Todd's. He'd be taken to the Anchorage hospital, which is equipped for such care.

Correct me if I'm wrong, if you live in Wasilla/Palmer/etc., but a regional hospital simply can't address serious cases.
That's why they're called "regional." The difficult and life-threatening cases are sent to the nearest large hospital which is equipped for just this kind of accident.

And any hospital with an ICU doesn't have the space or the inclination to have two silly girls sitting on an empty bed taking photographs and laughing. They're clearly not anywhere near their father. And, what's so funny?

Next to our patients, our patients' friends and family members are the most important people we know. Spending time with someone who cares during a hospital stay stimulates smiles and lifts spirits–on both sides of the hospital bed. That's why we encourage visitors to come see us, sit, and stay awhile; it's a healthy experience for everyone.

Well, it's good that Mat-Su has it posted, so we don't have to guess:

      ICU

Visitors are limited to two immediate family members at a time and should be limited to 10 minutes with exceptions given in special circumstances by the nurse caring for the patient.

Second: the yellow socks in the foreground tell me that they are visiting a patient that is ambulatory, but is in danger of falling. (Those are the 'alert' socks nurses pay attention to when they see someone out and about in the hallways).
Third: WHERE TF is the picture of Toad??? Just showing the socks of someone does not mean it is a specific person!

  47. Honestly people, what the heck. I’m not a Palin fan but reality I’m a fan of. I have worked in ICUs of many types and levels in many places including all the hospitals in Seattle except Virginia Mason and worked other places such as UCLA’s transplant unit. Someone is sitting in a chair probably a geri-chair type rig and the visitors are on the bed, that happens all the time. Those socks with the tread on the bottom get twisted upside down all the time too. There are different types of ICUs and different rules everywhere. Some allow family anytime, some only a few minutes an hour. Research shows visitors are a good idea for the patient. The time limits are dependent on the acuity of the ICU (some ICUs have the acuity of other step-down units), which is dependent on the level of care and how critical the patient is. If the person is very ill, there is a lot to do and a bunch of people are difficult to manage. If the patient is in isolation then of course visiting is more limited and teaching is involved for putting on the right gear/hand washing and sitting on the bed is an issue, the same is true with a dysfunctional immune systems or reverse isolation. Even if there is a reason to limit visitors almost every hospital allows at least one. Laughing is a good idea and encouraged along with “silly girls.” Myself and another nurse use to do song and dance routines for critically ill patients singing silly stuff. We also said and did things to make both patients and visitors laugh. I haven’t read anywhere that he is on a vent, but he could be. People on ventilators need to get up in chairs and can even go for walks with portable equipment. Getting up in that chair was probably the most important treatment he got all day. Of course IV poles would be at the head of the chair. His injuries don’t require specialized services, chest tubes are routine everywhere and so are broken bones. Every level IV trauma center like Mat-Su has an “orthopod” on call to do the surgeries for people who show up in the ER. Now give me some hate.

Exactly, Bob! The type of treatment she described about framing the ribs with metal bars etc, that is NOT what a level IV traumacenter is prepared to do. Not even sure that Anchorage would be qualified for that. Seattle OTOH would be the logical choice.

She is digging deeper and deeper. I used to have a Hawaiian T-Shirt with the saying "Always tell the truth - there is less to remember!" (And, by implication, less to invent and correct!)

Thanks for posting Celia! A voice of reason and experience.

I have seen elderly family members treated for hip and pelvic fractures recently. They were up and in the chair with 24 hours of the surgery (with appropriate assistance and pain control of course.) This helps prevent blood clots, bedsores and other complications. They were allowed visitors and wore the grippy socks and so on.

Let me throw this in. If things go well for Todd and no other immediate surgeries are scheduled then even with the injuries described he will be discharged within a few days. He will go either to a skilled rehab/advanced care facility, or home with all the care and therapy done there.

I would be worried about the sanitation and hand washing and the diet in that house, but maybe they will hire more cleaning and cooking help.

Even Sarah will be able to handle her dear hubby's bedpans and spongebaths with a little training. ;-)

OK, here's your "still mysterious snowmobilers" Some drunks were partying with Todd or in the area. He either went to Cubby's for more beer, or for something Bristol or one of the grandkids wanted/needed.

