If success in this election cycle were based on money alone, Bernie Sanders would kicking everybody's ass right now.

Courtesy of Politico:

Bernie Sanders campaign says it raised $40 million in February—and at least $4 million on Monday alone.

The Vermont Senator's fundraising continues to be driven by his online operation.

Sanders’ team kicked off the day by informing backers that the team had raised $36 million and set a goal of $40 million for day's end. By 7:45 pm, the site set up by the campaign to track donations showed that goal being met—and a new goal of $45 million in place. Sanders’ money comes largely from small donations, meaning contributors can, in most cases, give multiple times without hitting the $2,700 maximum.

The campaigns do not have to release their February numbers until March 20th, so we do not yet know just how far ahead of the other candidates Bernie is right now, But since Hillary only raised about 13 million in January it looks like Bernie is more than likely outpacing her right now.

However if you look at the overall numbers, Hillary has brought in almost double what Sanders has raised since this whole thing began.

Of course if we have learned anything it is that more money does NOT equal a stronger campaign or more attractive candidate.

We will refer to that from this day forward as the "Jeb! hypothesis."

Just remember how Jeb!'s campaign spent $5,000 on pizza and $15,000 on valet parking....

    1. @ Ted -- sounds like an episode title of The Big Bang Theory.

By the way, it's National Engineers Week: "Hug an engineer today! ; they won't like it, but do it anyway."

      Deliberately!

      Hug an engineer today!

I did on Sunday, and she did.

    3. Hi Ted - have you seen each TBBT episodes as many times as my husband and I have? Good show. Yesterday, at the store, we passed some salad dressing that had divided its liquid components into tiers. I said to my husband, "What does that remind you of?" Without hesitation, he said, "Big Bang," and added that he felt he had passed some sort of test. We laughed.

Good thing the GOP and especially Karl Rove are investing so much to get Bernie the nomination. They have spent millions upon millions in each state to lend him a hand.

    So yeah. Pure Bernie.

      Uncle Gryphen ~

I realize outbound links dilute your Page Rank; however, i weighed the ease of clicking on a link from a phone or a tablet against the fuck-me-in-the-ass pain of copying and right-clicking from a phone or a tablet.

The ease-of-use for my friends here at IM won out, so i am going to start hyperlinking in my posts as i am able. I'm pretty sure you can stand a tad bit of dilution since your 'almost defunct' blog (heehee) is so organically popular :)

Crap! I see by the page source that i forgot the tick marks in the href.

      ... fixed that now:

Perhaps, but note that the blog software inserts a "nofollow" into every one of them, so whatever happens to the score of the IM page, the link doesn't benefit the destination pages. For those who don't already know how, click Tools | Web Developer | Page Source or type Ctrl-U, depending on your browser, to see it.

On a side note, it looks like Cruz may take Alaska today. What a slap in the face to Palin if it happens.

Just that he is so close to Trump in the polling in Alaska is hilarious. People really don't give a shit about Sarah up there do they?

I don't think Bernie can win now, but he's done remarkably well when considering that the DNC Chair and the whole Democratic Party "machine" was against him from the start, and the fact that anyone with eyes could see that there had been a corporate media blackout on his candidacy up until a few months ago when they could no longer not cover his campaign without it being blatantly obvious.

Well, look at Kasich. Same thing. The media has their darlings, and Trump played them like a fiddle.
Bernie has done the country a service though...he's moved Hillary to the left, and he's made people stop and think.

The media has been 24/7 focused on Drumpf. The Hillary coverage I've seen squeezed in has mostly been negative, repeating GOP anti-Hillary talking points. Sanders coverage has been positive but focused only on his large crowds.

I don't understand the money element of campaigns as I can't donate as it isn't tax deductible.

    I vote, I would never spend a dime I can't write off.

Its nice to see Bernie stay on message. I'll be happy with his wisdom in office. Change is hard to accept for anyone at first. Maybe Hillary will be a great VP!

Hillary Clinton takes more donations from Big Pharma than any other candidate in either party.

Sanders has accepted zero dollars from the pharmaceutical industry. Perhaps in response to Sanders’ plan to reduce drug costs— which he announced right out of the gate— the former Secretary of State entered the primaries revealing her comparable plan to tackle the issue.

Hillary may be winning more delegate points, but Bernie is in the grassroots' driving seat, steering her campaign to the left where she would never have gone, even in promises.

5 Ways Bernie Sanders Is Leading the Fight Against Big Pharma’s Rip-Offs.

Yup...I'm on my way to go vote. But who should I vote for? The KKK guy with the tiny "hands?" The shouty, obese woman? Or Doc Brown from Back to the Future? I tried to keep it neutral. I hope I didn't hurt anyone's fee-fees.

Sanders has too much money and is already spending too much on tv ad buys in CA where the primary isn't until June. His are the only ads I've seen run in this market and they are basically a request for more donations. I'm already sick of the primaries.

The big winner is the media which is on the receiving end of ad $$$ and the temptation to cover the campaign as an entertaining horse race and generate more ad revenue. The public loses.

That was excellent. And the frustrating thing is that the Republican Party would never hold any power ever again if Democrats voted more than once every 4 years. We get what we fucking deserve - REPUBLICANS!

Bernie won over 85% of his home state. Meanwhile, only 44% of those in Cruz's state choose him.
