Organization trains Christian teachers to sneak their religion into public schools.

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

Finn Laursen believes millions of American children are no longer learning right from wrong, in part because public schools have been stripped of religion. To repair that frayed moral fabric, Laursen and his colleagues want to bring the light of Jesus Christ into public school classrooms across the country — and they are training teachers to do just that.

The Christian Educators Association International, an organization that sees the nation’s public schools as “the largest single mission field in America,” aims to show Christian teachers how to live their faith — and evangelize in public schools — without running afoul of the Constitution’s prohibition on the government establishing or promoting any particular religion.

“We’re not talking about proselytizing. That would be illegal,” said Laursen, the group’s executive director. “But we’re saying you can do a lot of things. . . . It’s a mission field that you fish in differently.”

“They appear to be encouraging teachers to cross the line,” said Daniel Mach of the American Civil Liberties Union, which fought the Christian Educators Association in a 2009 court case over Florida teachers’ religious expression at school. “Decisions about the religious upbringing of children should be left in the hands of parents and families, not public school officials.”

Others say that there would be outrage if teachers of any other faith were being encouraged to express their beliefs in the classroom, legally or otherwise — particularly at a time when anti- Muslim sentiment is on the rise and some parents have complained that academic lessons about Islam can amount to religious indoctrination.

And that's really the crux of the issue.

These Christian educators believe that THEY are being discriminated against for their religious beliefs, when if there were another religious group using the same devious tactics they would be justifiably horrified.

THAT is why we have the separation of church and state, to protect children from proselytizing from ANY religious group or denomination.

You would think that educators might actually know that.

That's lesson #1 from the Xtians:
    lie.

    Deceive
    Be mendacious
    Delude
    Misinform

...because, Jesus said, "It's OK to lie - when the end justifies the means."

Elizabeth, that was a snark. He was being facetious! But it does seem to be an attitude a LOT of christians carry around - especially the fundies.

  2. Getting children and religion together should in my estimation be highly against the law. So many never can get away from the indoctrination and allowed to make their own life decisions. I too was one of those, but am now on the outside looking into that belief and find myself astonished at the gullibility of my society. All i have ever wanted was proof, there is non other then a pile of words.

Dominionist. They believe THEIR god's law trumps the law of the land. Onward Xhristian soldiers in the crusade. This is why it is SO important to draw a firm line between church and state. It is a slippery slope into theocracy.

  4. As an public educator and a Christian, I totally reject this unconstitutional attempt to impose/ establish religion in our public schools. There is no Constitutional way these folks can do what they say they want to. They are in violation of what our Founding Fathers had in mind.

Hhhmmm. Seems to me that since they have obviously failed to instill the desired beliefs and actions in their children at home or in their own church - where it SHOULD BE TAUGHT - they will only fail in the public schools.

Perhaps if they would back the teachers when they attempt to control their little brats, instead of screaming about them taking over the parents' job, more of the morality of society would get through their children's thick skulls!

"Ecclesiastes, in the 1611 translation, is one of the glories of English literature (I'm told it's pretty good in the original Hebrew, too). The whole King James Bible is littered with literary allusions, almost as many as Shakespeare (to quote that distinguished authority Anon, the trouble with Hamlet is it's so full of clichées). In The God Delusion I have a section called "Religious education as a part of literary culture" in which I list 129 biblical phrases which any cultivated English speaker will instantly recognise and many use without knowing their provenance: the salt of the earth; go the extra mile; I wash my hands of it; filthy lucre; through a glass darkly; wolf in sheep's clothing; hide your light under a bushel; no peace for the wicked; how are the mighty fallen."
    Richard Dawkins.

Christians In Name Only are the reason why excerpts from the King James Version are not taught as literature in public high schools.

The fact that there is not a King James Version in every public school library is as astonishing as a library not having a Dictionary.

Those x-tian freaks are everywhere. Look at the movement against teaching meditation or yoga in schools. Now even some are coming out against those coloring books for adults, as that is the work of the devil, trying to impose Buddhism or Hinduism (because many of those coloring topics look like a Mandala).
The freaks are coming out in force. They were first bery subtle, but have been getting emboldened during gwb (sic) reign.

I saw one of trumps supporter make an antisemitic remark. Trump will disavow this because his kids are married to Jews. Ask sarah about her whisper campaign against someone in Wasilla regarding being Jewish.

OT- fact, as The Weather Channel noted, “The five largest monthly global warm anomalies in NASA’s database have all occurred within the past five months”:

We do know that. Funny thing is that if ANYTHING about religion comes up in my English class, the teenagers are quick to jump on it and claim that it can't be taught in school. The thing is the stories of the Bible can be taught as literature (fiction LOL), but they cannot be taught with the intent of promoting religion.

If you've raised your children to be intelligent, critical thinkers then they will not be in danger of this xtian brainwashing.

I would tell my children that if confronted with the xtian fairy-tale while in their classroom that they should politely confront the teacher and tell her that they are there to learn and not be brainwashed by fairy tales, and if the lies continue that they would like to leave the classroom immediately.

They tried it in our public school, and found their material AND their livelihood in the dumpster. I've said it before on here, a mimeographed addendum to Evolution was handed to all students, explaining Creationism. All hell broke loose, parents wrote letters and protested the administration and Principle.
Now imagine, if you will, it had been polytheism or muslim teachings, the cino's would be up in arms because "We're a xtian nation" (wrong). You want your kids to learn religion, send them to religious schools or homeschool them. My tax dollars shouldn't pay for YOUR beliefs to be spoonfed to my children or any child.
