Man shoots himself while taking selfie with gun.

Courtesy of TPM:

A 43-year-old man has died after authorities say he accidentally shot himself in the face while taking selfies.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports the man and his girlfriend were photographing themselves with the weapon on Sunday at a residence when he shot himself.

Skagit County Sheriff's Office Patrol Chief Chad Clark says the woman reported that she and the man had taken photos with the gun several times that day and that the man had loaded and unloaded bullets multiple times.

Clark says a bullet apparently remained in the gun the final time he fired.

I don't know what is more pathetic, that this idiot died in this way, or that this is by no means the first time something like this has happened.

Just another day in the NRA's America.

"The final time he fired it." You have to pull the trigger for authenticity of a selfie?!?!

    In other news...

Trump kills GOP autopsy while they were taking selfie with a loaded gun at the GOP debate in Detroit.

Republican elders drew up a blueprint for a kinder, more inclusive Republican party. Trump is tearing it apart
    Thanks Obama!

Ironically, Trumps loss in November will be validation for the autopsy.

Two months ago in Mississippi the McLemore gun store owner and his son were killed by father/son Audy and Michael McCool over a $25 service charge. The investigation is still ongoing. Say what?

All I can say is I sincerely hope evolution is working its magic here.

  7. Just imagine the attrition rate if gun owners were required to show their guns, in his fashion, in their official ID pictures. You don't think we can make that a requirement, do you? Maybe just wishful thinking.

  9. This is crass, I know, but maybe all the gun-lovin' idiots will shoot themselves.

The heart-breaking fact is that children and innocents are often shot instead.

Here's a case where a "good guy with a gun" got shot and killed while trying to protect himself.

Ya think?! (of the day) "Anger issues"? I thought he was standing his ground.

Sister: Teen who shot family before school has 'anger issues' http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/crime/2016/03/02/family-teen-accused-east-nashville-shooting-speaks/81208834/

Too many shootings making it difficult to remember which one this refers to? This was the "An argument over getting out of bed for school Tuesday morning led a teenage boy to open fire on four family members, including his grandmother and two young children, in an East Nashville home, Metro police said." shooting fro a few days ago.

I feel so sad about these stories and the predictable, callous "Darwin award" comments. Yes, gun safety 101 is to assume every gun is loaded and handle it accordingly. Still, any one of us could die or be seriously maimed because of a moment of carelessness, lapse of awareness, concentration, loss of temper, even balance. No one "deserves" to die or is too stupid to live.

      "No one "deserves" to die...."

I totally disagree. While most people who do stupid stuff like this don't DESERVE to die, there are so MANY who DO deserve it.

Do you really think Hitler didn't deserve to die? (Too bad we didn't capture him so we could execute him!) How about Stalin? Pol Pot? Idi Amin. Thousands of people like those existed. THEY deserved to die.

Had you said people GENERALLY don't deserve it, I wouldn't have commented. But to say NO ONE deserves it? I totally disagree.

7:51 -- No, I could not die or be maimed because of a "moment of carelessness or lapse of awareness, etc.", because I do not own a gun and will not permit one in my home, let alone take selfies with one. Dear universe.

There may not be anyone deserving of death from stupidity, but there are certainly people undeserving of death because they use some common sense.

There are many ways in which one can die or be maimed because of a moment of carelessness, lapse of awareness or judgement that don't involve a gun. Stepping off the curb without looking, reaching out too far from a ladder, taking your eyes off the road to change the radio station, etc. Any one of which could be avoided by using some common sense. But we're human and we don't always. No one deserves to die for being careless, no matter how you feel about guns and gunowners.

Don't pity one of Skagit's finest for his "Accident". Be glad for him, he died doing what he loved best.... living.

There's that "Accident" word. Apparently he forgot there was a bullet still in the chamber..... gee, ya think?????
I do feel badly for his family, friends, any and all kids he's had, but someone should have taught him that guns are for killing and cameras are for taking pictures. It's not rocket science or the birds and bees.