He wrecked. Mysterious snowmobilers, either with him or coming upon the wreck, realized that he was injured badly and got him to Cubbys. By now totally sober - the sight of blood and broken bones will do that to you, they realized they could be subject to DUI tests for operating a machine while intoxicated, so they booked. Or, they could be asked questions about what led to the wreck if they were involved. e.g they were racing with him on a bet, chasing him or vice versa. They worried about the proven vindictive, vengeful nature of the Palins if they said the wrong thing, so they booked.

      Anon 4:42 again.

Today is Thursday, so if Todd was an average person in the 48 would probably be discharged either tomorrow or Monday at the latest unless he is still having breathing issues or other complications.

But- he's not covered by typical insurance because he has the gold plated sh*t we buy for him.

AND MatSu Regional is definitely Palin country and run by friends.

Also there may be a lack of options in the valley other than MatSu Regional's home care, and they are millionaires. So we will have to wait and see where he is next week.

Since Wat-Su Hospital only opened in 2006, all of Sarah(h)'s children could not have been born there!

Researching the excellent surgical and rehabilitative care offered by several Anchorage hospitals, it beggars belief that a man in Todd's condition would remain at a regional hospital.

Finally, if he's eligible for Native Care, why isn't he in the state-of-the-art, well-staffed, and well-trained Native Hospital in Anchorage?
Mat-Sue might have been his first trauma center, but he then was quickly, by highway or helicopter, sent to a first-class ICU with surgeons trained to address his serious injuries.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Anonymous3:43 PM

Mat-Su has 3 orthopedic surgeons on staff so it was the closest with full staff to treat his injuries.

I don't think that Todd uses the Native Hospital, none of them that qualify seem to take advantage of the few benefits they offer. Native Hospital patients often are on Medicaid that covers a variety of things that Native care doesn't.

I think Palins have decent private insurance for life as part of the separation agreement of Sarah having been Governor.

Then your ICU is not established like a real hospital's ICU, which is equipped for serious injuries, as Todd Palin experienced. No "ICU" I've experienced in our country allows the kind of things you describe, which leads me to believe that you don't have a full-fledged ICU.
Neither do you have the surgical staff to attend to Todd Palin's injuries and the after-care that he requires.

Going into conspiracy theory territory here, but if I were writing this novel, I'd have Sarah arranging something Todd wasn't supposed to survive. Busybody snow machiners got him help in time to save his life, and she's trying to find them. Bristol's pissed because there was promise of insurance payout - doubled since death caused by accident. My imagination, I'm sure.

It sounds like his injuries are really serious. I wonder who helped Sarah with the medical-ish description. At some point, the hospital staff will want him to be able to take deep breaths and that will be painful. I sure hope that Sarah is with him all day every day. The more time she spends away from the Lower 48, the better off we all are.

That FB post is absolutely terrifying. She sounds like the lady in "Misery".

Making fun and jokes? Sounds like the accident was brutal and Todd is badly injured and still in ICU, which means it's going to take much time to recover.

What kind of speed was he going? The machine must have tipped over on top of him. This could be a crash into a tree, but that would have caused a concussion possibly. At least he was wearing a helmet and obeyed the laws, something which Sarah doesn't believe in, seeing she is negligent with seat belts.

OMG She wants to talk to the mysterious witnesses so she can shut them down!!! She's terrified that pics and/or witness accounts could show up! There's probably a "postal money order" ready as a payoff!

Crazy that no one knows who called the ambulance and found Todd. Ambulance attendants need all that information and need the person who witnessed and attended the victim to give a statement to police. There's no way that the Palins didn't know the person.

Is it possible that a female friend was with Todd and called ambulance?

Yep, stupid $arah, I'll "have confidence in the care around me" since I and my loved ones will have access to it via the ACA or "Obamcare" to you.

It was to be some kind of "cabin weekend." They had talked about it with non-family. Why do that if the weekend was just going to be family? But a guy named Dan was telling Bristol that she hadn't gotten the memo and was wondering why she was in HI and going to miss the cabin weekend. It sure sounds like there was ore than one bystander around up there.

Sometimes Gryph, I just can't get on board with your snarky points. Most, yes but not this one.

I despise the Palins with the heat of of a red hot sun, but if those injuries are true, I can only hope for a speedy recovery for Todd Palin. I have no thoughts to wish him harm.

