Online petition to allow guns at the Republican convention exceeds 35,000. Donald Trump wants to study the fine print.

Courtesy of USA Today:

Donald Trump says he wants to study a petition that calls for allowing the open carry of guns at the Republican convention this July in Cleveland.

While proclaiming himself "a very, very strong person for Second Amendment," the Republican front-runner told ABC's This Week that "I have not seen the petition. I want to see what it says. I want to read the fine print."

Posted on the website change.org, the petition of unknown origin notes that "though Ohio is an open carry state, which allows for the open carry of guns, the hosting venue -- the Quicken Loans Arena -- strictly forbids the carry of firearms on their premises." That "is a direct affront to the Second Amendment and puts all attendees at risk," said the petition that has more than 35,000 signers as of Sunday.

The other Republican presidential candidates -- Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich -- have not commented on the open carry petition.

Yeah I'll bet Donald Trump wants to study the fine print.

Could you imagine being in that building along with a crowd of armed Trump supporters at the very moment that they find out he DIDN'T get the nomination?

Not that I think there will actually be a better response from the other armed Republicans if he DOES get the nomination.

Let's face it, chances are SOMEBODY is getting shot.

Not that I necessarily condone violence but perhaps its past time for these assholes to have to dodge bullets like all of the young men and women that they helped send to the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan based on the lies told by the President they voted into office.

Call it karma.

Why would he need to 'study' the fine print? Is he that dense, that slow? Just reading the fine print should do for anyone with normal intelligence..

Who said the petition had any fine print?

He's hoping the fine print says that he and anyone on stage with him can wear bullet proof clothing, be behind a barricade, and carry AK-47s. His little dancing girls (whatever happened to them?) will be shown via video instead of prancing around live, just in case ISIS plans to kidnap them.

I was thinking of signing the petition, just to get the ball rolling, but I'm not a gun person, so I decided to let fate take its course. I don't really understand peoples' need to carry guns everywhere

Republican freedom-loving patriots scare easily -think of Dick Cheney scurrying off, in a frenzied panic, to a secure location on 9/11. Don't laugh!

Oh please. You assume Cheney was surprised by the attack. He never scurried anywhere, except after he shot his 'friend' in the face that time.

The Trump campaign is encouraging and glorifying the ugliest of American behavior: people who only care about themselves and threaten or commit violence against anyone who gets in their way.

This is the behavior that makes the news when someone gets seriously hurt or killed on Black Friday when some merciless shopper NEEDS to get that cheap flat screen television. We hear about road rage incidents or people being shot for playing music too loudly. Parents assault each other over innocent mistakes made at Little League games.

Not even a free community Easter egg hunt put on by Pez is immune. This story is simply disgusting.

Why is Trump depriving the RNC of their 2nd amendment rights?

Who said it was his call anyway?

Personally, I think Trump is a RINO and Liberal and in cahoots with Hillary to destroy the Republicans. Sara is the same as demonstrated by her "large" donations to the RNC effort. She certainly loved the democrats as governor. She let them have their way to manipulate Alaska to achieve their communist goals.

Let them. I never in my entire LIFE thought I would say , let alone actually feel, such a thing, but--

I'm hoping someone does get shot. (Not killed though, I'm not that far gone.)

After all, anyone who is there knows beforehand what they'd be letting themselves in for, and it's apparently all just peachy keen with them.

Now Trump doesn't have to wait to be on 5th Avenue, he can shoot someone at the convention center and still get the nomination.

    I signed it.
I want to see their convictions in action. Why would they even choose a venue that does not allow guns?
With a volunteer military, they choose to join knowing we have a hot shooting war. It's the innocents on the street that get killed we should feel for.

Saw this comment by Alfred Placares in another article. LOL

"If the "Thrilla in Cleveland" knocks out "Ted Cruzin for a Brusin," then
"Donnie 2 Times" will be facing either "Da Bern" or "Killary" for the
championship. The veteran "Da Bern" is a "Rocky-like southpaw"
who relies on a series of left hook combinations. He is the darling of cheap
seats but ringsiders will be cheering for the favorite "Killary,"a "switch fighter"
who can come our swinging from the left or the right. Donnie can fill the
arena with thousands of hooligan fans but has shown us no boxing skills.
He has managed to outlast a dozen or so "little" or "low energy" loser opponents
simply by jawing them into submission a la Muhammad Ali but without
the punch. The Ref will have to watch out for low blows from both fighters.
"Killary" can take and give a punch South of the Border. Enquiring minds will
have to wait and see what "Donnie" has hidden under those orange trunks."

There's real up-side potential for the gun righters with this. First off, this isn't a run of the mill general population crowd. Nope. These folks are all delegates to RNC national convention....they are all certified law abiding, common sense, real american patriots. Just think of the time, energy, expense, and personal commitment each delegate has expended in being named as a delegate. So, ipso calipso the de facto reality is that there is no chance of anything going wrong. And, when all these common sense, rill 'mericans pull off an armed conventions with no unpleasant accidents or incidents, they will have made a strong case for doing away with all gun laws all together. In short, they have nothing to fear or worry about o n the downside and everything to gain on the upside.

The absence of firearms at the Republican Convention (as well as CPAC) shows the shallowness of conservative Republicans' convictions regarding '2nd amendment rights'.

They talk big -- but when it comes down to REAL WORLD situations THAT CONCERN THEM -- all their rhetoric falls apart.

"You need guns in the hallways of your SCHOOLS for the safety of your children - but not WE don't want them at OUR convention because of the obvious, inherent danger to US."

"But on Monday, the Secret Service said that only law enforcement personnel will be allowed to carry firearms at the event.

"Title 18 United States Code Sections 3056 and 1752 provides the Secret Service authority to preclude firearms from entering sites visited by our protectees, including those located in open-carry states," Secret Service spokesman Robert K. Hoback said in a statement. "Only authorized law enforcement personnel working in conjunction with the Secret Service for a particular event may carry a firearm inside of the protected site."

Interesting article to read about what a disaster a contested RNC would be. Even before it got started.

It could be 1968 all over again baby (and that's not a good thing).

Darn, I wanted them to eliminate themselves. Now the Donald and others can leave their Depends at home.

The Secret Service should be banned for not following the republican version of the 2nd amendment :)

I wish they would have kept quite for awhile longer, so we could watch the GOP squirm with their excuses.

    ------------------------

Secret Service bails Republicans out of their convention open carry dilemma

..... Luckily for them, the Republican candidates may be bailed out by the Secret Service:

Secret Service spokesman Robert Hoback said in a statement that “only authorized law enforcement personnel” working with the agency will be allowed to carry firearms inside protected areas.

“Individuals determined to be carrying firearms will not be allowed past a predetermined outer perimeter checkpoint, regardless of whether they possess a ticket to the event,” Hoback said.

  33. Turning the Republican National Convention into the Swat Valley? Why the heck not? These weasels insist that we live cheek by jowl with people who trust nobody and clutch their guns to themselves, sweeping their surroundings with a baleful sniper's glare, and INSIST that we trust them. It's about time that the Republicans find out exactly what that is like.