I think sometimes your hate clouds your judgment. As does mine sometimes, but this post was over the top for me.

I agree with everything you say!

I continue to be thankful that Sarah was such an effective advocate for health care reform, so that non millionaires can get the health care they need whenever something bad happens to them.

      Sarah knows all about healthcare.

Just my 2 cants abt ICU
This from someone in a rural area with Providence hospital.

I say sitting on bed giggling is no big deal. Todd sitting upright is harder to swallow given the description of injuries.

Unless they really want him up and moving. Moving is key word as he could sit up in bed. Maybe they were changing sheet

Providence has eICU which means they can keep you in your hometown and watch and monitor you using the internet. The ICU in Anchorage watches the computer inputs and the nurses and doctors there tell people here what to do.

This obviously is best for stable people.

They use a looks-regular-room. If no one is using it for ICU it's a regular room.

So I could see a visitor sitting on the bed I'd patient is in chair. Especially as incident was a week ago.

I vote. No "here" here on the photo.

  72. I continue to wonder whether Track beat up Toad who then staged a snow machine "accident" to cover up Track's repeated bad behavior?

To those saying there should be an Alaska State Trooper report, here's what one of the initial Alaska media reports said:

n Monday, the Mat-Su Borough sent out an email saying emergency responders were called to Cubby's Marketplace south of Talkeetna for a report of a snowmachine accident that took place north of there. The email said medics transported one patient to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The crash involved a single snowmachine.

However, borough spokesperson Patty Sullivan said she couldn't confirm the patient's identity due to federal privacy laws. When asked why the borough bothered to send out a special email about a snowmachine accident, Sullivan said it was because the local government had been getting numerous media requests for information.

So, if someone is sluething, that's the place to look. Here is the link to the Mat-Su Borough FD: http://www.matsugov.us/cmsfd

The type of lung injuries in an ICU would require visitors to be wearing masks. I can't believe they let in Willow and Piper without masks. If they had a cold or virus that is contagious, Todd would be in a world of hurt, not being able to cough for the pain, and the risk of infection?????

Is this the way they do things in AK?

I posted the link to the Mat-Su Borough Fire Department. If you scroll down to "Duty Schedules", that link shows who was on duty the evening of Sunday 3/13, the night of the accident:

24: Simmons/Holom (these two would have been on duty from 9:00 a.m. 3/13 to 9:00 a.m. on 3/14, so would have been on duty when the 3/13 8:00 p.m. call came in and was responded to. Might have responded to a VIP situation?)
AM E: Weniger (would have already been off duty at 6:00 p.m., so probably didn't respond)
PM E: Hutchings (would have been on duty and likely the emergency responder)
PM F: Hearn (would have been on duty and might have responded to assist)

I'm not sure what "E" and "F" mean, but possibly "Emergency" and "Fire." According to the spreadsheet that downloads when you click on the "Duty Officer Schedule," it says:

    AM (Saturday & Sunday only) = 0600-1800
    PM = 1800-0600
24 Hour Shifts begin and end at 9:00

If you click on "Rescue" to the right, it says:

Central MAT-SU Rescue responds to over 350 calls each year. This includes primarily motor vehicle accidents / crashes with a variety of other technical and off-road rescue incidents. This represents over ½ of the entire rescue call in the MAT-SU Borough.

Central Rescue consists of the following units:

Rescue 61 Heavy Rescue (also serves as the Borough-wide Hazmat response vehicle)
Rescue 65 Squad 51 (Service company and backup rescue unit)
Two Yamaha 660 4-Wheelers with trailer

I would think a public records request to Mat-Su Borough would result in the accident report. Gryphen?

Isn't she a smart one. Hey, Piper, I ate all those jellybeans you hid, why were they all brown?"
"Those weren't jellybeans, those were rabbit droppings"

What a pathetic post she cobbled together. Her husband sounds like every bone in his body is broken, and she was too busy endorsing Trump to even care, and then she posts a random photo of two Palins sitting on a hospital bed.
Newsflash, Boobala Bimbo! If someone's on a ventilator, they're in ICU with ONE FUCKING BED. How did two lardasses get in ICU and SIT on a random bed?
Don't worry, I won't tell your God, but you're a lying sack of scar tissue that won't shut up.
